Can expiring contracts be a blessing in disguise?

Fri Sep 10, 2021 8:11 am

I've seen a lot of people commenting on the issue that we have so many first team players who are in their final year of their contract as a point of concern. I'm just wondering if anyone sees it from the other side of the coin that maybe it could mean many of our first team players having to raise their performances in their 'contract' year in the way Lee Tomlin did. Could this mean a ultra competitive first team squad environment as they are battling it out for contract extensions. It's my guess that the players who are in their final year wouldn't get more money elsewhere then what Cardiff are currently paying them.

I also think apart from Alex Smithies, Josh Murphy and Lee Tomlin who I think all don't have any chance at getting a new contract with us (so they will be the 3 high earners who will 100% leave in my view) the rest of the expiring contract players all have a chance at getting a extension and I think the rest could all get a contract extension if their performances merits it.

If players don't get their extension because their performances didn't deserve it then it makes room for more new players to rebuild a younger team team next season.

What's everyone's thoughts on the contract situation. Do people see it as a positive or an area of concern?

its a strange year mate not just for ourselves....battling it out though ? i dont think we have enough seasoned pros to be battling it out with anyone ..we only have 13 players who have 50 apps at this level, 2 of which are keepers and 2 of which are tomlin and vassell.
