“ Sean Morrison / Tom Sang “

Mick McCarthy has revealed that Sean Morrison missed the loss to Reading at the weekend due to a thigh strain.

The captain has not looked himself this season and appeared to be battling fitness demons throughout this poor run of results.

MICK McCARTHY:

And McCarthy has said that, despite the player wanting to continue, it was best he sat out the Royals defeat.

"Sean has been carrying a bit of a thigh [injury]," McCarthy said after the game.

"He wanted to give it a go, as Sean would, but I said to him, 'I need everybody absolutely 100 percent today.'

"The last thing I would need is Sean Morrison trying it and ending up with a thigh strain or worse still a thigh tear and he's out for six to eight weeks. That would be ridiculous.

"It was better he missed it and he will get the recovery for the game in Swansea."

Tom Sang also missed the game against Reading as well as the midweek defeat by West Brom.

McCarthy said he was initially just left out of the squad for the Baggies game, but an aggravation to his toe, on which he had surgery in pre-season, also set him back.

"He went to have a scan on his toe. The toe he had an operation on," McCarthy said of Sang.

"Firstly it was just that he was left out, not everyone can be involved, but then he wasn't available this weekend anyway because of his toe."

Always try to be positive for our players where possible but I have to say that the defence looked quite solid minus SM. It was a poor Reading side though tbf.
As long as we don’t revert to a back 5
