" If they offer enough money then the club will "

MICK McCARTHY:

Ciaron Brown, confident he will stay?

His agent is doing a good job isn’t he?!

I did say, and I’m not in the habit of messing around or spreading bull, Middlesbrough offered and it’s no where near enough.

If they offer the amount the club wants, then they will decide to sell him.

If not then he will stay until next year and he will leave on a free transfer if he does not sign a new contract, which he has been offered.

There has been one other club interested in him, to my knowledge, because I’ve spoken to that club.

Whether he has got any interest in going there if they do come in with a bid I don’t know. But the bids are nowhere near.

I saw Atkinson went from Oxford to Bristol City and I know he signed a two or three-year deal, but he went for £1.3m. A left-sided centre-back.

We are not looking at anything like that but they are going to have to bid more than they have to take him.

Could you reinvest the money you receive, if he left?

MICK McCARTHY:

I’m not sure we’ve got any to spend.

Replacing Ciaron… Warny is not daft by the way! He is double cute! He has been around a lot longer than me.

He sees Ciaron Brown as exactly what he did for us last year, left-sided centre back, left back and left wing-back.

If he can get him for what he’s bidding then he’s got a very good player… so why the bloody hell should I sell him to Warny! Or let him go there unless the recompense gives me the chance to replace him.

If not, it’s not happening. I can’t be any straighter than that.

If Brown goes, i think that the club will resign Bennet, just my opinion.

He is probably worth about 150k if Atkinson was 1.3 million.

Atkinson is so so so much better than Brown. Dickie was another CB at Oxford who was very good. Obviously they had Nelson too. We had their third best CB.

Brilliant business if that happens.

I believe that he has asked to leave, missed the last two games, not even in the squad, supposed to be injured :o ;)

He offers very little at LWB or LB anyway, the only thing he has is a left foot. Ralls had the same sort of impact there.

I guess as emergency back-up he is there, but Bagan, Davies and Giles have LWB covered and they offer much more going forward.

Brown is okay at LCB, but don't feel he was that great to be upset about losing him. Think Nelson is much better. Boro would be a good move for him, Warnock will offer silly wages on a free.

Sadly, he needs to go because he is not good enough. However, I would say we need to keep him as he will not be replaced, and we will be a man light as usual.

Also, I don't blame him asking to leave if indeed he has. Players are not entitled to a high wage, but there is the going rate, there is market rate as to the parameters of pay for a player.

We do however seem to be a club, this year certainly, that expects players to play or sign for us for peanuts. If this MB is to be believed, we have lost out on numerous targets to other clubs because they can pay a more decent rate of pay within acceptable parameters.

It's the sad mindset of a club hierarchy happy to let the supporters suffer a long season.

After years of paying over the odds it seems we’re going the other way and giving youth a chance. I’m happy with this - I’d much rather see a young kid having a right go than a journeyman going through the motions and picking up a hefty wage.
This strategy takes patience though.

I cant disagree with the thought process, however, we shouldn't be blooding the youth all at the same time.

Secondly, we should only push them into the first team if they are good enough. Frankly, the games in which they have played, both competitive last year, and friendlies this year, show that they are not good enough.

I agree with the patience, but patience inasmuch as we need to wait until quality youngsters come through.

I like the look of Isaac Davies, but, and I hate to say it, there has been a lot of spin over Colwill. From what I have seen, he is certainly not shining in his performances to date.

I think our hand is being forced. We have to play them and it’s sink or swim for them I’m afraid.
For years the club have been bleating about the youth talent and we never really got to see them.
I see your thinking mate but I have to disagree re Colwill - he’d only had a few games and he’s done ok; linking the midfield and attack quite well. He’ll surely only improve. The only game he struggled with was the hand v Wycombe when they were scrapping for their lives and didn’t give him an inch and roughed him up a bit. He’ll hopefully learn from this.
I haven’t seen Issac Davies, Tom Davies or Bowen but our young wing back v Barnsley did ok; certainly knows how to pass out of defence which is a rarity in itself! Lol.

In fairness, I'll give Bagan as a decent example. Lots to learn, but he came through with a lot of, if not all decent 1st team players around him and has done pretty well.

As for him passing out of defence? He'll soon have that knocked out of him

Like nothing more than to see Colwill do well. The only youngster we have that actually looks like he can cope with the physical attributes of the game. Personally not seen it yet.

I'd keep him, and Davies around the fringes of the 1st team squad, with Bagan a starter ( purely because we have nobody else)

Fair points again. Bagan, that’s him - forgot his name for a sec.
ideal circumstances would have all our kids on the bench but for whatever reason, these aren’t ideal circumstances.
Good debate though mate.
3 points today now :bluescarf:
