MY VIEW: CARDIFF CITY V BRIGHTON

Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:55 pm

For me, this was a decent game in which the Bluebirds were only outclassed where it really mattered; in front of goal

The first half opened with City the brighter side and almost going into the lead with some great movement between Collins, the impressive Murphy and NG

Indedd, City were well on top when Brighton burst through for their first real attack and scored a pretty good goal

City huffed and puffed and were trying hard without the credit of a goal to their name

HALF-TIME: CARDIFF CITY 0 - 1 BRIGHTON & HA

The second half started with City having the best movement but Brighton looking like they had an extra gear when/if required

I actually enjoyed the way City played and put up a valiant performance and there were glimpses of a goal for the home side that sadly didn't occur before Brighton snatched their second and effectively killed the game as a competition

Moore and Colwill came on and made a difference but again, no goals came our way

My overall impression is that a mixed Bluebird side put up a good show against Premier League Brighton and were only second best in front of goal

The performance was decent and with some glimpses of what young D'Almeida can do, it augs well for the future

A decent game and not disapponted at all tonight... :ayatollah:

FINAL SCORE: CARDIFF CITY 0 - 2 BRIGHTON & HA

A balanced, fair summary of the game. Neither side were at full strength but Brighton still had a lot more talent on the pitch showing the gulf between the Premier League and Championship in terms of squads. I really hope Morrison just has a knock as he is pivotal in that back line. The jury is out on Wintle. I am not sure what he brings to the midfield that we don't already have?

Spot on Chris :thumbright:

Sadly we were outclassed by a second string Brighton team, but it was entertaining.

Second-half they let us have more of the ball, but we did hardly anything.

Watched first half in Canton, 2nd half Ninian Stand.

I enjoyed the game tonight and you cannot argue that the best side won but we were in the game until the moment Will Vaulks experienced a nightmare 10 seconds which gifted them the 2nd goal. Add to that Collins missing what let's face it was a sitter from a great Murphy cross and they were out of touch. Flint again had one cleared off the line so it could have been very different.

Thought Ng had a good game at left wing back and at times Josh Murphy looked the player we know he can be. Bowen and D'Almeida also showed we have some very good youngsters at the club.

Problem we had was the back 3 were caught spread too far apart on several occasions with a ball over the top to a quicker striker to chase. Once Mozza went off the back 3 seemed to settle with Denham.

2nd half was way better than the 1st and very unlucky not to score. To be honest the score line didn’t bother me tonight, win or lose it was all about getting back down the stadium for me

A few points for me. BHA scored both goals during our periods of pressure and against the run of play at the time.

We started both Halves well.

This is the most route one I have seen us play, although the few occasions we did pass the ball around we did it quite nicely.

Youngsters didn't make us any worse, none of them were outstanding by any means, but Bowen just about held his own and D'Almeida showed glimpses. Denham, after a nervy start did ok.

We can put one youngster in the first team and I think they'll be ok. Tonight we ended up with 4 kids and it showed, individually, they were ok. As a unit, they don't function to championship quality.

Flint was MOM, Nelson had a mare as did Vaulks. Wintle anonymous for the majority. Won some midfield battles but never got us moving forward.

BHA could have easily moved up a gear.

Had we played anywhere near our best competitive team we could have had a right go at them.

Collins, as much as I love his effort can't keep missing sitters from underneath the cross bar.

All in all, there were patches of half decent play. Brighton cpuld nullify our main threat and we didn't have any real clue how to open them up any other way.

I thought Brighton were superb to be honest and really enjoyed watching them - I didn't know a single one of their players but there was some class on show last night. For us, thought that D'Almeieda looked the pick of the youngsters after a nervous start. Denham also had a good game against quick and mobile strikers. Wintle for me was anonymous and I am at a loss to see what Josh Murphy did to get so much praise for. I thought he jogged around aimlessly, failed to beat his man most times and seemed totally disinterested. Collins really should have scored and he needs a goal so as not to lose confidence as he certainly worked hard. It says a lot that depsite them being far superior in every department, we remained in the game and had chances to at least level it up and whilst a defeat was a shame, there were some good signs regarding the younger players and the passion we showed in trying to get back in the game in the second half.
