Derby : Enigma Of Extremes :
This Saturday is one of the strangest games we will face…….it is full of extremes :
(1) Of the 18 players on the pitch and the bench …… 3 are over 34 years old (one 39) …… and a full 9 players 20 years old and below. I have never seen anything like it. A mixture of “grand dads” and “toddlers” in football terms so to speak.
By contrast , I don’t think we will start with more than a couple of kids - yet we keep harping that we have too many youngsters.
(2) They are almost the least scoring side in our division with 18 goals (Peterborough less) ….and apart from the three top teams they have the meanest defence.
(3) When we speak of luck we always have to acknowledge our good luck . If not for Derby and Reading losing points we would be in the relegation zone. We also have to acknowledge that under Morison - apart from the one game- we have merely be eking wins and draws ….not really convincing.
(4) I believe that we will win this game ……damn it we surely should !! The bookies , understandably, have us as strong favorites. Let us close the first half of the season with an emphatic win over a side I do not particularly like since their “snow gate” episode.
(5) However , a word of caution. Derby have been in administration for almost three months. Their ex owner has been subsidizing the administration period so far ….but rumor has it that he may pull the plug because prospective buyers have been pulling out. If this happens -
Derby will go into liquidation and their results totally expunged. I take no pleasure in their present misery. Today it is them , but another day it could be another.
