" Strangest goal you've ever seen live? "

Bizarre opening goal in the Manchester United v Arsenal game tonight scored by Emile Smith Rowe of Arsenal.

Arsenal corner comes in and is cleared.

As it's cleared, Fred stands on David De Gea's foot - his own goalkeeper. De Gea stays on the ground in the center of the goal and Smith Rowe puts the ball into the net from the edge of the box.

The referee Martin Atkinson raised his whistle towards his lips just before Smith Rowe hit the ball but then removed the whistle without sounding it. He then sounded his whistle after the ball had gone in the net, signalling that he was stopping play due to De Gea's injury.

Andre Marriner on VAR informed Atkinson to award the goal just after De Gea had finished receiving treatment. Video evidence showed there was no Arsenal player impeding De Gea, so the goal had to be given - although undoubtedly one of the strangest goals I've seen scored. All the pundits on Amazon Prime - Mark Clattenburg, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Patrice Evra and Ally McCoist agreed it was the correct decision to allow the goal to stand.

Manchester United went on to win the game 3-2 with Bruno Fernandes equalising just before half time. Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, either side of Martin Odegaard scoring for Arsenal, gave the hosts the three points.

What are the strangest goals scored you have ever seen live in a stadium?

The keeper was a complete fanny who flopped to the ground like a 2 Yr old in a super market who can't have sweets. He only stood on the end of his foot for god sake. I'm glad arsenal got the goal why shouldn't they. Last night summed up todays pussy footballer when you get players rolling about for feck all

This. I saw Social Media claiming it was strange. The way I saw it was he was looking for the free kick, thinking it was an Arsenal player who touched him. Fanny. I don't even think Smith Rowe saw he was down. Great volley. Glad it was given.

More of this needed to stop players going down to stop the game.

Glad goal stood. Stopping play for "injuries" really needs to stop unless it's a head injury. The two year old looking sweets is a great analogy for the mindset of some players.
No time for rugby but did see the quote that football is a game played by players pretending they are injured whilst rugby is played by players pretending they aren't.
Sadly have to agree.
