Your team for Reading?

Wed Sep 29, 2021 1:12 pm

Who would you pick and how would you line-up if you were in charge?

Given our lack of wingers I've put Sang at Right wing, Someone who is use to playing on the right. Give us some attacking width. Get balls into the box for Moore. Hopefully Ralls will be fit otherwise It'd have to be a swap for Vaulks, lots of ability to get box to box there with him and Bacuna. McGuinness did himself no harm last night. We need at least 1 CB willing to pass the ball out from the back. I've not been convinced by Phillips so gone with Smithies.

I actually really like the set up you’ve gone for there. The only changes I’d make are dropping Ng and putting Sang at RB. Then move Colwill out to the right, with Bacuna being the advanced of a midfield 3 with Pack and Ralls. I think Pack’s ball retention is better than any other midfielders.
If he is still here by the weekend then surely he has to go away from the 5 at the back because it’s obvious for everyone to see it’s not working.

I'd play a modern style 4-3-3

Phillips

Sang McGuinness Flint Ng

Bacuna Vaulks Pack

Colwill Moore Giles

Only one of Flint/Morrison can play in my view and whilst Morrison is a legend and usually one of our best players I am not sure he has been so good this season.

I would definitely be looking in our pool of young CM's for a defensive midfielder who can break up play and an attacking midfielder who can create chances.

If Ralls is fit he would replace Vaulks.

Do we have any right wingers? We are desperately crying out for a bit of balance. Giles one side and ? The other.

Not buying Colwill can play there (more of a 10) Sang is probably a better option like OP States. I'd be happy with that team but can see Pack in over Bacuna.

Nowhere near it as mick will have 6 defenders on pitch with 4 defensive midfielders and Phillip's given the task of scoring from own half....

Very good opening post. I like the look of your selection, but I might not have Colwill in from the start. There is one major positive in your selection. You have ommitted Marlon Pack. For me MMs reliance on MP epitomises all that is wrong with City. He may be a lovely guy but hi is defensive, slow (strolls around pointing at others) and one dimensional. More often than not we play far better when ( on the odd occasion) he does not play.
Sadly all the posters after Neokutai simply put him back in the lineup :banghead: :banghead:

This looks good. 3 potential changes.

Pack in for Bacuna - It would lose some energy but Packs job here should be to pick the ball up from the centre backs and find passes into the middle or out wide. Or I’d put Sang in here.
Colwill - would be tempted to put Bowen in ahead of him. Not sure that I have seen enough from Colwill yet.
Sang - if he was to replace Bacuna, then would bring in Evans from U23. Not sure that he is a winger but looks like he has pace to get in behind.

The good thing about this formation is that it strikes a better balance and gives us options through the middle and wide, without throwing our MM natural defensive tendencies. It’s what should have happened last night.

Agree...Flint is giving 100% since coming back and has bagged a few goals ...definitely a starter for me

Bacuna advanced doesn’t work.

Swap Denham for Pack that is too attack minded.

Nobody has mentioned the bench and playing any of the youngsters that are playing well at the moment .
To give some of them some encouragement and some first team time would really be good. so come on Mick give them some encouragement. :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

That's how I'd line up with Flint starting over morrison. Hes looked well off the pace this season. Id forget about the back 5 and pack the midfield with a high intensity press.
