BREAKING STEVE MORISON: " FRIDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2021 "

Fri Nov 05, 2021 7:07 am

:bluebird: :bluebird: “ STEVE MORISON UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff are now without a win in their last 10 matches and only one win in their last 13 matches, it is now their worst ever run in their 122 history.

STEVE MORISON:

“I have not been asked if i want the job permanently or interviewed for the job.”

Friday 5th November 2021

STEVE MORISON:

Injury update?

No new news. Everything is as it was. They came out of the game unscathed :thumbright: :bluebird:

Morison

“We need that extra little bit of quality in our squad, that’s all the difference between us and many of the Championship Clubs.”

"We needed a moment of quality, they had it and we didn't."

“The difference between both sides was that extra bit of quality that we need.”

"We up against it" in the relegation battle.

The Bluebirds sit just one point off the bottom three after losing nine of their last 10 games.

Relegation is a growing threat with each passing game, even if there are still 30 games left to play in the campaign.

And Morison tried to ease concerns, but admitted that, come the end of the season, unless the team bucks up its ideas then the table won't lie.

"Look, we are at the start of November," Morison began.

"The table doesn't lie now and it won't lie at the end of the season.

"We are up against it, but there is still 30 games left of the season so there is still a hell of a lot of points left to play for."

Could be your last game in charge, could not be, how you feeling?

That’s not up to me!

We have worked again on what we are going to do tomorrow.

Let's see what happens, it’s football.

It is what it is. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’ve just been really pleased with how the lads have bought into it and the lads seem to be enjoying it.

It’s been a great experience and I’ve loved every minute of it.

I haven’t heard from anyone, I don’t know what’s going on, all I know is I’m taking charge of Huddersfield and head into an international break.

STEVE MORISON:

Fans saying it’s the best you played on Wednesday?

Yeah and we still went 1-0 down!

We will give it a go our way and we will try and make it look better. We achieved that for large parts.

We are at this level where you get punished.

But we lost the game 1-0.

We analysed this morning and everything was through the roof, passing, accuracy, final-third entries, everything was better than it has been.

The proof is in the pudding in terms of the data. Next step is to change the score column to a positive one to us.

At the start of the week, if you took four points it’s a decent return (from three games).

The way the fans stayed with us, we largely controlled things, so if we can turn that performance in again it’ll be a pleasing return.

Relegation battle, you seen enough to say they're not going to be there at the end?

Of course. You’ve all seen enough.

People are using the ball, being brave, being confident, people are gutted and despondent. People are coming in the next day and are really positive about what we are doing.

We just need the result to get the monkey off our back.

Everyone needs a win. We all want a win.

I hope that everyone can feel that and sense that.

Huddersfield the visitors, played three teams in top eight?

You look at the names, the Championship is one hell of a division.

It’s a massive game, at home, can we dominate the ball and be better than them without the ball?

It’s another team in and around the top of the table, but we are Cardiff City at home, that’s nothing to worry about for us.

Re: STEVE MORISON:

CCFC 0 QPR 1

STEVE MORISON:

"The lads are gutted," Morison said.

"I said to them tonight, 'look, don't be down, don't feel sorry for yourselves'.

"It comes around thick and fast, 48 hours and we go again.

"There is frustration, but I do feel a sense of positivity around the place. We will come back in and go to work, add to our performance tonight, which was largely positive apart from that one moment. But that writes the story for the whole game.

"But hopefully our progression from that is, on Saturday, we put it all together and we come out on top."

It is clear that Morison has put his stamp on things so far, as Will Vaulks said in the lead-up to this game, and that was evident right from the off.

Despite another defeat, which will be heavy to take for City fans as they see their team now just one point above the relegation zone, it was pleasing to hear fans so supportive of a much-changed style of play - even if the quality was lacking at times.

And Morison hopes that this shift, in such a short space of time, has legs and can be the blueprint for the team going forward - whether he is the man to carry it out long-term or not.

"I said that I would do it my way. You can see what style we want," Morison said.

"There are going to be some hairy moments. There are going to be some risky moments, moments where your heart is in your mouth.

"But I thought actually tonight that, every time those moments happened and everyone gasped, we came out of it the other side and switched play or played someone down the line.

"It's the risk and reward.

"I thought they took it on really well and if you play in that kind of style there is progression in it and there is longevity in it.

"I think there are two teams who wanted to keep the ball, wanted to be compact out of possession.

"Tonight, they had one moment of quality and we didn't."

STEVE MORISON:

"We lost, everything else doesn't really matter.

"We felt we were in control of the game, with and without the ball, in the first half and then that one moment we get wrong and they punish us, that's where we are at the moment.

"The goal was the decisive moment, great pass, great finish and we didn't really have that, I can't dress it up any other way really.

Tom Sang situation?

It’s just painful and it’s in his toe - and you need your feet! It’s the one thing you can’t rest.

He feels fine but then he goes out and plays football and he has to use it again.

With your toe, you can run, fine, but how about whack a ball? And all of a sudden it hurts again.

It’s a constant process.

He is out on the grass.

We are going into an international window where we can use this time where we don’t need to force anything.

We have a couple of friendlies with the under-23s over that period and hopefully he will be OK after that.

Is there a formal application process you have to go through to apply for the job?

I’m a pretty honest guy. I’ve not even spoken to anyone. I’ve not even been asked if I want the job, I’ve not told anyone I want the job.

I’ve been asked to help the lads over a couple of games.

It was said I’d be in charge for the three games leading up to the international break and someone else would be in charge by Preston.

Until told otherwise, that’s the case.

Re: STEVE MORISON:

STEVE MORISON:

Any reluctance from the players when you came in? Style of play-wise?

No, I think they’ve really enjoyed it.

They enjoy the ball coming into them, getting the players in 1v1 situations, being hard to break down, being in control of the opposition without having the football, being brave, expressing yourself.

The most frustrating thing for me was creating good moments.

If Perry scores in the first 10 minutes of the game we win that game comfortably.

But we didn’t.

They have a front three of Andre Gray, Lyndon Dykes, Charlie Austin, they are going to take that chance.

We are just not at that bit when they get into those positions you are hoping they are going to do it. When Andre Gray got it you knew the net was going to ripple.

We just need to be better in those areas as standard, rather than a wish or a hope.

Ultimately, we have asked the players to do some things, we have asked them to take things on board.

I did hear someone the other day, what do you want? Win by any means necessary or change the style and entice better players to come and play for us because we play a nice style or better brand of football?

You look at some teams and wonder how they have got those players and we haven’t. Sometimes it comes down to style.

I think Will Vaulks said, they can all play football. You don’t get to this stage of their career without being able to play football.

STEVE MORISON:

First team playing like the 23s now?

It’s a similar version.

I believe if we continue to have more possession than the other team, more entries into the box, final third entries and corners it can only be positive.

Re: STEVE MORISON:

Fri Nov 05, 2021 9:27 am

Will Vaulks said about bringing new players in, in January, if you were in charge, do you think the club needs heavy recruitment?

I wouldn’t say heavy recruitment, it just needs to be the right recruitment. Do you need players in all positions? No. Do you need players in certain positions to help the players? Yeah. I’m not saying anything no one else would say.

STEVE MORISON:

I’m sure if it came to January, whoever is in charge would think the same.

We’ve got some really good young players. In the two games, Kieron and Rubin have been excellent.

Where you have an issue is, when you look beyond them in the forward areas, for example, your only other change is Mark Harris going up top. And you forget he’s really young as well.

In the forward areas you look and say Isaak Davies has done well, Chanka Zimba has done well, but there is that step. It has to be the right time. In a team that’s not winning you might not see the best of them if you bring them in.

If you get to that point in January you will be bringing in players, hopefully, who can supplement what you want to do, rather than just bring anybody in.

STEVE MORISON:

Did you have any preconceptions about the job?

You never know what the reaction is going to be.

There was no big speech from me. It was kept very simple. It was about getting out of this slump, doing it as a group.

