“ Are Cardiff City??? “

Mon Dec 06, 2021 8:09 am

These Cardiff players are surely too good to be relegated into League One, aren't they? ?

But as things stand the Bluebirds hover just one place above the bottom three and league tables do not lie.

Luckily there are a number of worse teams on paper than Cardiff in the division, including some above them at the moment, and the Bluebirds will win games to see their points tally rise.

Thankfully Derby are virtually relegated and Reading losing 6pts has brought them in it.

With small clubs like Peterborough , Barnsley and Blackpool always going to be down their fighting to stay up and Hull not looking that good has meant Cardiff have a great fighting chance of staying up and should do.

But the form at Cardiff City Stadium this season, normally such a strong fortress with the passionate fans behind the team, is worrying..

Eight defeats in 11 home games, yet only four losses on the road.

It's easy to see how Cardiff can turn around their current travails. Derby, in the final game before Xmas, is the perfect time to start making that happen at the CCS.

Cardiff have had lack of imbuing the team the last two seasons and it’s showing badly this season, with way to many players being put in and some rushed in to the first break squad when to me some are not good enough for the Chamoand the league table never lies.

Next season City need to keep hold of players like Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies and surround them with quality Championship players .

Kieffer Moore must also be kept.

Yes City need another clear out and this time a big one, but they will need to bring in a lot of quality as they won’t be able to rely on all the players from the U23’s,” the jump is way to big for many of them “ as manager Steve Morison has stated on a number of occasions.

If we had stayed with Mick McCarthy for me it would of been def League 1 next season, The best decision for years is appointing Steve Morison as we have no funds this season and he knows the squad etc inside out and plays football :bluebird: :bluebird:

My Verdict: YES We will stay stay up this season , but we will be battling down there right through the next months and next summer we will need to invest :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I recently said I think we will be fine but only just.
Derby need a miracle and miracles are rare, there are 5 or 6 other teams who are roughly the same standard or worse than us.
The players are genuinely trying at the moment especially the kids which is a brilliant sign.
Come on City win a few more football matches.

I don’t think we’ll finish the season any lower than 17th. We went on our worst run EVER in history and still didn’t drop into the bottom 3. That shows our skill and quality is easily enough to keep us safe in the division with a semi decent manager and mediocre form.
10pts from 21 so far from Morison and 5/7 of those games were against top half teams.
Players are fighting now and looking confident. Just need to grab some results against the bottom half teams and we’ll be climbing up the table in no time :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

No team is immune from relegation.
City on paper should stay up but have to garner 50 points at least.
Some astute loan signings in January are probably needed to tighten up the terrible defensive record (1 clean sheet) inject some pace and forward drive into central midfield and someone to replace Collins.

Wales online as usual today do this

Skipper Sean Morrison reckoned they could be promoted, particularly with Kieffer Moore in the ranks.

Instead Cardiff find themselves in a relegation battle with nearly half the season gone after a summer of inactivity in the transfer market, a poor start which led to McCarthy's sacking and despite a slight upturn under new man Steve Morison.

But are they really in danger of heading into League One? Are these players not to good for that?

Surely there are at least three other teams who are worse than Cardiff City?

Going by the standings - the most accurate gauge - the Bluebirds are in a right old dogfight.

We take a look at those sides down near the bottom to assess what's in store in 2022.

24th - Derby County, 1 pt

A mess on and off the field, the Rams are doomed to relegation due to their 21-point deduction for financial irregularities.

Wayne Rooney's men have just one point to their name after 21 games of the season have elapsed, and with further economic strife on the horizon and the threat of liquidation reportedly hanging over their heads, key players like Wales international Tom Lawrence could be cashed in on next month.

One relegation spot has already been inked in.

23rd - Barnsley, 13pts

The Tykes shocked most people last season by making it to the play-offs, where they eventually went down to Swansea City in the semi-finals.

Valérien Ismaël moved on to West Brom and the bubble has burst, with the Oakwell outfit looking destined for League One at their current projection.

They are eight points behind Cardiff, who are one place above the three relegation spots.

Barnsley are right in it. It ain't looking good.

22nd - Peterborough, 16pts

The promoted men from London Road were tipped to struggle, and with their form guide showing four defeats in the last five, you can see why they are down there.

In fact, it's only two points from their last seven games for Posh who have a tricky Christmas and new year fixture list on the horizon.

With 40 goals shipped and only 17 goals in the plus column, everything points one way.

21st - Cardiff City, 21pts

It's a sorry state of affairs for the Bluebirds, languishing at the wrong end of the table. Defeat to Sheffield United last time out was no embarrassment, such are the Blades' resources, but with Birmingham and Derby next up, Morison will be hoping to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

It's Coventry City, Bournemouth and West Brom shortly afterwards.

It's imperative points are picked up soon - this squad is way too good to be where it is right now.

Bizarrely, it is the Bluebirds' home form that is the problem.

Cardiff City Stadium is normally such a fortress. Yet this season they have lost eight out of 11 home games, compared to only four losses on the road.

It's easy to see how Cardiff can turn around their current travails. They just have to start doing it.

20th -Reading, 21pts

The Royals, like the Rams, also saw a points deduction, with six taken from their total to leave them hovering above the relegation zone.

A five-point advantage over the Posh isn't exactly a big buffer, and the next six fixtures could well define their status.

West Brom are up first, followed by Luton, with Peterborough, Fulham and Derby completing their festive schedule. But they have goals in them - they've scored more than any other team in the bottom half, bar Luton in 12th.

19th - Hull City, 22pts

Another of the promoted sides, the Tigers are in good nick. Four wins and a draw in their last five matches put them alongside Blackburn Rovers in the form table.

If Grant McCann can keep them up after picking up just two wins in their first 16 games, he'll have performed wonders.

Three of their next five matches are against teams in the bottom half and with such congestion in the lower echelons of the table, a couple of wins could propel them even further out of the trouble.

18th - Preston, 25pts

The Lilywhites parted company with manager Frankie McAvoy this week with ex-Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe the new man at the helm.

Cardiff picked up a valuable away win at Deepdale last month, which prompted a revival of sorts with a Preston win over Middlesbrough and a draw with Fulham recorded after.

A new-manager bounce could help Preston get away from trouble but a tricky schedule awaits - after Barnsley on Saturday they face Millwall, Sheffield United, West Brom and Stoke City in quick succession.

16th, 17th - Bristol City, Birmingham City, 26pts

The Robins and Blues are a full 10 points above the drop zone at present.

Is that margin enough to genuinely state they are not in a relegation fight?

Keen observers of the Championship will know that things can change in the blink of an eye, especially in the depths of despair come the business end of the season.

It is such sides that Cardiff will hope to reel in over the next few weeks in order to scramble themselves away from danger.

The relegation verdict

In conclusion, what it comes down to is how you see your glass - half empty or half full?

Cardiff are in 21st position, just five points above the drop to League One with nearly half the campaign gone.

Yet the top half of the standings are just seven points away, with Luton occupying 12th spot.

A few wins in this division and things are quickly turned on their head.

Morison must get his own house in order before looking at the weaknesses of others, although obviously that will figure into his game-by-game preparations.

Get Moore fit and firing again, sorting out the leaky defence - only Peterborough have conceded more than the Bluebirds this term - and having a more vibrant midfield should be seen as his priorities.

Although that is easier said than done when staring down the barrel of a relegation dogfight.

Cardiff have more than enough to comfortably get out of this mess. The players just have to start doing it.
