Are the Jacks in trouble?

Tue Aug 17, 2021 11:53 am

The Jacks are not doing match programme's this season and have sacked all the programme sellers, they will do programme's digitally as they cannot afford to print the programme's and pay the sellers. Wow!

Didn't realise it was that bad down there. Sort of explains why Cooper left, probably didn't want to stay with no money to spend after their best players left - Ayew, Hourihane, Guehi.

Hard to feel sorry for them, they've been there before. Expect they'll screw over some of their local independent companies again to get out of it.

I thought I had read they had had a cash injection for the renaming of their stadium! No?

There are some on here ( not me ) who will claim this is progress and all part of the 'digital wallet' ( similar to our first home match ticket being sent to a smart phone ). Just like self service tills in supermarkets, I for one, will avoid them like the plague :old:

It helps sell programmes and other literature when your clientelle can actually read, Rog; and the Caxton Printers they use can't help costs...

I had wondered why their fair-weather supporters (the obvious one pretending to be something he is not apart) hadn't been here so much of late...

I put money in the bucket for them last time out; 100% won't be happening again... :(

Agreed nothing in them virtually obsolete, I never take them either, but I suppose some old fans still love them?

As a publisher (and an ex program seller when I was a kid down the City) who still makes a decent bit of our profit from print, I've got to say that is nuts.

Easy to make your money back on a program through advertising and product sales. Print run of 5,000 could be covered comfortably through maybe 5 or 6 ads if done properly (target local businesses and offer coupons - plus tap up the club sponsors for a decent bit of add on visibility for them for a little extra outlay)

Give your program sellers access to the games and a little bit of commission means no wage costs other than performance-related pay.

Could honestly shit out a business plan to make that work. Doesn't need to turn a massive profit, just enough to make it viable for those who still like buying programs (there are enough that would) and it is as much as anything a poor branding/marketing decision.

If anything, while this might highlight how tight funds are down there, the more worrying thing (if I were a Jack which praise the sweet lord I'm not) is the simple lack of business acumen.

saves paper, money, prob a few grand per game and they might even sell more digital copies. No brainer really in current times.

Yeah a tradition that may well die out eventually.

I get a free one each game and there’s nothing in it really although I do manage to almost complete the junior bluebird crossword puzzle

Would a football club lose money on printing programmes and matchday catering ? I think this is probably down to issues with suppliers/contractors

The sellers aren’t paid as they are all volunteers vis the supporters trust .

They've got a problem on the pitch, they got stuffed by Stoke a limited budget, a new Manager that's trying to change their style of play, time will tell but they've had a bad start and few cracks all seem to be appearing at once :D :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :occasion5:

Not happy, interesting few weeks, not sure they'll know how to dig in and fight their way up the table if they have a terrible start?

Is the tide turning against Martin already ?

Interesting one below, trying to change and play the Swansea way, with Newport standard players by the sounds :laughing6:
