Peterborough United and Cardiff City charged by FA after melee

Sky Sports:

Thursday 19th August 2021

Nathan Thompson of Peterborough is injured on the ground with Aden Flint of Cardiff bending over and Oliver Norburn of Peterborough pushing him away

Peterborough United and Cardiff City have been charged by the Football Association for a melee during their 2-2 Championship draw on Tuesday.

A foul by Cardiff's Marlon Pack in the 43rd minute sparked a shoving match, with Pack and Bluebirds team-mate Aden Flint being booked.

The clubs allegedly failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

Both Peterborough and Cardiff have until Monday to respond to the charge.

The game was goalless at the break, with Flint scoring two late goals to rescue Mick McCarthy's visitors a point from 2-0 down.

How ridiculous, the Peterborough player lunged in and then their players inexplicably charged towards Pack, who did absolutely nothing wrong in my opinion. I'm still mystified how Pack got booked, as I don't think he even put a tackle in. The melee was 100% caused by Peterborough and our players had every right to react. Melees like that are part of the game anyway, winning the psychological, physical and personal battles. What did the FA expect our players to do, stand back and allow Pack to get a hiding?

Typical bias reporting from sky!! If they looked at it again, they will clearly see it was the Peterborough player that fouled pack, studs up too :old: :bluebird:

I really assumed that we would appeal the booking. Pack was fouled not the other way around.

The only person who should be charged is the referee, who was hopeless, as this incident clearly showed.

Sorry, I should of known that.

I can understand why both teams have been charged, because there was a scuffle between several players from both teams.

The things I don't understand were:

- Why did he only book two of our players when it was clear that there were several Peterborough players involved as well?

- Pack didn't make the foul, it was the Peterborough player who made the foul.

Both of those things were difficult for the referee to see perhaps but he should have sought advice from the fourth official. This all happened on the halfway line so it would have been clear enough for the fourth official to see.

It did seem most of the 50/50 decisions went their way.

Some things never change with referees' decisions when one of the managers is a Ferguson.

the ref was not fit for purpose and was lucky it did not get more out of hand due to his incompetence...
