Warnock - we dodged a bullet!

Fri Nov 12, 2021 5:15 am

Yeah he did ok with us when he joined by thank f**k we didn't go back in for him.

He would have sent Harris, Colwill, Evans, Davies, Sang, Bagan, Zimba and Bowen back to the U23's, released them or sent them on loan.

He would have brought in high salary free transfers (and they certainly wouldn't be the quality of Bamba or Holliet) and then spaffed money we don't have in January.

He would have taken the McCarthy approach and yes made it more effective... but hoofball would be back with a vengeance.

Honestly, I would rather go down (seriously not joking) developing our youth and improving our playing style rather than staying up playing Warnock ball, playing shitty football, undermining our youth system and spaffing money on players he won't pick.

Bullet dodged as far as I am concerned - I will give Morison my full backing because already he has shown more technical ability, team selection and footballing approach in three first games (and in his u23 management) than Warnock showed in all his years with us.

That was then and this is now in AfricanBluebird and so many others minds, Mike ;)

Neil Warnock has a decent 'history' of bringing youngsters through and would have used more Under 23's had we had any to promote during what certainly were 'better' times for the club but not the Under 23's

AfricanBluebird has seemingly (or deiberately?) forgotten that Neil ap Warnock has brought 'success' to more clubs than anyone outside and elite few managers, hence a record number of 'games in charge' and a record number of 'promotions'

Personally, I believe bringing him back for a short period (something I'm told didn't really get off the ground) would have been the wrong thing to do, as we need to look forward even in our current position

But that is not to 'knock' Neil ap Warnock for his achievements or for not using a group of Under 23's he felt (as many did) simply weren't ripe for picking at that particular time

I for one don’t want Warnock back However for what he did at city i would always buy him a pint if i bumped into him and thank him for what he did Only the 2nd manager in my 45 years of watching city that took us to the top league .
I now want to see a different style of football and see some out academy kids come through as regulars as we did Ledley , Ramsey , Gunter , Blake , Matthews again
So thank you Colin for what you did for City

I don't smoke weed.

The endorphins and my love if city made me celebrate the small success we had under Warnock - but it was ALWAYS going to end badly as it has done in every single club he got promoted. We all knew really that the football under Warnock was woeful and unsustainable.

Yes he brought in Bamba and Hoilett but my point is there are no decent frees of that quality available now for him to have brought in... lets also remember that despite the frees he brought in he also used his own sons agency to bring in other expensive players who he never even attempted to bring into the team.

He was and is a dinosaur, did nothing for the youth, put us back footballing years and the success Warnock brought us was flash-in-the-pan, which is his MO.

It may seem 'disrespectful' to some... but he has gone and many of us didn't want him back. With Morison we have made a bit of a breakthrough.... lets get behind him completely and hope the board does too.

Yeah well, Warnock disrespected ALL of us paying fans when he spaffed money away on players who he never played but where there was a conflict of interest when the players agent was a relative or friends of his. Disgraceful.

My disrespect for Warnock stops at snide comments on a messageboard, his disrespect for us cost our club millions - and yet some fans are seduced by superficial fist-pumps and his fat morainic tantrums. Jesus.

It was a Miracle he got us up but we all knew he was the wrong person to keep us there - facts and history bear that out.

But one season of Premier League failure cost our club a LOT.

Very disrespectful to Warnock who, on the whole worked miracles for us.

AfricanBluebird is another with a lopsided inflexible agenda, mate :(

Warnock did wonders for us dont disrespect the man who gave a season in the Premier League because other than warnock only Malky Mackay took us up in the 7 seasons and before that 1953. You have to be grateful for the things Neil Warnock did because if he never turned up at our door then we would be in League 1 already. and he brought great players from the lower leagues like Etheridge Mendez-Laing amongst a few others who did wonders for us. So respect the guy because he will forever be a legend to us.

Well said.

I respect him for his career... Never to be beaten in terms of games managed and promotions.

And of course I do appreciate he came into our club and helped us get promotion which was miraculous.

However, there is a lot of rose tinted spectacles on here.

He wasted a lot of money and his personal connections to agents was a conflict of interests.

The football under him was woeful and you can't sustain a premier league team playing like that.

I'm not sure what Sven means when he says I have an agenda. The only agenda I have is that city move forward and we do the right thing on the playing side.... Appointing Warnock wouldn't have done that.

Anyway. It hardly matters now... Morison has been appointed along with Tom and Hudson also brought in.... Maybe saving costs was a significant part of that decision, but it actually makes sense in a lot of levels.

I'll stop you there Sam, LEGEND?? 1953? The last time we were in the top division was 1962 before malky.thenwarnick, but in honesty,I see neither as legends.
Warnock and mally surpassed all expectations in getting us to the premier league, and warnock openly admitted we were "lucky" to be there, and openly admitted his distaste for the prem too.we should have replaced him when we got there, which I would normally say was unfair, but his open admission should have been a red flag, it was ignored, and we came straight back down, although through some rather dubious decisions on the pitch to boot.
Grateful for what he did in his tenure, but for me the word legend is ott.

Totally agree with you. He wasn’t coming back but I’m sure the club asked his advice and why shouldn’t they.
