STEVE MORISON:

What was the U23s like when you came in?

STEVE MORISON:

"It was not right. There was loads of stuff around that, at was a mess over all."

Three wins in four, has Vincent Tan been in touch yet?

"Not other than general conversations, well done good luck etc. Nothing outside the norm, just basic."
"I dont hardly hear from him, i have been left to do my job.'

Told you to shoot more?

"No!"

Are you happy with the current home form?

"Whether we win home or away, no one cares as long as we win. We want to win at home as it’s nicer to win in front of the Cardiff fans, cheering you off the pitch.

"We set out to win every game of football. The fans are great. You look at the Luton game. Some support travelling all that way.

"It’s phenomenal. Hopefully we can get the fans getting behind us and sucking the ball into the net as often as possible."

Any clarity on loan players?

"In terms of clarity, if we want to call them back, we’ll call them back. It’s only the start of December.”

"There’s a lot to happen between now and then. There’s decisions to be made, of course there is. We’re fully focused on the group I’ve got."

STEVE MORISON:

Back to pressers in-person, is that your idea?

The presser is underway. Here's the thoughts of Steve Morison - starting with having press conference back in person...

"Yeah. We’ve tried to make changes. I know Covid’s been an issue.

"But there’s not many of you and only one of me so it’s nice to get back in the room and make it a little more personal."

STEVE MORISON:

Does it make you feel more like a manager?

"Nah. We need a little more people in here! The amount of meetings make you feel like a manager.

"You have more meetings than anything else. It’s been quite nice this week because we’ve not had three press conferences in seven days. It’s been nice."

STEVE MORISON:

Pleased with the control and character on the weekend?

"It was excellent. I’m not one to overly look into details of the other teams. You can’t get too caught up in those kind of things. I thought the boys were excellent.

"Limited then to very little. The wind in the second half, the ball was barely reaching the halfway line! It was something we had to deal with and it was tough. I thought the lads managed it excellently.

"We started the second half really well. They had a good spell and we changed a couple of attacking players and I thought we saw the game out pretty comfortably, and we had a couple of chances at the death that we should have done more with.

"A great result. The coach broke down as well so it was much better that we won the game."

What are you expecting from Sheffield United?

"Everything’s based on what they do and how we can combat that. Excellent team. Shouldn’t be where they are in the league.

"Fantastic players. Fantastic talents. New manager. They got a good result last week.

"It’s going to be a tough, tough test, but we’re looking forward to it."

What was the U23s like when you came in?

STEVE MORISON:

"It was not right. There was loads of stuff around that, at was a mess over all."

"It's not a hoarding ground, where we can have a load of players. It needs to be somewhere where it’s a fine tuning department."

"They have years of grounding and work to get them to where they need to be to get to 23s level. When they’re there it’s about the fine tuning and hiding their weaknesses to get them ready for the first team."

"I spent months trying to sort everything out and getting the players to believe and play as a team."

Any news on January incomings?

"It’s not a conversation we’re overly worried about right now because we think we’ve got enough good people in the building when everyone’s at it."

"We are not looking to add, we might bring a few loan players back, their is no money to bring new players in."

Cardiff City manager Steve Morison:

"I thought we were excellent against Luton, I thought we dominated in all areas, with and without the ball.”

“When you need to lift things and get the important results, you need to look to experience, experience players are needed to get us out of the trouble we are in.”

"Conditions were terrible, it was really tough, but we fought for each other and the fans and it was a well deserved victory.

"It's only the media who want to focus on the stat about the first half goals, I couldn't care less when we score as long as we win games of football.

"We have won three in four and we look for the positives and how we can get better going forward."

“Let’s all be positive and believe, this club will stay up as long as we all stick together.”

Re: BREAKING STEVE MORISON:

SHEFFIELD STAR:

On paper, Cardiff is a winnable game for United.

Brewster, given his links to Swansea, will be desperate to get one over on the Bluebirds. Likewise, the home fans will no doubt be ready with some treatment for both he and Conor.

SHEFFIELD STAR.

Thursday 2nd December 2021

Sheffield United striker Rhian Brewster has handed the club a boost ahead of Cardiff this weekend, confirming that he should indeed be fit to play.

Brewster scored his first league goal at Bramall Lane in the 2-0 win over Bristol City at the weekend. Overall, it was a good performance from the young striker. However, he left the field holding his hamstring in what looked like a worrying sign for the forward.

But speaking to the press today ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wales, Brewster has confirmed that things are looking good on the injury front.

“Yeah it’s okay, just trying to work my back and hopefully be ready for Saturday,” Brewster told Yorkshire Live when quizzed on his hamstring.

Naturally, having Rhian fit will be a boost for Paul Heckingbottom. The new Blades manager has already confirmed he will push the former Liverpool man to get the best out of him.

Likewise, Jack Lester has also confirmed he has been working with Brewster already on striker-specific bits of play.

Consistency

Seeing Brewster leave the field injured left us, and a lot of Sheffield United fans, fearing the worst. Just as things were on the up, it looked like the young striker was going to be pushed back.

His update here, then, is good news all around. After such a good performance against Bristol City, it’s unlikely that Heckingbottom won’t go with Brewster again this weekend.

Consistency is key for Brewster. That means he needs to keep playing games and hopefully, scoring goals. Any sort of setback now would be a cruel blow for the Blades starlet.

On paper, Cardiff is a winnable game for United. Brewster, given his links to Swansea, will be desperate to get one over on the Bluebirds. Likewise, the home fans will no doubt be ready with some treatment for both he and Conor.

Hopefully, Brewster can show his class and come out on top for the Blades.

How do you feel Rubin Colwill is progressing?

STEVE MORISON:

"He’s done excellent. He’s come from not getting into my 23s team to going to the Euros in the same year. Luton played with a one and a two in midfield, we knew they’d do that.

"Rubin’s just growing. The way we’re playing helps that. I think previously, he probably struggled in games where he started, and did better coming on when the game is more open.

"But we’re starting our games a little more open so he can find those pockets. He was excellent. He’s so much to work on, so much to improve on and there’s plenty he’s really good at.

"I think it’ll get to a point where you’re asking the question of how do we hold on to him. When you’re 19-years-old and having the impact he’s having on games of football at Championship level then no doubt there will be people watching.

"For us as a football club that’s a massively positive thing as it means we’re doing something right from the academy all the way through. I’m happy to put my neck on the line and say that’s probably not something we’ve done for a long time.

"It’s something we’re really doing now and what we’ll continue to do. We want longevity of that conveyor belt of players coming from the academy, so they come into the first team. Then you hopefully supplement that with players externally to make the group as strong as it can.

"We should have a football team and a squad that’s full of people from here."

Re: BREAKING STEVE MORISON: ' FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2021 '

Is his attitude the same as under-23s?

STEVE MORISON:

"I don’t want to sit here and wax lyrical too much because we’ll lose him quicker than we should. He used to do my head in in the under-23s.

"We’d ask them for eight to 12 clips of good stuff, bad stuff, and stuff they’ve been working on. He was a pain, sending 30 clips through!

"But that was about how much he wanted to learn. He always did more than others. The likes of Isaac [Davies] are similar in terms of on-the-grass stuff. Rubin was really frustrated that he didn’t play initially but he always understood why, and the amount of effort that he put in off the pitch and on it has come to light and that’s why he is where he is now."

Do you expect interest in him in January?

STEVE MORISON:

"I wouldn't be surprised. Of course not. I’d be pleased, because that means we’re doing something right. When was the last time we had interest in one of our academy boys?

"We’re talking about a player that’s one of the top goalscorers in the team, playing week in week out and is a massive part of the football club and of where we’ve been and our success. It’s not one we’d be entertaining any time soon.

"This is the best place for him. Playing in front of his family and his friends, the team he’s supported his whole life. Playing with his mates and growing with a support network that love and believe in him. I can’t see that [a sale] being of any interest to this football club.

"But I’m not going to sit here and lie that no one’s going to be interested in a 19-year-old that’s arguably our star man most weeks."

Why didn’t you pick Rubin to begin with in the U23s?

STEVE MORISON:

"Because he wasn’t good enough. Game was too fast for him. Every time he started the game, the game bypassed him and it was like he couldn’t sort his feet out.

"The balls were around him. But when you brought him on with 20 minutes or 30 minutes to go where the game opened up, he always flourished.

