Rae & McPhail

Wed Sep 15, 2010 6:15 pm

I've read some pretty scathing comments about Gavin Rae and Steve McPhail across the different messageboards today regarding how rubbish they are and how we should get rid of them. I'll admit I'm not they're greatest fan and neither of them would make it into my top team of all time, but let's not forget they have both been good servants of the club over past 4 or 5 seasons. OK, they might not have the flair and guile of Koumas or Drinkwater or, dare I say it ,Ledley, but these are two central midfielders that took us to the FA cup final in 2008, to the brink of the play-offs in 2009 and to the play-off final in 2010,so lets give the boys a break, they were the only options available last night and they were'nt the only ones who didn't put in a decent shift. :ayatollah:

I dont rate Rae at all, he is a box to box player who is useless in both boxes.

McPhail I rate highly, he isnt an eyecatcher so some people dont get or like his role but I think he makes us tick, keeps the ball moving. I think its close between him and Drinks to be alongside Witts and Oli in our best 11.

When we have everybody fit they will not get a look in so dont worry. :ayatollah:

I'd get rid of them both. They are mid level championship players at best and we have eyes way above that.

McPhail showed promise at Leeds but that fizzled out. Rae is just hopeless.

I agree with that.

Whilst they are both decent enough players there is no way they will ever take us to where we want to be.

Rae is a crock of shit. He may be a nice guy, but he can't be playing if we're pushing for automatic.

Rae can have a good day, but unfortunately for him and for us those days don't come around often enough. McPhail is class. Simple as.

Rae would be offloaded should we get promoted, but I'm not so sure about McPhail :?

Gavin Rae a man who is on 8k a week drives around in a car worth 100k and calls himself a footballer.

FFS he would not get in Roath Vet's team :old:

As soos as I hard the team line up I knew bar a miracle we'd lose.

Having now seen both King's goals, where was Rae? He should have picked up King from outside the box.

If he plays on saturday, then I fear irrespective of whether Bellamy or Bothroyd play we'll have difficulty in the pivotal area of the pitch.

Rae is a disaster for us. :x

Mcphail was good once when he had Scimeca doing the enforcing work, allowing him to play the ball from his armchair. he is too slow, has only one pass - sideways and is as likely to score as Feeney.

Jones should have got another dynamic midfielder in, Taiwo was a terrible signing, Wildig is a creative player, and he won't try Blake.

The longer Oli is out, the longer City will struggle.

And don't get me on not replacing Bothroyd with like for like. if he has to play Keogh up front on his own, at least tell his players to pass to his feet. :x

I like McPhail. He has taken his fair share of stick over the years but he is a decent footballer with a decent footballing brain who can still do a job at this level. I think he will struggle to get into the team this season as he hasnt got the energy and drive of Drinkwater, the box to box ability of Olofinjana or the flair and panache of Whittingham. But he's still a good man to have in our squad.

As for Rae - I thought the ball was nudged in by one of the hooves of the horses of the four horsemen of the apocolypse when he scored. He is the only man I know who could fall out of a boat and not hit water. Im gutted hes still on the payroll.

I love those comments about Rae above fair play!!! :ayatollah:

I am sick to death of going on about how woeful the parks player is but heres the simple question:

How can a good manager like Jonesy not see what 20,000 find glaringly obvious every game? :?

Mcphail is class but he needs the right partner in midfield, try playing against Internationals in the championship every week with Scotland's Michael Essien alongside him....What a fantastic career this prick has had with little footballing ability- It's staggering!

Whats frustrating is Rae can play when he wants to. Mcphail would be ok with Olly with him, but both Rae and Mcphail together NO WAY. :ayatollah:

As soon as Mcphail passes the ball to another one of our players he always goes looking for it he never gives the ball away thats what i like about him :ayatollah:

McPhail is only good when he has a better player alongside of him. Fortunately we don't have to worry about that this season unless of course our better players are injured. He makes some great passes but makes ten times as many that frankly belong in a lower division. Rae's only redeeming feature is he doesn't get injured as much as the rest.

I've got to find out where this other stadium he plays at is. No wonder he rarely delivers at the stadium I go to if he's moonlighting somewhere else. How many goals has this midfield dynamo scored? He bottles it everytime there's a battle on.

exactly give him time and space he looks a world beater, give my 9 yrold time and space he could make a pass.

Mcphail cant mix it in the middle when the going gets tough any opp manager just need to say "put him under pressure he will wobble and wont be in game".
