THE MOUNTAIN FACING CARDIFF CITY IN 2021-2022

Following this summer's transfer window City are left with only 13 seasoned first team players, though one of them (Brown) has played virtually all his football in Scotland. Another two due to their injury records (Vassell & Tomlin) will probably have little impact on the season. Our loan player from Wolves (Giles) could be recalled in Jan 22 whilst the rest of our squad is made up of a dozen youngsters.

Better start praying for no injuries and suspensions.

I wanted some youth coming through and always have but this is on Tans command and very cheap wages £400 a week, but as the OP says and Big Mick himself he is very happy and has all positions covered. So we should never ever expect MICK to moan this season :thumbright: :thumbright:

I'm personally more than okay with this squad. Fans need to readjust their expectations the investment this season has been non existent so to expect anything more than 8th-12th finish would be daft in my opinion.

For a long time we've needed to see the benefits of our academy so I'm pleased to see them finally be given the chance. Judge them over the full season not their first few games and we'll see if we have any genuine players on our hands.

My only worry is next summers end of contracts. The club need to get busy with those players coming to an end of their contract.

I have to say though 12 in one season , we must be the first Championship club ever to produce 12 at once , just amazing and taken back by it.

So clubs produce one or two or max three, fair play this is incredible if they are all Championship standard.

I think you will also find we only actually brought through a few of these players from kids.

There are in the squad most of them as they are on £400 a week.

We also need to put the record straight many are not our Accademy players, Tom Sang Bolton/ Man United then released, Joel Bagan Southampton then released etc

Glen Williams writes what Dalman tells him and fans are brainwashed in to believing highest quality from our Accademy.

Players like MARK McGUINNESS, are not our Accademy and was released by Arsenal without making one appearance, let’s hope he Championship first team quality.

I will be over the moon if we produce 3 quality Accademy players :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Also every season now we say we are looking to consolidate, it’s time to be thinking higher or else their won’t be 13,000 season ticket holders next season it will be 8,000-9,000.

Big Mick keeps repeating how happy he is, so it’s got to be at least too 6 :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Let’s enjoy the season and believe in what Mick says he believes in :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I think my main concern is the lack of wingers. Giles is the only real wide player we have. Not a lot of pace up top either but with Moore pretty much certain to start most games that’s not too bad.
Top half for me this season. Then big earners like Murphy, Tomlin etc will go and hopefully we can build more of a squad.
Let’s give Mick a chance too. Rumours were it was either him or Paul Cook and he’s struggling at Ipswich so could be worse. All just my opinions :)

Anyone that thinks the likes of bagan and Sang have been brought through the youth ranks are obviously just uneducated. But on the other hand you've got to give it to the scouts or recruitment that are finding these young players who are released by other clubs. Zimba being another one who looks like he could have something about him. Also Joe ralls is the obvious example of finding young talent from elsewhere.

For me we are where we are at the minute regarding ambition and investment. Whether we're in a position to invest or quite simply the hierarchy dont want to. It's completely out of our and Mccarthys hands. You can't expect Mick to come out and say this squad I have is dogsh*t at the beginning of a new campaign.

Yes let's enjoy it, it's a breath of fresh air for me. Beats watching the likes of Alex revell, Stuart O'Keefe and Greg Halford trotting around. :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Agree with all that. Next season could be the interesting one.
Just imagine if we managed to squeeze into the prem this year… I wonder how that would affect the plans.

Not knowing that much about the Financial Fair Play Regulations , but knowing that we are still committed to some very high wages, quite a lot with little payback (Tomlin and Vassell for example), is this not one of the main reasons that we are constrained this season?

The positive is that there's not one player in that younger group who hasn't shown they have the potential to step up to the mark...

If we have the right mind-set, this couldbe the start of something good and maybe Mick McCarthy (with them every day) sees that too...? :ayatollah:

I see Rubin Colwill & Joel Bagan def making Championship standard at least :thumbright: :bluebird:

I need to see much much more of the others :bluebird:

Be wonderful to see us get promoted with all these young players.

We never know if we did we’d probably stay up and other younger players would be eager to join us.

We’d also have other clubs sniffing around trying to buy them but at least hopefully they would play football without the shackles on and prove themselves.

I’m hopeful and looking forward to several of them making the grade :ayatollah:

I’d like to see that lad Zimba from the under 23’s brought into the first team.

Many Championship sides are doing similar bring their youth players into the first team. We might be the only one bringing as many as 8 but I have faith in them and wouldn't describe the challenge as a 'mountain' although they must learn to adapt quickly.

Realistically it will probably only be Bagan, Colwill, Harris and Sang that see regular football this season. Even brown is probably behind Mcguinnes now, at CB anyway. I cant see any of the other players getting many minutes. It is not this season I am worried about. Next season will be struggle and if the club get it wrong I can see us struggling nearer the bottom than challenging near the top. Flint, Morrison, Pack, Ralls and Vaulks out of contract. Whether people rate them or not doesnt matter, they do make the spine of the team and replacing their experience on a budget is going to be difficult.

Re: THE MOUNTAIN FACING CARDIFF CITY IN 2021-2022

Also worth bearing in mind that all of Colwill, Bagan, Sang, Harris , Brown had a decent run in the side last season.

Same side did really well after Mick came in and none of those players let us down.

Not like they are unused kids.

I think a few of the others might get into the squad at times, but I don’t expect any others to be regulars unless we have a really bad run of injuries.

Worth noting Colwill’s brother is coming through the ranks and Matondo’s brother is playing for Wales under 17 side today along with 2 other City players

We’ve got 5 in the Wales under 21 squad too, so plenty more coming through

It's the right time to throw in the Development squad.

Practically all the clubs including one that was relegated are going to struggle this season. Its a good time to start the transition.

This is exactly what I said last week, we have been needing to transition for a while, and to be able to start that process, whilst in this division, for me is spot on, no good waiting to drop down a division if possible,I stick to my prediction of 10th, but anything is possible in this division as we well know now.i am exiteded an nervous at the same time tbh, lets see how we go, and as long as we not facing relegation battle, it will mean the kids are alright!! My worry is these youngsters will be coming into a lumpball/sky ball team. Will they be able to influence a change in style?. Alternatively will they be dragged down into playing the same way?
