Apparently:

The U23 players are on between £400-£425 a week.

Those that got promoted to the Senior Squad of course had a pay rise, I have been told Bagan is on £800 a week and Colwwil £850 approx.

So to be fair that’s how we would like football wages players to be on max, but this is not the real world.

League 1 & 2 players are on more.

How long will we be able told any quality players that come through, so if offers come in and we are told the players want to move on don’t blame them.

So to be fair Joel Bagan is worth it, but if we have a squad full of these players on these wages in my opinion, Not even the best managers in the world could save us from relegation or challenge for promotion.

We are lucky that their are 3-5 clubs in as bad as way as we are.

Apparently Joe Bennett was on £18,000 a week before his contract ran out.

SO YES BAGAN IS WELL VALUE FOR MONEY :thumbright: :bluebird:

But can we survive on a squad of Joel Bagans??

How do you rate Joel Bagan?

Will he become a quality Championship player?

Joel Bagan aged 20, joined Cardiff City at 18 years old after coming through the Southampton Accademy and then being released.

Bagan has now made 17 appearances for Cardiff City in the last 2 seasons(mainly this season).

Will become a solid championship LB/LWB in time. Hes learning his trade in a very difficult league. He makes mistakes but so did Bennet - even with all his experience.

Think he will benefit from a better passing game, all our youngsters will. Bagan could probably have done with another season as backup to an experienced LB and slowly worked into the first 11. Again, similar to a few of our youngsters, he has been thrown in at the deepend. But he is only 20 and I think he will quickly improve.

Not being sold in january is he Annis? Wouldn't surprise me at the moment.

Jury still out for me

From what we've seen: Defensively isn't solid enough yet, has some promise going forward

Caveat: defensively we've been awful this season and we've also seen experienced championship players out of position and or making basic errors so it may not be totally down to his ability, hence reserving judgement. Likewise we haven't been attacking very much so difficult to rate that side of his game.

Overall: from what I've seen, the answer is no but it's very possible that with a different manager and style he could come good, there's definitely something there

He’s like most of our youngsters, manager and style of play just hasn’t suited them.Needs more time under new manager and see then.
I certainly haven’t given up on him.

Tend to agree with this; looks okay but room for improvent under a new coach/manager

I think I know where we are going with this one (maybe not) and it's a tough one for the very reasons that you (Annis) may expand on

As a defender any mistakes are highlighted to a great degree than for instance Colwill mistakes ( Who has made many poor passes that Bagan and many more missed tackles and letting his man go )
I believe Bagan will become a very solid championship player as a minimum Would not surprise me if he has a similar career to someone like Gunter

Not the finished article, but he will become a good player for us in the lower leagues in a year or two. ;)

Some youngsters come through and you just know that they won't make it with us.

Healey, Jarvis, O'sullivan, Wharton etc.

I don't get that feeling with Bagan. I think he's doing well to be honest - will only improve.
The fact he got chucked in at the deep end and he hasn't sunk is a good sign

Re: Honest Opinions?

He does not overlap enough for me, always passes the ball backwards when he is on the halfway line. Having said that the style of play under MM he did not have much opportunity to get forward like the rest of the team.
Give him another 2 seasons and things could change for the better.

Unfortunately he should not be near the first team as he has been found out on a number of occasions, thtas not to say he will come good. Needs a loan to a league 1 club

I'm not sure if he will improve and make it one day, but at present I would say he's miles off Bennett, if Bennett's an 8, Bagan at the moment is about a 4, Teams will always attack that side as we don't have a solid left back at the club.

We are not that much better on the right, unless NG plays further back.

We need two new fullbacks asap !!!

Re: Honest Opinions?

I recall him at Forest pumping us up after each goal. We all love to see that.

Then at Coventry the next game the player he was meant to be marking got behind him most of the game. School boy errors that put us on the backfoot most of the game.

Now I'm not 100% sure about him.

I might be wrong but the only so called youngster who’s been loaned out previously is Harris?

All the others have not had the opportunity due to being thrown in at the deep end. IMO they should all have had the chance to go out on loan to get a bit more experience but hey ho it’s not happened.

Bagan will take time to improve as will all the others and he might turn out to be a great left sided player. Once again in my opinion I don’t think he’s been suited to our style of play and needed time as a full back before he did wing back.

He also needs to be up against another left back to help him and I’m sure that will be addressed soon. It’s been great to see all the youngsters coming through but once again we appear to have lurched from none coming through to half the team consisting of them.

They will all take time and I for one will never criticise any of them. If 3 or 4 eventually make it that will be great, I’m sure Bagan will turn out to be a quality player for us for yrs to come :ayatollah:

Maybe that' the old school answer; to beat it out of him (and others) ;) :laughing6:

Seriously though, he's doing okay under the circumstances and a man manager like Steve Morison (temporary or not) will surely be a boost? :thumbright:

Every player has to learn somewhere - and you will learn a hell of lot more in the first team of any club than you would in a reserve team. If he cant handle the city's first team - then loan him to a top half league 1 team or struggling championship team. Just about in every field if work - you learn a hell of lot more at the harsh end in a real environment. At his age - he has had plenty of time to learn his craft - he now needs to test his metal against his peers.

Yes, indeed; most of us will have had to learn at 'the sharp end' and I certainly did with little or no room for error

The boy will be okay and this season's experience, including a change of coach/manager, will hold him in good stead :ayatollah:

Of the youngsters who’ve made it into the First XI I think he has the most to prove despite having played the most games.

I worry about his positioning more than anything else. He just seems to lose concentration a lot and is then having to make last ditch tackles to recover.

I haven’t seen enough of him going forward and will give him the benefit of the doubt on that due to the way McCarthy set us up but i haven’t seen him contribute enough in an attacking sense yet.

As I say, early days but he has a lot of learning to do quickly in my opinion.

Re: Honest Opinions?

He's ok. Too much being asked of him at the moment. Our only real recognised left back, and a young player playing in a team of inexperienced youngsters won't help him.

He has had the odd good game which bodes well, but he needs a good experienced team around him or he'll be another player who will simply fade away.

As long as he wears our shirt I'll back him. :bluescarf:

Same here he's a liability and weak link though, I don't think he'll play much unless Morison can get through and improve his defensive side?

The problem is he doesn't really have any competition, but someone has to be better short term?

Time will tell, Morison knows his capabilities and character much better than I do?

100% agree.

It's a shame we haven't still got bennet and hoilet for him to learn from. I think he'll be a decent championship player if he keeps his head screwed on!
