MICK McCARTHY: “I SHARE THE FANS FRUSTRATION”

'That's a different ball game' Mick McCarthy issues response to Cardiff City fans' boos and chants after West Brom drubbing

The Bluebirds supporters let their voices be heard during another abysmal performance by the hosts against the Baggies

Wednesday 29th September 2021

Mick McCarthy believes the fans are well within their rights to voice their discontent after a number of Cardiff City supporters booed, jeered and chanted at the manager during their 4-0 hammering by West Brom.

The Bluebirds racked up their fourth straight loss in a row and shipped their ninth goal in four days as the Baggies ran riot in the Welsh capital.

A vociferous contingent of travelling fans began to sing, "You're getting sacked in the morning", before a section of Cardiff fans joined in. Some Bluebirds fans booed the chants.

But there was no hiding the boos and jeers at half time, full time and even at points in the game when long balls went awry or the rare attacks broke down.

And McCarthy said he could understand the fans' frustrations.

"I want to turn it around and make sure we do better," he said after the match.

"People singing that at me... the away fans, that doesn't bother me one bit, when the home fans start doing it, that's a different ball game all together.

"I can't say we don't deserve it at the minute, them jeering us, because we've not played well enough.

He added: "I fully understand them. I have no complaints about the fans at all.

"They come here and to support us and watch us and expect better performances.

"I share their frustration as well.

"I can't complain about [the boos] because of the results we've had and the last two performances.

"So I'm not going to say it's wrong or unfair because it's not.

"But I get up and go to work and work as hard as I can to put it right. It's what I do and it's what I've always done, it's all I've known."

The Cardiff supporters are understandably devoid of hope at the minute, given City's recent run of form.

But McCarthy has said that he will do everything he possibly can to try and architect some sort of upsurge in fortunes.

"My message is that everybody, myself first and foremost, will be working as hard as we can to turn it around.

"And so will the players. The players are bitterly disappointed in there as you'd expect.

"They feel that it's not good enough and we've got to turn it around."

The manager is not new to this game, of course, he has some 44 years of professional football experience in the bank.

But feeling the heat from the stands is never nice no matter how battle-hardened you might be.

However, the Bluebirds manager hopes that his years of experience will stand him in good stead amid the most challenging time of his Cardiff City reign.

When asked if his years in the game will help him manage this tough time, he replied: "Absolutely. Well, I hope so, that's for sure.

"If experience and all the games I've had doesn't give me something now, at this time, then I would be struggling.

"But we will carry on and keep coming in to try and turn it around."

Playing two 6ft centre backs as wing backs is the sort of tactic’s a Sunday league pub manager would come up with after 10 pints on a Saturday night!!!

Simple not good enough Mick, do the decent thing and walk

And we pay up the 3 years left on his contract plus TC money ?

Maybe the money should come off the salary of the muppets who gave him the contract in the first place - Dalman & Choo

Five big lumps in defence.
They still scored goals as easy as cutting a knife through butter.
No creativity in mid-field.
A team lacking pace and know-how.
What hope have the strikers got?
A squad with very little confidence including some promising young players being taught football the wrong way!
It's not often I can say in my 40 or so years of watching City that I was not looking forward to this match.
After 18 months of seeing no live football, I was as enthusiastic as ever to attend matches this season.
However, as each match has come and gone, my enthusiasm is spiralling in deep decline.
Yesterday felt like going to a funeral and let's face it; the team were WELL AND TRUELY BURIED!

I am simply a long term supporter of this club and have no easy solutions to the massive problems we have found ourselves with.
However, I am inclined to agree with the opinions of pundits like Jason Perry.
I just wish the board would listen to knowledgeable ex-players like Jason and try to move in the right direction for a change. :old:

Definitely get peed off with the performance and some of the effort or lack of in some cases but booing just does not do it for me. I would rather see a reaction in the next game, hopefully against Reaging :ayatollah: :bluebird:
