Michael Flynn quits Newport County

Newport County boss Michael Flynn is poised to end his four years in charge of the club immediately after Saturday's League Two clash with Scunthorpe.
“I won’t be renewing, I want to think about where I go from here and my future.”

Annis our next manager :o

There was talk on radio wales call in last week about Flynn.
He had come out and critiscised some of his players about effort. And there were rumblings from fans about his tactics.

Where he goes from here - no one knows I guess. Maybe he just wants a break and a fresh challenge. He has worked miracles with them - but maybe it's best all round to say goodbye.

How much of a jump is it from where he is to the championship ? , dont think he has enough contacts personally - like Warnock did.

I think a loss on Saturday and Mick is a goner, losing 6 out of 7 games is sacking form.

Hmmmm, that's coincidental, or is it !!??

Wouldn't be my choice but he's young and has something to prove so if people really want a fresh approach then maybe he's worth a try. Can't be any worse than the last two appointments can he ?

Might be reading too much into this but it's a hell of a coincidence.

I actually wouldn’t mind him here but I can’t see it he’s not happy with a DOF at county so can’t see him putting up with Tan and Co meddling with the affairs of the team etc

Wouldn’t surprise me.

No compensation, cheap and has actually done a decent job with Newport on paper. I don’t know how big their budget is compared to others in that league, but 2 play off finals, a miracle escape from relegation and some excellent cup runs taking big scalps.

There would be better appointments, but could be worse ones as well.

really hope he doesn’t come here..
a lower league manager who has not really achieved much.. newport still a Div2 club, never quite finished the job.
good luck to him, but not for us.

Was he not in the directors box as a guest when NH was in charge?

Hell of a coincidence for me.

You can see some of the strange comments coming now.

Most people would welcome a younger appointment yet people are already saying he's not proven at this level so he's not good enough for us :?

At some point, if we're serious about wanting a culture change then we are going to have to take a gamble on somebody who is "on the way up" rather than just a short-term pair of safe hands.

As I said, he wouldn't be my first choice (I'd probably even rather Steve Morrison be given a go) but it would be quite exciting to see how a young guy would do.

If Bellamy was well, I would gamble on him but we're told he's not interested and he's probably not in the right place anyway.

What have we got to lose ? If we keep McCarthy we will be relegated anyway and there aren't many stellar candidates out there that would realistically come here.

That's a surprise, done a brilliant job there with virtually no money to spend. They were unlucky not to win the play-offs last season and go up to League One.

He's been linked with us many times and I'd be happy if we appointed him.

International break after Saturday so maybe it's possible he's about to replace Mick McCarthy and have a couple of weeks with the players who aren't on international duty.

Would make a lot of sense and I'd be happy if that happened. He's the right sort of appointment for our next manager.

Adds to the speculation.

I can't see anything coming of it with us.

Yes and they pile forward on the break.

Personally, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club

I don't watch much outside of us, but i recall in the FA cup that they had a monster up front. It may have been the only way to beat a bigger team.

The game is about speed these days, the big lads days is being ref'd out of the game. If Keiffer played his size like a 1990's players he'd be sent off within 20 mins every game.

Rog, I have a colleague closely connected to Cewnty and he just told me Flynn has just 'had enough' of the internal battles and confirmed (as above) he won't be signing a new contract

It also looks like he wants 'some time out' and the Cewnty sidecwould be 'very surprised and disappointed' if he were to end up at the CCS (no thought of compensation there, then? ;) )

Can't see it happening personally and think the timing is purely coincidental; but I've been wrong before and (unlike some) admitted it ;) :laughing6:

Chris can't see it happening myself but this is Cardiff City.
If we lose Saturday I can see MM being sacked, and this being city would not be surprised to see Flynn come in for the rest of the season, he was being looked at when Harris was on his way, but the board went with MM instead!

I would be a lot happier with flyn than the dinasour we have in place
i am sure watching newports giant killing against bigger teams he would not set the team UP against W.B.A. with an 8 man defence amd try and set up to attack so its a no brainer for me between the 2 and with the young guns at his disposal i am sure he would bring in something new
we could be in the bottom 3 after sat how long do we have to wait like the harris debacle.

I've watched them a lot and they play very direct

Liverpool play direct - just on the floor and with pace. Under Warnock we were direct in the early days, but again with ball on ground.

Remember though they also had a bog of a pitch.

He might be the right manager that gets us playing more football without the tippy tappy nonsense.

I think he's been a great manager at Newport with all things taken into consideration.
He seems very passionate about the game.
It wouldn't surprise me if the board have already lined him up as Mick's replacement.
It could mean a change to our style of play for the better; after all, this squad of players aren't going anywhere else in the immediate future.
Also, It couldn't be much worse than the current set up!

Chris as I posted in another thread nothing will surprise me regarding City, they were interested in Flynn before they appointed MM which at the time was someone with more experience that we needed. But it is earler in this season than the last one, so never say never. It will all depend on Saturdays result, which I think will be a win for city, that is if MM does change formation tactics and personel. Then we have the jacks game :ayatollah:

Could you imagine the first meeting where Vincent (as Neil Warnock always referred to him) tries to attach the strings to Annis' arms and legs...? :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

I think you all got it wrong, I’m thinking (hoping) MM is going to Newport once the position comes available.
