Mick McCarthy: ' Marlon Pack '

When asked if Pack had his hands bandaged to aid Cardiff City's long throw.

Mick McCarthy replied:

"No, he got cuts on them!

"He was brilliant today, Marlon Pack. He was outstanding.

"Even at the very end of the game there he was nicking it off them and managed to have a shot.

"It would have been nice for him to score, for the reward for the work he's been putting in, I think he's been terrific.

"But it's not for throw-ins, no."

Pack received huge praise once again from fans at the ground and on social media after his strong start to the season continued.

Morrison's header from Pack's throw-in means Cardiff have now scored all eight league goals via headers this season.

Aden Flint was at the double before Morrison's header thanks to two pinpoint crosses from substitute Ryan Giles.

But McCarthy said there is no secret to Cardiff's set-piece success. Like Cardiff's game plan as a whole, McCarthy believes the best formula is to keep things simple.

"We make sure we make good movement. There's nothing really clever about them," McCarthy explained.

"We have good headers of the ball and good deliveries.

"We put it in areas you're gonna score from.

"You can work all these short corners and they look fabulous when they come off.

"But if we've got deliveries like Marlon Pack, Joe Ralls and Gilo, and the power in the air we've got, why wouldn't you just put it there to let them head it? That's what we try to do."

It certainly seems to be working, that's for sure. An unbeaten start to the campaign means Cardiff are keeping pace with the league's big hitters.

And with Morrison, Flint and Co in situ, the Bluebirds' own big hitters will have a crucial part to play if that is to remain the case throughout the course of the season.

For years I have wondered if we have a specialist 'long throw' coach ;)

Being serious Marlon Pack has had a brilliant start to the season and his long throws are just a very small but very effective part of his game.
