UPDATED: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

Thu Aug 12, 2021 6:55 am

UPDATED: Friday 13th August 2021

McCarthy said that the Bluebirds were happy with their transfer business so far and, as things stand, they would not be looking to make any more signings this summer.

MICK McCARTHY:

“I happy how the transfers have gone this summer.”

“I have made three free transfers and a loan is proof that we have we have no money available.”

“I have all positions covered and an abundance of talent brought through from the Cardiff Academy.”

Mick McCarthy's transfer statement

Thursday 12th August 2021

Bluebirds boss McCarthy just answered "yes" when asked if his transfer business was done for the summer.

He was speaking after he has sealed the short-term signing of Marley Watkins, on what is essentially a longer trial period.

It would mean City tackling the rest of a brutal campaign with what they have in situ.

"Yes," he said simply.

"I think we've got a decent squad.”

“We have good back up in all positions and the numbers.”

"If we can get those players at the top of the pitch back. Rubin (Colwill) was back in today, you could see already his impact.”

"We had Isaac Vassell having 90 minutes for the under-23s, his first 90 minutes in two years, so talk about confidence, that'll be good for him.”

"If we get Josh (Murphy) back playing, then we've got a good squad of players, I believe."

“This is a decent squad, full of talent and we believe can go places.”

Too many "if's" for me... IF Colwill plays well, IF Tomlin is fit, IF Murphy stays fit and hits form, IF Vassell stays injury free, IF the academy players come through... If this, If that..

Micks just keeping the board happy and just content to at least have a job and is going down exactly the same route as Neil Harris.
I supported him at first as I thought he was still the old Mick, but he is just another Neil Harris and football boring.
Happy with draws.

This is not the MICK from over 10 yrs ago.
I did loads of searches on him at his time at Ipswich, their fans hated him and use to sing how shit the football was . He use to get booed of the pitch as he was always content to just plod.

I hope hope he’s a better manager than think he is. Hopefully we can get the old mick back from 15 years ago. If not then he still our has been. :)

Doesn't mick know we have signed a striker

Agreed. Would have welcomed the old nick with open arms. To me he’s another Slade just a more expensive version. I would have loved us to have gone for mark robins.

Definitely keeping the board happy. Tan has been asking for this sort of setup for years now and finally he has his way thanks to MM.

I don't see much happening expect mediocre football that should keep us in this league. I can see a number of fans getting disgruntled but that will not bother Tan as he has cut himself off from us. What I can see is Tan setting us up to be sold. We are becoming a mid table Championship side in a comfort zone with small overheads once the Youth come through READY for someone to come in and invest in us with the intentions of reaching the Premier.

IF this is tans plan to Reduce costs have us stable in championship then have a rich billionaire to take us over (or a 2and hand car salesman) fans cannot complain then as they'll get their wish the end of this regime ....
As for mm never put him down as a yes man but seems every manager we've had under tan is one  So what's new??

I’d also add Dalman as well who has cut himself off, if it was not for Steve Borley we would have had no presence at board level whatsoever at pre season games and the first league game

I guess Dalman will turn up at a London game tho, when is Fulham away .

I've seen some early criticism of managers before but this is pretty swift even by our standards

So we come off a season where we were on our way to a relegation battle and MM got us to within a couple of games of the playoffs with the same players and suffering significant injuries

Now, one league game into the season, he's not the man for us !!

The point about boring football is just silly. Aside from Slade the most boring football we've seen is Mackay and nobody was moaning then

That said, long-term I predict McCarthy isn't for us but no way am I going to start criticising after one league game.

Let's see where we are mid/late October and then make a judgement.

Yep, but hey ho, let's not let facts like that get in the way of starting a "McCarthy Out" campaign after 1 game of the new season :laughing5: :laughing5:

How about the restrictions he was operating under at Ipswich ? If you think our budget is limited you should have seen his at Ipswich

Re: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:19 am

Ipswich fans wish they kept Mick now as they are in league 1 lol give Mick a chance besides Fulham no one has spent loads of money in the championship and we kept Moore every club has lost loads over the last 18 months and are being careful I do not like Tan or Dalman but I can see what is happening and Mick is not being a yes man just being real what has happened.

Once supporters are back and money coming in clubs will be in a better position as supporters we need to support the team now as we use to do and who knows

One of the main things is on this site people wanted to see a young team being built the youth getting a chance so now you got it then support it as the youngsters like Bagel Rudy will need support and they will get better

Re: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:31 am

Mad anyone at the club thinks it’s acceptable to go into the championship season with the current squad.

Re: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:45 am

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill :laughing6:

Realistically, yes there's some very good talent in the squad and a lot of different options for us to test. Murphy, Moore & Giles has mouthwatering counter-attacking pace. We are pretty solid at the back once we get in the groove.

I would agree with Mick - "I think we have a decent squad".

He's not saying it's outstanding, but he's saying in the right conditions, it is very good, in bad conditions (injuries etc.) it is probably average mid-table.

CM is weak, we know that, but not many Championship sides are the full package, that's why we're here.

We have a squad that excels if playing the right system. For all this shite about boring football, I wasn't bored when we were steam-rolling teams and on our long unbeaten run last season. I was bored at times during Dave Jones era a.k.a "the best football ever" too. Very fickle on here. If Mick said it's a weak squad but I won't be signing anyone then he's all the more a puppet. What's wrong with Mick wanting to be in a job and work within sensible guidelines? It's not as if he's being told to sell up all of our assets?

I'm not sure anyone would say that. I just think some (particularly the club and MM) accept that it's as good as it can be in the current situation.

Re: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

Yeah for sure, however the lack of loans is baffling. Particularly with one 19 year old left back

Re: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

He's right. We can go places - We can go from say 16th to 10th.

For me thats not sufficient.

A city the size of Cardiff. A stadium the Size of the Cardiff City Stadium. A supporter base the size of ours - We deserve to be in the top 2 and from there be a continual Premier League side. No if's. No But's. Its what we deserve. End of!

And I also know in the past 12 months the club has been approached by at least 2 consortiums (I know the names of each - but will keep discreet) and I also know that each consortium had the finances to enable us to get to the Premier League and keep us there.

Re: MICK McCARTHY MAKES TRANSFER STATEMENT:

The trouble with this sort of post is that there is no detail on who it is (whether they are fit and proper to take us on) or what they are offering.

I could offer to take the club over tomorrow but 1. I'm probably not "fit and proper" and 2. I'd be offering nothing

The fact that the alleged bids haven't even got as far as the EFL approval stage would seem to indicate they are nowhere near meeting the owners criteria and therefore were never going to succeed.

If you were Tan would you just sell up for the good of the club and take a £100m hit, I don't think so.

That is a lot of ifs. Let's look at them in order.

1. If Colwill plays? The signs are that he will.He has to become a good championship player too and it looks reasonbly promising that he will.
2. If Tomlin is fit. Who knows he is infuriating not being fit at the start of the season on the other hand he did almost singlehandedly drag us into the playoffs under Harris in the second half of that season might happen again. He may get more interested as his contract runs down.
3. Murphy. He is not that injury prone so he should be fit for most of the season can't see him being anything but inconsistent though. He is another who may be motivated by his contract running down.
4. Academy players. It is looking promising and in the end this season may end up being about blooding them and seeing who emerges for next season.

All in all too many ifs. If two or three of the above happens we might make the playoffs less and its definately mid table. Maybe the quality of Giles in attack might make a big difference? Too many imponderables at the moment.

Hi Piledriver. You are of course correct but, when posting financially sensitive information, I am sure you appreciate that I need to maintain total discretion and keep my promise to those I have personally spoken to.

I like to think I am a good judge of character and, in respect to either bid, I am quite sure all parties would easily pass the "fit and proper" test. As to the wealth of these individuals, and again this is my own personal view, I dont think the parties are any less wealthy than what we presently have - and I know they each share my belief that CCFC should not only be a Premier League club but a club that stays there - rather than teetering around the bottom 3.

I am sure you will appreciate that I need to show some discretion whilst at the same time trying to alleviate your concerns.

I personally think it is refreshing to note that there are people out there who see us as a viable business and who believe we should be a permanent fixture in the Premier League.

Begs question why didnt tan sell to either one? If one is previous
owner dont blame him!! but when we all know he would sell if conditions are right what motive does he have to keep a loss making club? We all know as well we ate a good buy for serious investors.

The last 10 league games last season were boring and poor. the pre-season was awful. Mick making statements about howbig, happy, quality etc etc he is with this squad, bringing 8 amazing youngsters all at once, when other clubs could never produce suddenly eight high quality youngsters just like that. He has Harris written all over him , not the Mick from 10 yrs ago.

This is Slade & Harris joined together, very cheap, a yes man and boring, My strong view.

I really thought Mick was totally different
