With the news of the 16 and 18th December gig's being cancelled how long before we are playing behind closed doors again?

I think the end of January.

I think not. Early indications are that Omnicron is nowhere near as dangerous as originally thought. It seems the more mutations that occur, the less lethal it becomes, even if if spreads more easily. My son is in the medical profession and has said this for weeks. I also work with someone who’s hubby is doing research on T cells at Cardiff uni.
It’s probably not the news that the bbc will be reporting as a matter of urgency (it’s 3rd or 4th topic online) but WHO are also saying that early signs are that vaccines WILL be just as effective as before.
Boris just needs official confirmation of all this to avoid Captain Hindsight’s accusations flying his way I reckon.

This is correct regards the omicron variant, reports coming from south Africa are clearly showing that! It is more transmissible maybe, but nowhere near as dangerous, with no deaths or hospitalizations reported.

I did say last year, that all droplet type viruses always mutate to try and survive, but they always get weaker, never stronger, until they become like a cold/flu.
These can still obviously affect the old and infirm,as flu has for time, but should pose little threat to healthy individuals, obviously underlying serious conditions add to the mix.

Hope you are well 62r?
I cant see us playing behind closed doors either tbh, especially as most recent reports are suggesting this variant is nowhere near as dangerous.but with dripford in charge, you cant rule it out altogether!!

I'd like to think not too but we live in Wales with Drakeford making the rules and he will want to be different

With the plug being pulled on this and the Welsh Health Sec saying yesterday that will peak end of Jan I think its inevitable we'll be behind closed doors or partial crowds within weeks.

Not saying I agree with it or that its right and I hope I'm wrong but I just think this will set the precedent for Drakeford and his mob to do it

Agree with all of that.

The reason why they are being so cautious is that there are still 6 million people in the UK who are un-vaccinated. Until they can work out the impact of the new variant on those 6 million they have to plan worst case scenario for the NHS which has to be the right approach.

Over the next couple of weeks things may become clearer and they may have to screw down some of the restrictions, e.g. no entry into pubs, concerts, etc., without an up to date Lateral Flow of Vaccine Pass, etc.

The problem with viruses like this is that their progress is not linear. So whilst this variant may be less serious, the next one may be more virulent hence the importance of mass vaccination to try and artificially reduce the effects of the infection and transmission.

You may be aware(or not) that I cannot have the jabs, so have been getting used to lateral flow tests as they are becoming my every day norm, the big issue is trying to stem people traveling from other countries, as around 45% of the world are still unvaccinated at present, so the spread will be hard to stem for some time, yes it seems this one is more transmissible, but for me the important fact is, it's not at present causing people to require hospital treatment, which should help the strain on nhs?

From the Principality Stadium...

"In light of the evolving public health situation in Wales, we have taken the proactive but difficult decision to postpone the shows to next year on June 17th and 18th"

No statement on refunds or validity of current tickets

A night out in our wonderful capital city in July is surely a far more appealing one than a cold December one?! :thumbright:

Yes agreed. Just making sure the NHS can cope and not have to move to crisis management again is their top priority now so LFTs and Passes will be increasingly used.

I use LFTs on a regular basis myself as I have to visit a lot of different sites and gives those I'm working with some added assurance I'm not bringing the dreaded virus with me (not 100% admittedly) despite having had the booster. All pretty straightforward and quick.
