Sean Morrison?

He hasn’t trained today. He wouldn’t have trained anyway.

He is a bit sore, but we will see how he is. Let’s hope he is OK.

McCarthy

Optimistic?

Yeah. I think with guys like Sean, a warrior, you’re always optimistic.

His knee was sore, he is still feeling it, but he has another day to recover.

Any other injury worries from this week?

"No. We are doing OK actually, we’re all right.

If I had a list I’d have brought it with me.

A few bumps and bruises but nothing to keep anyone out.

Mick McCarthy expected Lee Tomlin in training this week, he hasn't been in yet but hopes he will be back training tomorrow.

No real news on Tomlin, Vassell is closer to a full comeback."

MICK McCARTHY:

You were at Ashton Gate last week, what did you make of Bristol City?

They started really well. They hadn’t won there for a while.

They should have been in front, a real energy and a real force for 10 minutes.

They had two or three good chances, then they didn’t and you could just see Swansea get on top.

I told TC I could see Swansea scoring.

If they start the same way against us, they will be a handful that’s for sure.

Said he had to speak with him this week over recent speculation. Says KM has desire to play in the Premier League - but so do all of his players!

This is a derby for Cardiff..

"I know it is.

It’s always good to get that out the way!

When I am playing against them I hate the lot of them… I’m just supposed to hate these teams a little bit more!

I understand derbies, I’ve been around long enough now.

This is a big one for us."

Crowds are back for this?

Yeah, better still!

I expect they’ll bring a decent following and our crowd’s been fantastic. They were brilliant on Saturday.

MICK McCARTHY:

Crossed paths with Pearson a few times?

As a player and manager… he is a formidable opponent.

He was very powerful as a defender. He didn’t ask for any favours and didn’t give any.

I’ve found his teams have been the same. Purposeful, pragmatic, hard to play against.

I expect he demands that first and foremost, like I do.

His career at Leicester, he kept them up and they have gone on to great things.

He was the one when they were down and out, dead and buried and he kept them in the league.

MICK McCARTHY:

Your plans are in place then?

I’d be lying to say… well, you can have plans. But the best-placed plans in the market often go astray.

The other person is in the same boat as me. If someone signs one of my players and he goes, the other team will be reluctant as well.

So, we’ll see.

MICK McCARTHY:

Still not had a bid for Moore? Had to talk with him?

I spoke to him the other night.

I said, let’s be clear, if Kieffer gets a chance to play in the Premier League, he will want to do it.

If he doesn’t there’ll be something wrong. I wouldn’t want that type of player. They all want to do that.

If that happens, I would be absolutely devastated for me, the fans and the club. But I’d be delighted for him.

I signed him for Ipswich and then he went to Barnsley and he has made himself a better version, so he deserves his success.

But it’s all speculation at the minute.

If it doesn’t happen, he is here and everyone loves him.

I’ve been that player who everyone is speculating about. It’s kind of exciting and it can be difficult to keep your mind on the job.

But I don’t think we’ll have that problem, because he’s top class, a great lad.

International window, are you on pins?

I’m not bothered about the internationals going away.

That’s great for them. I always wish them well, especially if they get their caps.

My only concern is Bristol City.

MICK McCARTHY:

In your transfers, how did it leave you, did it get in your head?

I was suspended at Barnsley and I got left out of the team and Man City came in to me and I couldn’t wait to get there!

It was in the old Second Division, but it was Man City and I was buzzing.

Newcastle had been in my ear and Arthur Coxe was the manager, he had been speaking to me, I wasn’t playing.

It was Newcastle or Manchester City, I was buzzing!

That was a step up for me, when I went to City. Then when Celtic came in for me, wonderful! The feeling it gives you when a big club comes in for you, the same with Lyon. It was fabulous.

I came back to Millwall because I wanted to play in a World Cup.

It was exciting, you get the butterflies.

I did 270-odd games at Barnsley and it was my time to move, the same with City. It does get the juices flowing when someone wants to sign you.

I understand the buzz you get.

Speculation, need to keep performance high?

I can’t even gauge it. It wasn’t speculation for me, it was true!

Someone would slip it at the bottom of the sports page.

It wasn’t the same clamour for information.

Transfer window, what are your feelings going into the last weekend?

"All emotions go through my mind. It annoys me at times. People talk about things they don’t know about, they speculate.

It annoys me that we’ve got a player that apparently loads of people want… We’ve got four or five days left and I’ve not heard anything!

What can I do about it? The speculation.

I don’t worry at all. What I continue to think about, if this happens can we do this? You’re always planning just in case."

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy issues update on Wolves target Kieffer Moore as he reveals transfer chat

The Bluebirds striker is reportedly attracting transfer interest from the Premier League outfit

Thursday 26th August 2021

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy has revealed he held talks with Kieffer Moore this week over the alleged transfer interest from Wolves.

The transfer window is set to close at 11pm on August 31, with Cardiff having wrapped up all their business early in the summer.

However, in recent days it was reported that Wolves were preparing to lodge a bid of around £7m for Cardiff's main striker.

If that happened, McCarthy said it would drive him "bonkers" as he would have such little time to find a replacement for him.

But, as we near the end of the window, the Bluebirds boss insisted he has still not been contacted over the potential transfer of the Wales international.

MICK McCARTHY:

"We’ve got a player that apparently loads of people want… but we’ve got four or five days left and I’ve not heard anything!" McCarthy said.

It can be just as destabilising for the player as it can be for the club, no doubt.

McCarthy spoke at length about the experiences he had as a player and the feelings of glee and excitement which course through you when a top club are interested in signing you.

So, with the prospect of a Severnside derby with Bristol City in Cardiff's crosshairs this weekend, the manager decided to pull Moore to one side to ensure he was fully focussed on the task in hand.

MICK McCARTHY:

"I spoke to Kieffer the other night," McCarthy said in his pre-derby press conference.

"Look let’s be clear about it, if Kieffer gets a chance to play in the Premier League, he will want to do it.

"If he doesn’t there’ll be something wrong. If he didn't, I wouldn’t want that type of player. You always want to be the best version of yourself you can be.

"If that happens, I would be absolutely devastated for me, the fans and the club. But I’d be delighted for him.

"I signed him from Forest Green for £20,000 and then he went to Barnsley for about £1m and he has made himself a better version of what he was when he came to us, so he deserves his success.

"But it’s all speculation at the minute. So my message to him is to just keep your mind on what you're doing at the club.

"If it doesn’t happen, he is here and everyone loves him and want him to be part of it.

"I’ve been that player who everyone is speculating about. It’s kind of exciting and it can be difficult to keep your mind on the job.

"But I don’t think we’ll have that problem with Kieffer because he’s different class, he's a great lad."

The Welshman has one goal so far this campaign, which came in the 2-0 victory up at Blackpool.

Cardiff, and McCarthy, will no doubt be hoping he is here to add to that tally this weekend and for the remainder of the campaign.
