Keep Steve Morison As Manager

Sat Nov 06, 2021 5:34 pm

Done well in his short time in charge.
Got the players playing the ball on the floor.
Brought a few youngsters into the team.
Knows the club setup and players around him.

Any new manager won’t get any money, will have to get to know the players and setup, will have to adjust to the hierarchy (!), and would be a huge risk in my opinion.

Give it to Steve.

Agree, you can't polish a turd but SM will get the best out of what we have available so pointless getting a new Manager unless Tan changes his approach or sells up. :bluescarf:

I think SM has done an amazing job with these players in just 14 days and I think he deserves a chance even if it's just to the end of the season.

Just a few stats to highlight the difference in how the team is playing compared to numb nuts McCarthy. In the game against Swansea we attempted 188 passes and completed 108 (57%), today we attempted 470 passes and completed 356 (76%).

An amazing difference.

100% agree.

Re: Keep Steve Morison As Manager

Think he needs an experienced head besides him. We could have easily lost that game today .the defence is very shaky. In possession though the football is a breath of fresh air.

Keep him in situ until Xmas then re assess.
Wouldn’t give him the job till end of season just yet....what happens if we go on another dire run?
Would need them to get someone else in .
He deserves up to Xmas IMO

I agree. Morison til the end of the season while keeping his under 23s job open to him to return to.

What’s the alternative? Yes he’s a risk as he hasn’t got managerial experience but so are Beale and jody Morris. We don’t know these guys really, are they going to be arrogant big I am types thinking they’re the bollocks cause they’ve come from big clubs? Morison is clearly a good bloke who seems to get a tune out of the youngsters. The aim now is just to stay up, I think with a big fight about the team that should be possible.

Why to make signings we've been told we cant have

He’s earned a chance until Christmas, bring in Cameron Toshack to cover the under 23’s.Review Both postisions before Christmas and the January window when an experienced Manager can be appointed if we’re still in relegation trouble!

Someone like Mick McCarthy?

Re: Keep Steve Morison As Manager

We should stick with Morison and hopefully he’s allowed too sign some loan players in January

I’m not too sure Jody Morris or Michael Beale would work,

Who are they going too sign ? Youth players from Chelsea and Liverpool ? Both their u23s are having a terrible season, doesn’t fill me full of confidence that we could kick on.

Any suggestions?

Must be someone willing to work with both hands tied behind his back as far as new signings are concerned for the enxt two transfer windows at the very least as confirmed by the chairman recently,

Impressed with morison so far. Considering the run we were on, 4 points from the 3 games is not a bad return. Comes across well in his interviews as well.

Id like to see him given more time, at least until Christmas. He's managed to significantly improve our passing game in a short time. The international break gives him more time to improve things. The players seem to be reacting well to him as well.

Give him until end of season and review

Our defence isn't used to being in possession and passing the ball so will need some time to get used to it, and while he's done brilliantly there's no doubt that our squad is certainly not balanced and needs "adjusting" as soon as we can. Some of our young players may well be great in the long term, but could do with some more experienced creative midfield support in the short term, and it is likely to be far more cost-effective to change some players in the next transfer window rather than run the risk of relegation.

Much better start than I expected.

When we were losing today, he shifted us to a back 4 (our natural defensive formation in my opinion) and shuffled the pack.

He made personnel changes in Davies (who made the two goals), Colwill who made an impact offensively and Vaulks (well you can’t win them all :) ).

He’s the man for the job right now. He knows what he’s doing.

End of the season? We’ll see…

He changed it today…but he didn’t on Wednesday. Maybe he learnt from that.

He has done an incredible job to change the style in the way that he has in a couple of weeks. But I don’t think it is right to give him the job.

He is doing a great job with the U23s and developing the next set of players…some of which may be an important income stream for us. Give him the main job and it doesn’t end well, we lose someone from the club who could be so critical to our future.

I’d still go for someone who is young, wants to play to the style (or better) that SM has got them playing but also someone who has contacts through the game (especially given the obvious lack of football knowledge). The guy at Blackpool or Beale @ Rangers feel like stronger options that Morison at the moment.

He’s the only man for the job. 4 points from 9. More passes than we’ve seen for years, football improving every game. We know we have 10 players out of contract in June and no money to spend. The only place we’re getting players from is the youth or players renewing on lesser terms. He knows the youth better than anyone. Any new man will want to spend money which isn’t available.

I think this is the most sensible route too.

He's obviously done a great job with the u23s. That needs to continue.

The main man probably needs a bit more experience. But continue to play the same way, develop a philosophy that's shared by the academy and first team.

Having seen Whyte play for a team who pass it I think SM will suit him and we will see better performances. Murphy would be more at home in this formation although Davies, Evans and Colwill look decent and will play more for the shirt.

Winter back and suddenly things look a lot better.

Agree with all that, but please not Murphy again !! He can’t even get in the Preston team and he’s had so many chances here I’ve lost count !! And he’s still on £20k+ a week !!

Out of contract at the end of the season and time to move him on.

Re: Keep Steve Morison As Manager

I would keep him at least until xmas unless a really stand out manager wants to come to us . You can clearly see what he is trying to do with style of play . Yes we will make mistakes and it will take time and the younger lads look much more comfortable with this style of play rather than the lump it up field quickly
My issue is will City fans give the manager and players time Even yesterday fans who complained about our previous style of play we’re telling players to lump it quickly up field If we are going to play possession football we will go backwards a number of times rather than just kicking up field just to lose it again
The players have looked fitter at the end of each game than before It may be that we have had more of the ball and not just chasing it down all the time

Lack of other options really is why I say Murphy. He has played well for us and performed.

100% there is nothing to lose by keeping him up to Christmas, we have already seen that in two short weeks both the performances and results have greatly improved.
He should represent a good way forward for Vincent Tan: a low cost option and providing clear linkage through from the academy right up to the first team and he has already provided a change of fortune, if he was to be replaced with someone else (PLEASE, PLEASE not Flynn) we would have to start again with changes, and what signal does that send to the players and indeed the fans :old: :occasion5: :occasion5: :occasion5: :occasion5: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

a PS bring back our loan players in January, I think we could get a better tune with this method of play from Murphy and Wintle :bluebird: :bluebird:
