Lee Tomlin absent

Cardiff City posted a training gallery from their session on Tuesday and there were a few things eagle-eyed fans appear to have spotted.

Firstly, there appeared to be no Lee Tomlin out on the grass.

The playmaker has not played a minute of competitive football since October 2020, almost a year ago, and has featured only in under-23s matches and pre-season friendlies.

The near 33-year-old tweaked his hamstring after the 2-0 pre-season win over Newport County and is yet to feature in a matchday squad this season.

Then Tomlin was absent through an unknown illness, followed by a cold just before the international break.

It was hoped Tomlin would be back in training by now and playing for City's U23’s today.

While it was hoped he would be back soon enough, there was no sign of him at The Vale in Cardiff City's training gallery on their website.

Tomlin has now only started 32 games for Cardiff in over four and a half years, this is Tomlins 5th season at the club where his contract runs out next June.

Get rid of the money grabber cut our losses let’s be fair he’s not going to play. Shocking attitude from a professional . If we done that in a job not turning up we’d be sacked on the spot . Good riddance to him

Spot on, thankfully I don't think we'll give him the time of day when it comes to another contract negotiation.

"Isaac Vassell is self-isolating," the Bluebirds boss said.

"He did his thigh two weeks ago but now he is self-isolating because he is a close contact of someone who had Covid.

Tomlin is rightly getting a load of stick but what about Vassell, injured again? Goodness sake just how fragile is this bleeding fairy

When my missus was in a Coma, in Malta, in 2016 - when she got back her Employers 1st Central Car Insurance Company terminated her contract because she was not in a fit state to work in an office in Manchester.

Why should this be any different for Professional Footballers?

There is no benefit in keeping him at the club. Get an Occupational Therapist involved. If there is no significant return to work likely the club should have grounds to terminate and save themselves a heap of money in the process - or, in the alternative, make him an offer to come off the payroll now.

There are employees at the Club, individuals who do actually need the money, who are losing their jobs and livelihoods and people like Tomlin are picking up a huge salary - Its just wrong on so many levels!

Depends what's written in the contract.

All types of different business will have completely different terms in their staff contracts.

But I agree with your point.

No chance he will take a pay-off which is less than he'll earn until the end of the season.

Similar thing happened with Sunderland, saw it on the Netflix programme "Sunderland 'Til I Die." For anyone that hasn't seen it, I highly recommend it. Perfect lesson on how not to run a football club or a business for that matter.

They tried to pay off Jack Rodwell who was on good money but never fit enough to play, but he had no interest in it.

Exactly the same situation we have with Tomlin.

True City fans will ALWAYS support their players. But not these 2 anymore. Huge salaries and always injured. What must their teammates think really? And people who work really hard for low income must be upset/fuming. Bet you MM is but is biting his lip because he can’t do anything about it. Think what we could do with this money

terrible about your wife and hope she is much better now...
but injuries playing or training are at work doing your job so not really the same thing... yes an OT can say nowt wrong and then another make the opposite claim.. and paying him off...why would he accept anything less than full.... ?
myself ive accepted it for what it is and would now prefer him to be away eating and in doing so reducing the chances of a contract anywhere after this one ends rather than being possibly disruptive here...

My opinion for what its worth is he will negotiate to move on in the January transfer window, milking his contract to the full.

Id certainly get him back at the club to be assessed though independently.
If he refuses stop his pay.

What a waste of a talent, but he obviously does not care one iota.

There was a bit of confusion over Tomlin's injury; but club medical staff cleared it up with an easy diagnosis when they pointed out it had to be the groin, as he (Tomlin) would need some balls for it to be anything else... ;)

An absolute disgrace now and the manager isn't defending him; far from it...

hypothetical question....
9 games to go we are in the drop zone a few points adrift.... Mick gets his head around bringing LT on who performs as he did for Harries after lockdown....we survive.... how many want to give that version of LT another year.... ? i wouldnt but i do think the majority might well....

There probably would be some fans who would want him to be offered a new contract and would shout loudly about it.

However, there is no way the club would do that although he (Tomlin) might con some other club into giving him a deal of some sort.

Mind you even if he does return to the amazing player we all know it is very unlikely he will get another lucrative contract anywhere. Paid as you play will be the best he will get.