I just said what I was going to ask them to do, the big question for me was whether they were going to do it.

It’s quite nice to see they have bought into it and they can do what I’ve asked them to do.

They’ve managed to carry it out. I’ve not overcomplicated it or confused them. Ultimately, it’s about managing people.

Steve Morison admits Cardiff City board have not asked him about taking manager's job

The Bluebirds caretaker manager is preparing to take charge of his final game as interim boss when Huddersfield Town visit on Saturday

Friday 5th November 2021

Steve Morison has said no member of Cardiff City's board has contacted him over taking the manager's job on a permanent basis as he prepares for his final game as caretaker manager this weekend.

Following Mick McCarthy's dismissal, it was understood that Morison would be given the three fixtures before the international break while the club sought a replacement.

Morison has made an immediate mark and implemented a much slicker style of football in the last 10 days or so, even if City have managed only one point from the last two games.

But the sudden change which has been clear has some wanting Morison to take charge on a more permanent basis, be that until the end of the season or permanently.

However, ahead of the visit of Huddersfield Town this Saturday afternoon, Morison admitted no one had asked him if he is interested in taking on the job permanently.

STEVE MORISON:

"I’m a pretty honest guy. I’ve not even spoken to anyone," Morison said. "I’ve not even been asked if I want the job, I’ve not told anyone I want the job.

"I’ve been asked to help the lads over a couple of games.

"It was said I’d be in charge for the three games leading up to the international break and someone else would be in charge by Preston.

"Until told otherwise, that’s the case."

That being the case, when asked if he did want the job permanently, Morison said: " I want three points tomorrow. That’s all you’re getting out of me!"

Despite the defeat against QPR on Wednesday, many supporters believed it was a far more appealing style of football which had been implemented by Morison and Tom Ramasut.

While there is, of course, a need to get points on the board, with the team currently hovering just a single point above the relegation zone, there have been some gains on the pitch over the course of the last two games.

But with Cardiff now 10 games without a win, and without a victory at home since beating Milwall on August 21, three points against the Terriers on Saturday is an absolute must.

Asked whether he had seen enough to convince him that this squad has what it takes to get out of this relegation dogfight, Morison said: "Of course You’ve all seen enough in the last two games.

"You've seen heart, fight, passion. You've seen people using the ball really well, being brave, being confident

"I've seen people in the dressing room who are gutted and despondent after the game. That's what you want to see!

"They are coming in the next day and are really positive about what we are doing. They believe we are going the right way.

"I honestly believe that if we get that one result, it just gets the monkey off our back.

"Forget about myself. This club needs a win. The players need a win. The fans need a win. [The media] needs us to win, so you can write more positive than negative! Everyone needs a win.

"That's what we are all striving to do and I hope that everyone can feel that and sense that from the way the players are playing and the words that are coming out of my mouth."

Good comments from him again.

Don't agree with the club not talking to him about taking the job permanently or even interviewing him.

Seen more from these last two games with him in charge than any other game this season. He's right that the only thing that cost us is a lack of quality. That's down to the board and their cost cutting.

If we appoint someone like Hughton, we will revert back to the way we were playing before Morison. That will most likely result in relegation.

Hughton would have been a good appointment five or six years ago when he was in the running but messed up his PowerPoint presentation, but not now.

I believe that if we gave the job to Morison permanently, we would see a much better style of football and would have a fighting chance of staying up.

Sadly, despite all of Mehmet Dalman MP's comments about wanting a younger manager who plays a more attractive style of football, we are likely to go in the opposite direction and just bring in a like-for-like replacement for Mick McCarthy. We should all be preparing for the worst when and if that happens.

Morison would be my choice at this stage though, and I think many fans would say the same.

Steve Morison's programme notes:

"We've had moments of real positivity in the past two games and after hard work in the build-up to this one it's my hope that we'll take those elements, put them together and come out on top to give you all something to cheer about this afternoon.

"On behalf of myself, Tom, the staff and players, thank you for sticking by us and showing us your support this past week and again today."