"He asked me numerous times and I said the same thing to him and then all of a sudden he was someone you couldn’t leave out the team. He might disagree with me."

Re: BREAKING STEVE MORISON: ' FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2021 '

Thu Dec 02, 2021 5:29 pm

Tough for him given you’re a renowned striker?

STEVE MORISON:

"Let’s get one thing right. Rubin has got far more ability than I ever had and we’re completely different players.

"But what I did know was that he wasn’t impacting a game when he was starting a game of football. When I watched him for the first team, I felt exactly the same thing at the start of the year.

"What’s his best cameo of the season? Nottingham Forest where he came on as a sub and the game was opened up. He started the next game and he got dragged off at half-time.

"We’ve come in, and I knew that if I played in a way that suited him, I’d be able to try and get the best out of him. I think ultimately that has happened."

'I wouldn't be surprised' - Cardiff City boss Steve Morison makes candid January transfer admission on Rubin Colwill

The Bluebirds boss admits there could well be interest in the Bluebirds starlet in January

By Tom Coleman

Friday 2nd December 2021

Steve Morison admits he 'wouldn't be surprised' to see other clubs taking an interest in Rubin Colwill when the transfer window re-opens next month - but insists Cardiff City remains the best place for him to continue his impressive progress.

The 19-year-old has once again earned heavy praise after netting his fourth goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Luton Town last week, and is now City's joint-top scorer.

It's already been something of a whirlwind year for the youngster, who previously struggled to impress Morison when they were working together with the club's under-23s.

But a stunning first team breakthrough under Mick McCarthy, and the three Wales caps that have come with it, has seen him emerge as one City's brightest young talents.

Morison himself admits the forward still has plenty of work ahead of him, but admits his form is already likely to attract admiring glances

STEVE MORISON:

"I wouldn't be surprised," he said when quizzed on potential interest. "Of course not. I’d be pleased, because that means we’re doing something right. When was the last time we had interest in one of our academy boys?

"We’re talking about a player that’s one of the top goalscorers in the team, playing week in week out and is a massive part of the football club and of where we’ve been and our success. It’s not one we’d be entertaining any time soon."

Morison believes any interest in Colwill should be taken as a ringing endorsement of the club's efforts at academy level, and insists Cardiff remains the ideal place for the youngster to continue his progress.

"This is the best place for him," Morison added. "Playing in front of his family and his friends, the team he’s supported his whole life. Playing with his mates and growing with a support network that love and believe in him.

"I can’t see that [a sale] being of any interest to this football club. But I’m not going to sit here and lie that no one’s going to be interested in a 19-year-old that’s arguably our star man most weeks."

Morison also insists he was right to overlook Colwill during his time as under-23s boss, but has clearly been taken aback by the player's willingness to progress.

He asked me numerous times and I said the same thing to him and then all of a sudden he was someone you couldn’t leave out the team.

Fri Dec 03, 2021 7:53 am

Cardiff are unlikely to be splashing the cash when the window re-opens, but could yet look to get a few deals done as Morison looks to supplement his squad, but he admits he's not yet received clarity on what sort of business will be possible.

STEVE MORISON:

"Those conversations have not happened yet," he said. "I don’t know when they’ll happen. It’s not a conversation we’re overly worried about right now because we think we’ve got enough good people in the building when everyone’s at it."

“We have no money, but could bring back some of our players out on loan.”

There are also increasing concerns over the number of players out of contract at the end of the season, with Joe Ralls, Sean Morrison and Alex Smithies among those facing uncertain futures.

"That’ll be the same conversation," he added. "What we're going to do going forward. I can only really worry about the short-term."

There has also been a suggestion that Cardiff may look to bring back some of their players out on loan, with Ryan Wintle enjoying a particularly successful spell at Championship rivals Blackpool.

Morison has refused to rule anything out this stage, but says no decision has yet been made.

"In terms of clarity, if we want to call them back, we’ll call them back. It’s only the start of DecemberThere’s a lot to happen between now and then. There’s decisions to be made, of course there is. We’re fully focused on the group I’ve got."

Following his interview, I think he is a breath of fresh air, the honesty that is in voice and I can see how he has quickly managed to turn the whole position around. The decision to appoint him following MM departure is likely to be one of the finest made by this club in a long time, long may it continue
