Mike Flynn not top of the list / The CCFC COMMITTEE LOOKING

Tue Nov 02, 2021 11:34 am

Cardiff are yet to draw up a shortlist of contenders to succeed Mick McCarthy as their next manager, but could yet turn to an experienced head to help turn their season round.

Tuesday 2nd November 2021

Michael Flynn is currently the bookies favourite, but insiders have played down the chances of the former Newport County boss taking the reins.

The 41-year-old has not yet been categorically ruled out, but it's understood his status as favourite has been well overstated.

Steve Morison is currently being looked at seriously and so is Chris Hughton by the Cardiff City Committee ( Tan / Dalman and Choo).

No decision has yet been made, with rookie duo Michael Beale and Jody Morris also both firmly on the radar, but there is a feeling in some corners of the hierarchy that they could be potentially risky appointments, particularly with the club currently facing up to a possible relegation battle.

As a result, Cardiff City Committee could yet turn their attention to a candidate with real Championship experience in a bid to get things back on track.

Chris Hughton is one of the names who has been mentioned in the Cardiff boardroom, while Rotherham United boss Paul Warne has also been floated.

However, it's understood former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has ruled himself out of the Cardiff job.

Cardiff's search is set to step up in the coming days, but it seems they are essentially facing a decision between appointing a young, dynamic coach capable of changing the team's style and approach, and appointing a battle-hardened Championship manager who can give an under-performing squad the fighting spirit needed to scrap their way out of trouble.

Meanwhile, interim boss Steve Morison's chances have still not been dismissed following Saturday's thrilling 3-3 draw at Stoke City.

The Cardiff Committee says they have rushed before, so they will take their time and eve Ben if it takes another couple of weeks do be it.

Annis you’re right about Flynn. I posted yesterday he wouldn’t be our manager.
He won’t be on the short list.

OMG!! Not Hughton. He would be a disaster. Old school type manager who couldn't get a tune out of Forest's talented squad while Cooper comes in and they go on a winning run. Also, look at how Potter has transformed Brighton after Hughton almost got them relegated. I'm pretty sure he'd demand a budget too, which apparently we don't have. Please take a chance on a young and talented and hungry number two.

Like MM, Hughton's day has gone, young dynamic managers/ coaches are the way forward and personality I wouldn't mind a couple of years mid table championship with a good young manager to discover our own playing style with a good group of youngsters playing bloody football.
To start with boot out MD and get a DOF in who knows the game not a clown who thinks it's clever name dropping ex manure whenever he can. :D

Cameron Toshack will probably similar style to Cooper. Doubt he'll be massively expensive and can work on a tight budget, bringing through the youth.

Cameron Toshack has had some positive things said about him

Does he have a current club/role since leaving Pafos?

Could be one for the backroom coaching staff with one eye on the future? :thumbright:

Who ever is the cheapest will get the job, Houghton has as much charisma as MM. :bluebird:

Hughton at Forest .....same set of players Cooper comes in - and look at them now.

My biggest fear is that Dalman and Choo will feck it up AGAIN - like they did with Harris and McCarthy

Yes, agree; that name hardly inspires and (if reports and the Steve Cooper effect are to believed) they started the season with a better squad than ours... :(

Flynn is currently 1/5 to become the next Barnsley manager.

I think if Morison can get at least four points from these two home games, he should be given the chance until the end of the season.

Whatever happens, we must keep him at the club. Has a huge future in coaching/management I think and also speaks very well.

Hughton wouldn't be anywhere near my choice either, would prefer Morison.

But remember that Mick did very well with us when he came in. Let's see where both Cooper and Forest are at the end of the season, or where they both are in five years.

I noticed that this morning, he’s now 1/2 on so must be something in it ? Fingers crossed he goes there and not to us.

Massive no for flynn. He wouldn't bring anything to the club and the majority of fans (on social media anyway) don't want him here. Would be a repeat of the Harris and mick appointment. If we are just going to go cheap then I'd rather just give it to morison now.

Hughton over flynn but would just be a sideward step. I cant imagine hughton would be cheap or would come here without a budget anyway.

We need to get with the times and bring a modern coach in! Id have any of the coaches mentioned over flynn and hughton.

Surely they couldn't be so stupid as to fetch Chris Hughton in after the last two?
If they're even considering him they really need to get somebody else in to help them.
They should start by looking at how they made a right b's up of the last 2 appointments and learn from their mistakes.

Only actually has a 35 % win record at Rotherham. Is doing well for them this season but then Rotherham always seem to do well in league one and struggle in the Championship. Has a decent reputation but is he much better than Neil Harris? Not the worst appointment but we could probably do better. If we go for an outsider would prefer on of the good coaches mentioned.
