“ My Honest View: Mick McCarthy & Neil Harris “

Mon Aug 09, 2021 1:41 pm

MY HONEST VIEW:

Regarding Harry Wilson:

How many goals is Harry Wilson going to score this season and create?

Fulham style of play will get the best out of him.

I really don't think Cardiff came close to doing that under Neil Harris last season or Big Mick who took him off way too often in closing quarter of games when defenders started to tire and the defensive & negative football did not suit players like Harry Wilson.

Imagine with Cardiff fans behind him.

I realise Mick is a boring and defence minded manager, I saw it in his last 10 games last season, pre- season friendlies and v Barnsley, so Harry Wilson would never shine under him.

Chairman Dalman said Wilson was one of our best players, he was one of his biggest fans.

My view Fulham had a bargain £10mill, pay a year later, ambition.

No point saying move on as Harry Wilson plays in the Championship and could haunt us and take Fulham up.

Opinion ?

Harry Wilson scores last night for Fulham v Boro.

No ambition. No midfield. No pace. Can't pass. Why don't we get Steve Cooper in to build a squad over the next couple of years for a real push to the prem.

Fulham wont be promoted because they bought Wilson? They'll go up because they changed manager kept most of their side and brought in other players...... but what is said about Wilson regarding Harris and mick is very true.

Of course not just because of one player , but it’s about adding class to a team and the icing on the cake Allan and for me Harry Wilson is at this level.

We will see.

I'm sorry but there's no way that Wilson is worth £10m.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, why weren't the lower Premier League clubs trying to bring him? Why would nobody else pay what Fulham? Why didn't Bournemouth want him back last season when they had him on loan the year before?

I saw him a few times on TV for Bournemouth in the year they got relegated and when they had their big games, he went missing.

Last season he went missing for us when we needed him to perform.

As for his performance yesterday, he played alright and scored a good goal.

But his team didn't win the game at home (like us). He only got MOTM on Sky because of the goal.

A lot of people on here have long treated Harry Wilson like he's Lionel Messi but he's not as good as people make him out to be.

It's true he doesn't fit our style of play, but I fail to see how that's a bad thing.

There are a lot of different styles of play in football and all of them can be successful.

A player like Wilson wouldn't have fitted into our team under Warnock either, but we went on to finish 2nd in the same.

Wouldn't have fit into our team under Malky (remember how he didn't utilise Whittingham's strengths) but we still won the league.

People are overreacting to the first game of the season. Acting like we lost 4-0 to a newly promoted team. We drew with a team that was in the play-offs last year, and they've one lost one or two of their main players from last season. Have a new manager as well which normally sees teams do well for the first few games.

We do play defensive football at times but there's nothing wrong with that. We played it under Warnock most of the time and not many had complaints then. People were happy with this style of football under Mick when we won his first few games as well.

But if people insist on drawing conclusions from the first game of the season, then I'd say none of these teams won either:

Bournemouth
West Brom
Fulham
Sheffield United
Middlesbrough
Nottingham Forest

Does this mean that all of them are going to be mid-table this season?

Still a long, long way to go.

Ned,

The £10mill will be answered this season, so we shall see.

Harris & Mick were not the right managers for Wilson as they are both very negative and boring in their play.

Of course we are not.

But ambition we lack and I will say as I said one month ago I am very very worried under the current board what lies ahead for us.
That’s not just an opinion, it’s what I hear and sadly know.

Dalman is a spinner an mp the way he talks to us as though we are all fools.

Can't argue that they had a good deal in paying the fee next year.

Not for me at ten million especially under a buy now pay later deal.

If Fulham don’t get promoted the gamble won’t have paid off and they will be stuck with a10 million fee to find - huge gamble in current circumstances.

Would also say if there is a concern about the board and not all of us having the full facts it is difficult to debate topics - just my opinion.

Anyway from the little I know correct decision not to buy

Good player and in today’s climate probably worth the asking price but imho if you take into account the way we play and set our team out, we would not get the best out of him and therefore it would be a waste of money.

Annis, I said the exact same thing in the post :- Harry Wilson.

Said that with our style of non-possession and long ball football he was never going to set the division alight with us.
Also said put him in a team like Brentford or Fulham and he’ll do well.

The guy has got a lot of class but wasted with boring managers like McCarthy.

Yes it is - just not for me at the price on that deal.

Remember Liverpool have a habit of selling fringe players to clubs at fees well in excess of what they actually worth and turn out to be a sack of shit but let’s see

Dalman loved Wilson and you fell for that one :o

Hope all good Annis - boiling here at the moment

It's all risk and reward isn't it. If fulham go up the risk of 10mill is nothing in the reward if being in the Premier league. However if they don't then a big chunk of their parachute payment next year has already been spent and they'll start to look a bit like us this year. I've been watching the city for 53 years and have seen my fair share of near calls on the very future of our club. Personally I'd rather see us as a mid table Premier side than risk dropping like Sunderland and pompey. Now on the other hand if our young talent comes through and makes us a viable Premier league survival team without putting the future if the club at stake then great.

The sad thing is the usual platitudes and smoke/mirrors will be used to justify the "lads did well" and " we were unlucky" followed by I know he ddint score but he was in the right place.

I dont blame McCarthy, I didnt blame Harris, the person to blame is who ever is the "mastermind" behind how the club sees itself in the future, Warncock came by an accident, and what a tidal wave we rode the appointment being a stopped clock being right at least twice a day. Love watching the city and missed it so bad and felt a pressure lifted after watching the game on Saturday, but can anyone really say we are where we should be after all the money Mr Tan has spent? Profligacy of the highest order, with a potential weekly support of 30,000 plus when we do well why are always seeking to down play expecations, accept second best or " with Covid all clubs are operating on reduced money", we get it but FFS show a little ambition. The latest statement written rearlier about MM not fancying Tomlin, well that aboust sums it up. What a waste.

Great post, spot on.
Wilson wasn’t to good for this club he was to good for some of the fans who have posted that he wasn’t worth 10 million. He will be worth 25 million in a year or so.
There was a chairman from the past who kept stating Cardiff city fans get what Cardiff city fans deserve, I never thought I would ever agree with that chairman but I do after reading some of the statements on here.
Read the transfer deal Fulham have struck !!! That they don’t pay anything up front !!
One player doesn’t make a team some of you have said - true, but if that one player converts for example those two misses in front of goal on Saturday and does similar over a season what is that worth if it gets you promoted ??
I agree with what someone has said get Cooper in and build a team over a couple of seasons that can get us promoted AND NOT a team that is a one season wonder, not a yo yo team, and not a team that plays lump it football.

Cooper got Swanse to 2 play offs using under 17s contacts to bring top end loan players in that they could never afford to keep and by playing possibly the best player in this league who they failed to off load due to wages.... in 2 years he built zero and left a squad a number of people including he himself were not prepared to risk their reputations on....and what sort of football did they play.... was similar to ourselves if you believe the majority of Swansea fans...which is why ive heard the return of Swansea way mentioned a million times this last week or so

True on the contracts.
Style of football totally disagree
