Steve Morison: “I have no conversations and their is no mone

Cardiff City boss Steve Morison insists he's happy to work with what he's got over the coming weeks and says conversations over January have still not yet begun.

However, he admits that decisions over Cardiff's out-of-contract stars are likely to have some influence what sort of business, if any, can be done when the window re-opens.

Joe Ralls, Sean Morrison, Aden Flint, Alex Smithies and Will Vaulks are just some of the big names approaching the end of their current deals, and their futures remain uncertain heading into the new year.

It seems unlikely that all those names will be staying in the Welsh capital given the prohibitive finances involved, but supporters will no doubt be keen to see some movement soon.

However, Morison says he's not yet held any conversations with the club's hierarchy, and suggested that tying down players to new deals wasn't currently the biggest priority heading into a busy Christmas schedule.

STEVE MORISON:

“I am happy to work with what I have , I knew when I took the job their was no money available and I knew what I had to do, keep this club up and bring through our youth.”

"I haven’t had any conversations with the board about contracts. It’s not top of the agenda at the moment because we need to concentrate on the games.

"I presume it will happen over the next few weeks because we are on Saturday to Saturday games, whereas it has been manic before that. It is like we’ve gone from 100mph to really, really slow. It becomes a long week.

"I’m sure we will have those conversations."

It remains to be seen what sort of business Cardiff will be able to do when the window re-opens, but Morison admits any activity is likely to be defined by the decisions made on new contracts, presumably due to the potential for freeing up much-needed funds.

"It’ll be exactly the same conversation as the contracts, because that will dictate what will happen over that period," Morison added.

"From my point of view in terms of myself and you guys, until I’ve had conversations with the players that’s going to be my answer."

After the trip to St Andrew's, Cardiff are at home to Derby County, before playing three members of the current top seven over the festive period.

It's a time of the year that will likely push the capabilities and depth of Morison's squad to the limit, but he insists he's happy with what he's got, although he did hint that he may dip into the club's academy once again for reinforcements if needed.

"We’ve got what we’ve got," he said.

"We’ve got a decent squad, and we’ve got competition for places. Especially in the front line. Whoever we’ve put in over the last few weeks, they’ve all performed to a certain level.

"Even if I wasn’t happy with the numbers, there’s nothing I can do about it. We’ll make the best of what we’ve got and you might even see some more new faces over the Christmas period, because we might need to use some more."
