Welsh Fire?

Damp squib more like!

The 100 has been entertaining (well, a bit) but badly thought through. Lots of quality players dropping out halfway through due to test call ups etc. Unfortunately others dropping out at the beginning due to covid/covid restrictions. Add to that Sophia Gardens being "sold out" with only 3.5K in the ground (Welsh Government sh#te) and you've got a recipe for abject failure and that's what we've seen with the 'Fire'.

Next year (if it happens) players should not be allowed to drop in and out and whoever is selected should make a commitment to the team. Consistency and momentum is important IMO and will give the competition the integrity it does not have at the moment.

Welsh Fire have been awful, an embarassment and not up to scratch.

For a minute I thought Tan was trying to change our club's name again.

I think the competition as been good to watch i saw fire tonight
and same old story not enough runs to pressure opponents.... Funny thing is these players are the cream of cricket around world? they have consistently scored under par hence bottom of league.... but glamorgan are top of cup league and just need a win to automatically go into semi final ..

Think Glamorgan only have one player playing in the hundred, and that's not even for Welsh Fire, so the Glammy one day cup side is comparatively strong as others have been diluted much more by Hundred selection.
Cricket scheduling is quite bizarre but they are trying to fit in a lot in a short season. And have England tests whilst everything else going on.
Drakey has shafted welsh fire mind good and proper. They played Friday night before Barnsley and still only allowed 3000 in.

I've seen every Welsh Fire game at home (men and women) and they've hardly been (quote) "embarrassing" (unless your sole measure is winning or losing) but they have been the orchestra of their own undoing on occasions...

With Bairstow in the team for the whole series, it would have been a completely different story... :thumbright:

I’d have to agree, Jonny Bairstow in the first two games was the difference. He seemed to give the whole team a big boost, and his captaincy decisions worked 90% of the time. Whereas with Duckett he’s got quite a few things wrong in my opinion, keeping a bowler on for the extra 5 or not. Our oversea’s stars haven’t been the best really. Qais Ahmed has comfortably been the pick of the bunch. The original draft we would have had Starc and Smith, that would have been brilliant. Hopefully over the next few seasons we will see the bigger names in world cricket coming over, the set up of the competition is definitely a positive for cricket in this country.

Perhaps should have put all the glam players in team they would walk it if 1day cup is anything to go by? Won all their games except one which they lost by 1run!! :D

Never mind welsh fire? Glammy on fire into 1 day cup final on Thursday :occasion5:

Re: Welsh Fire?

Glammy being in the one day cup semi final achievement in itself. Welsh media hardly noticed!
ECB downgrade of one day cup in favour of hundred is a farce. Final on Thursday two days later for gods sake whilst there is no cricket whatsoever scheduled for next Sunday 22nd. Scheduling lunacy

Glammy won the one day cup just now..... and didn't play any of their big players from the 100 competition..

Superb performance from Glamorgan, Allan and well deserved winners

Equally, a great performance in Welsh Fire's final 100 game last night, as they won a thrilling run chase against high-scoring London Spirit

The crowds for the cricket have been fantastic 9k for fire last night 7k for today's game with only 48hrs notice theyve been brilliant in the one day cup losing just 2 games by 1 run and then 4 runs.

Absolutely loved the hundred ...been able to get home from work and watch ....great idea putting men’s and women’s on together.....atmosphere has been brilliant at almost all the grounds and some decent cricket played .
I for one want to back next year even thought the Fire have disappointed.
Love the fact we have players playing for us who normally don’t come near Sophia Gardens..
