MY VIEW: BIG MICK STARTED WITH AN ALL WELSH FRONT THREE & IT

Sat Aug 21, 2021 3:53 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

BIG MICK STARTED WITH AN ALL WELSH FRONT THREE & IT PAID OFF WITH A 3-1 WIN AT HOME TO MILLWALL BUT GILES COMING ON MADE A HELL OF A DIFFERENCE :bluebird: :bluebird:

ALL 8 GOALS THIS SEASON ALL HEADED BY CARDIFF CITY :bluebird: :bluebird:

These points are being won no matter how dire some games are.

Striker James Collins was dropped to the bench.

Giles coming on made a hell of a difference :bluebird: :bluebird:

So far this season undefeated and 3 wins & 2 draws :thumbright: :bluebird:

Another fairly dire game, but three points and a win is a win :bluebird: :bluebird:

The last seven games between the clubs have ended in draws.

First-Half: End to end stuff from both clubs, Cardiff just edging it :bluebird:

Second-Half:

Not much between them, fairly boring.

63rd min: Bacuna and Giles on. Colwill and Harris off.

CARDIFF CITY v MILLWALL
H-T 0-0
Crowd 18,160
Away Support (770)

Sat Aug 21 Cardiff 3 Millwall 1 :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: Crowd 18,160 Away Support 770

Cardiff City: Phillips; Morrison, Flint, Nelson; Sang, Pack, Ralls, Bagan; Colwill, Moore, Harris.

Subs: Smithies, Ng, Vaulks, Bacuna, Giles, Collins, Murphy.

Cardiff created the two best chances both by Kieffer Moore :bluebird: :bluebird:

Over all fairly even, Cardiff edging it :bluebird:

H-T 0-0

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-0 Millwall (Flint 66) :bluebird: :bluebird:
GOOOOOAL! Aden Flint again!

Oh what a delicious delivery by Ryan Giles. He has a free-kick on the far side and he plonks it on Flint's head at the back post and he, obviously, steers it home!

GOAL! Cardiff City 2-0 Millwall (Flint 70) :bluebird: :bluebird:
GOAL! Flint header again!

Remarkable. Giles with the ball on the left and he floats one to the back stick - who is there? Aden Flint. That's his fourth in two games!

Amazing.

Flint booked for ankle tapping a Millwall player while on the ground. Cheeky one but probably needed to be made to stop the break.

72nd min
What a save!

Scott Malone ghosts into the box and hammers one at goal, but Phillips sticks out a left paw and denies him!

GOAL! Cardiff City 2-1 Millwall (Afobe 76)
Goal! Benik Afobe slots home, courtesy of a deflection, and it's game back on!

Bit of a goalmouth scramble there and Afobe was the beneficiary, swinging ad lef at one and the deflection wrong-footed Phillips.

Millwall hit Bar!

Oh just inches away from an equaliser there.

Jed Wallace does well to skin Bagan and send in a cross to the back post. Malone comes in and hammers it at goal, but it pings off the crossbar and out into open play again!

GOAL! Cardiff City 3-1 Millwall (Morrison 83) :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:
GOAL! Morrison heads home!

Marlon Pack launches a long throw-in and the skipper nods home at the near post. Easy as you like.

It didn't work with the Welsh front three though. We need to be patient with Colwill and Harris is better as an impact player. The game turned on Giles and his quality with balls in to the box. Could have finished a draw but Malone missed. Lots of work still to do but a great start to the season now.

Agree a decent start and unbeaten.
Could easily have been a draw, fine margins but thankfully the Plymuff boy finished them off with the 3rd.
Come on City.

I don't agree that it was a poor game, could have been more goals than there were.

Not much happened in the first half, granted. But there were four goals and both teams hit the woodwork as well.

Flint, Pack and Giles stood out again. They've been our three best players this season - even most people hate Pack and Flint most of the time.

I think Mick's gambled paid off and we deserved to win. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Harris and Colwill offer us something completely different and did well today.

Collins unlucky not to score at the end.

I also think we deserved to win.

Eight points from our first four games, and still unbeaten. 6th in the league and only two points off top. Also into the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Considering loads of people on here were saying we'd struggle, it's been a very good start.

Some people, who haven't replied to this topic yet I see, will have to find something else to moan about over the next few days.

I expect it will be the catering or the digital ticketing, even though both worked absolutely fine for me in Canton.

The first half was very poor and had a 0-0 written all over it.
Giles made a hell of a difference and the game actually got exciting after that!

The front three didn’t really work but ultimately has given rest to other players.Poor quality first half but still Moore could have had two.
Second half much better and deserved the win.
Giles made a huge difference .

I did say we need a winger giles or murphy and so it seemed
why change whats working and if you have a couple of large oaks playing for you use the crosses simple

1st half terrible but 2nd half was exciting and we full deserved to win,Giles is some player not sure about cowil and bagan

That's a spot on analogy, Paul...

I called for Colwill and Harris to start this game and they both worked their fresh legs well, which allowed Mick McCarthy to send on the artillery duo of Collins and Giles; and it worked a treat with the latter providing both of Flint's goals and having a hand in Morrison's

A great end to the game and it's rare we can laugh off some missed late opportunities to improve our goal difference :D

Do think Murphy and definitely Giles would've been better starting options wide of Moore. Both rapid and can get in behind. Crosses, corners and throw ins galore then.

Harris and Colwill used as subs.

Get bennett on a new contract as bagan is not ready for a 1st choice season just yet.

Also thought Sang had a great game and put some proper tackles in. 4 kids starting, great game time experience v Millwall will do them the world of good.

I thought Bagel did really well and will get better all I could see were positives in a poor first half however a clear fact is Giles made the difference what a good player he is havent seen such a good free kick cross like that since whits

Overall it has been a good start . I do think the fixtures as they have fallen has really helped us. Bedding in some youngster and still having 8 points is great also
Moore getting the rest he needed to get back up to fitness without flogging him like a dead horse He is not match fit as yet and not firing at the moment . However he will have a phase at some stage where he will go on a number of games scoring i am sure
Bagan has been ok and learning some valuable lessons and will only get better from playing full games Colwill as yet not sure what he adds but he surely has talent . Sang impresses with more games and looking better than NG as far as i am concerned .

I am feeling a lot more positive than i was at the start of the season that is for sure

Giles is started to make me wonder, how overrated is Harry Wilson? I mean he's a decent player and still very young but being at Liverpool inflates your value something rotten

Good to know it wasn't me being blind when I couldn't find the crowd number before today.
