MY VIEW:

Interesting Steve Morison joined Cardiff City as lead coach for the U23’S in November 2019.

We had had some terrible results season after season in the U23’S, last season we saw an improvement towards the end of the season and this season 7 games, 7 wins :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

The current U23’S side is way better in my opinion of the players that have been thrown in the Current Cardiff first team. Rubin Colwill for me is way ahead of any of the players that have been thrown in in to the current first team.

If you read what Morison says he had a major say in transforming the U23’S :thumbright: :bluebird:

STEVE MORISON:

"I've had a huge job in trying to change the U23s fortunes around”

"From when I came in, I've been working towards changing the mindset in the Academy and the Club.”

"I think I've managed to achieve that, making massive changes there and that's showing in the performances. Between myself, Tom and the staff in the Academy, we've made huge strides there and that's been my focus until Monday afternoon.”

“I have redeveloped a lot of the Accademy and hopefully, we are redoing the rewards now.”

"On the flip side of the results on the pitch, we've had really good work with a lot of players getting their opportunities in the first team, which we haven't had for many a year. We need to make sure that carries on."

You can't deny his record so far and it seems managers of his type are finding the step up not as daunting as people might think.I hope he does well and takes his chance as I don't think theres anything better out there(big name or not).He also co-commentated on a couple of first team games last season and came across really well.

Really impressed with his words yesterday. Always thought he’d be a good fit down city as a player. Put his head in where it hurts. Didn’t shirk anything and seemed like a very honest footballer.

If he can get that ethos into our squad then I think we could be on to a winner. We all know that all Cardiff city ask for is a bit of passion and determination on the pitch. Paterson wasn’t the best footballer in the world but give me 11 players like him on the pitch every time.

Morison has the attitude and drive that we have been missing. 100% give him a chance for the rest of this season as I have no doubt he will motivate and transform our negative football into something we actually want to watch. Results may not go our way to start with but improvement must be seen. This could be a blessing in disguise. :bluescarf:

Hope he is given a proper chance and backing if he says it's needed.
We need a decent manager and not a cheap "yes man", so the Board needs to listen to what he says.
It's the sort of change that the club really needs.

At the end of the day we need to see how he can improve us, not whether he's a magician!

Martin, great post!

When Steve Morison came in there was a general malaise in the U-23 set up (and below) with players rarely, if ever, reaching the first team squad and getting more battered than the fish at Wez' world famous fish bar...! :laughing6:

What we have since seen after an initially slow start, is a change of style, a change of personnel, a change of focus, a change in expectation and a change end product

Several players have been drafted into the first team squad, some into the first team XI itself and aquitted themselves very well (to a point) with Rubin Colwill being the pick of the bunch for me (remembering Mark McGuiness was not our Academy product)

For me, and maybe a selfish reason for him not to get the top job, he has done a superb job and the next batch of players, Zimba, Isaak Davies (there are more) just to name a couple, are for me an even better group than the ones we currently have at our disposal

That alone, for our longer term future may be a reason to keep Steve Morison where he is?

They do say 'time, tide and ambition wait for no man' (okay I added the last bit fao the non-thinkers on here ;) ) and if he is relatively or wholly successful over the next three games, we might think the club would find him hard to ignore?

Based on nothing other than reading the politician's ever-changing comments, I believe that the club knew who they wanted, Chris Wilder, have been turned down, and now have a younger, fresher target in the frame

Is that Steve Morrison on a 3 game trial basis? I really don't know but he has 3 games now in which to change his and our footballing future and so far (without kicking a ball in anger) I'm impressed with what he says

Game back on...! :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

That point is really important, particularly if we appoint someone who will take a longer term view and look to develop the club as a whole.

Morison wasn't an instant success, it took time for him to develop the team, playing style, etc. I just hope that the fans show any ambitious appointment some patience if things don't go right straightaway.

Totally with you on this, Patience is needed :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Entirely in favour of giving Morrison a go. We know he is a good coach from the under 23 results this season. With the other coaches that have been mentioned we are having to take other people's word that they are good coaches and might make good managers.

The problem is managing a team is a much more difficult job than coaching a team it requires a much bigger skill set and perhaps less than a third of good coaches will make good managers. Simply no way of knowing if any of the names mentioned will be good enough to be a really good manager, to some extent its pot luck, and Morrison is as at least as good a bet as any of them probably better as have knows the players and paticularly the youth team.

You are right, of course, it is a risk.

However, I found it interesting that Morison clearly stated that Tom Ramasut does most of the "coaching" which would seem to indicate that Morison has already been operating in a manager-type role so may not be as big a jump as many of us presumed !
