Wonder if we could crowd fund a statue for Phil? How much was the keenor one does anyone know? Who funded that one?
Also one for whittingham would be fantastic

I would be all in favour of one for Whitts and Phil Dwyer.

We've never been great at celebrating our past heroes, it took 80+ years to have a statues for Keenor so why not do something for these now.

Crowd funding sounds like a great way of at least starting it.

I had a chat with my good friend Paul (GrangeEndStar) and we both agreed that there are probably three true City greats that deserved the accolade of some sort of memorial at the ground...

Fred Keenor, Phil Dwyer and Peter Whittingham

Please make it happen; it will make a lot of people very happy and will be worthy of the stature those men hold in the annuls of Cardiff City's history  :notworthy:

Bearing in mind the thousands we have wasted over the years there is no reason whatsoever not to do this. Witts and Dwyer have graced our club for many years and deserve this accolade. We still haven’t sorted Witts out despite the club promising we would. What the hell takes so long? The fans deserve this. Dwyer was a rock. A one club man who lived in the community. When he played for South Wales Police he was still totally committed. A real hard man but a lovely chap. He was blue through and through. Never ducked a challenge and never gave an inch. A real proud man. They don’t make them like this now. RIP big man.

It's great that so many want this to happen Chris. Many clubs have several statues and to have two more for Joe and Whitts would be wholly appropriate and then we would have three amazing permanent tributes to true City greats.

Fred's statue cost £85K and took 2 years to install (2012) following fundraising, incliding donations from the WG and FAW, the supporters trust ran the fundraising campaign and did a good job. I'm sure another funding campaign would be well supported. It would be an amazing sight to see the statues of the three outside our three home stands. Would love this to happen, it would be the perfect tribute.

I'm sure it would be massively supported and I would be willing to contribute, if that were needed

As you said earlier, I would hope any tribute would have to include him wearing THAT shirt (in the OP) :notworthy:

Couldnt agree more, it will take time to ra oi se the necessary funds, but we have been dreadfully poor in representation of legends at the club, we need to step it up! Our record holder, and another great servant need to be recognized, surely we can do this for two who also left this place too early on life! Cmon boys let's get this started, before memories fade! I know for some of us, they never will, as we were fortunate to see both on hundreds of occasions! But for future generations to get to know more of the history of CCFC.id donate without any thought or hesitation.

Definitely in favour of a statue for Phil and Whitts.

In the meantime, why not re-name one of the stands after Phil. He's certainly deserving of that and it could be done much more quickly than a statue.

Needs to be done and if we are honest it should be easy to raise the funds between the fans and club

I hope it happens, need one of the supporter groups to spearhead it really.

Maybe Corky can put a focus group together or something?

I can set up a focus group if required, I do know that the club will be looking at naming an area inside the stadium after Joe, probably one of the lounges, nothing confirmed yet but I think is likely to happen. With anything like this, the first step is to make sure the families are comfortable about any arrangements. It is heart breaking for them for many years and sensitivity is extremely important. I won't go into details but that is why sometimes things seem low key to the fans when these tragic events happen.
I can definitely get the message across to the club and board though that this is somethging fans are thinking about.

It's great that the club is already thinking about recognising Phil's achievements. However, I do think that it merits more than one of the lounges that have very limited access or visibility.

Fully appreciate the sensitivities and the need to wait a while until people are in a better place to consider but, for me, a lounge is not what is needed/deserved here.

Probably best for us to wait and see what comes of upcoming discussions.

From memory the statue was 100k - which seems a lot of money.

Im not a statue maker - but Im sure with a bit of new technology it could be done for a lot less money.
1. 3d printer to print a cast of any player.
2. Attach output to a stand
3. Make a cup of tea and admire the handy work.

That should be nowhere near 100k. If you wanted the delux version then take a cast of the 3d print and cast it metal (not good for the carbon foot print though).

What a wonderful idea, for Joe and whitts I would certainly contribute to it, as Corky said first contact with the families is a must, two great legends rip. :ayatollah:

As always mate you make sense, I'll be honest and embarrassed to say in the heat of the post I didn't think of the families thoughts on a statue, I guess the first thing you think is what a nice 'tribute it would be' but you are spot on they have to have the final say as they might not want a statue and I could totally understand that to be honest as even though it would be done with love and affection I can see it from the other side as well as they might not want a reminder in 'that way' as everybody is different :bluescarf:
