Mick McCarthy on Bacuna:

Mick on Bacuna:

‘Leandro was getting in there. He’s come back from international duty and looked brilliant. He’s had Covid and he was off for a while, but he’s got up to speed superbly well. I was delighted with his overall performance. Keep getting in there and you’ll score.’

Unfortunately Bacuna's goalscoring record throughout his career tends to suggest that whether he "gets in there" or not he rarely scores goals.

If we're relying on Bacuna to get us goals this season it's going to be a very long season.

Some of Mick's recent "observations" are beginning to worry me to be honest.

No

His exact record for us is three goals in 95 games. He is a one goal a season man. One criticism of MM made by Ipswich fans is he had his favourite players who never seem to get dropped no matter how bad they were. I think we now know who that is at Cardiff.

Thought he cost us the game yesterday his second miss was terrible. Every single one of our midfielders would be better at scoring goals than him. He can at times play well in midfield but his ability to score goals is non existent.

He got in the right positions and his all-round play was decent, given he's just come back from internationals with Curaçao - so a long journey.

But his composure in front of goal was abysmal.

If I’m honest I don’t rate him at all

I think we all know he's not a 10. Should've done better with both chances.

Heaven help us.
What on earth have our players been doing all summer for so money to have covid?
And what on earth is going on for MM to see Bacuna as an offensive goal scoring midfielder. Beggars belief

MM Either deluded or regurgitated board room BS
You forget we’ve been watching him a lot longer than you, some of the statements emitted recently are very worrying.

There is no way you can sugar coat the misses by Bacuna and saying he did well to "Get in there" for me is just that sugar coating. In a very tight game with few clear cut chances we need players who not just get in there but show composure when they do. In the most basic terms taking just one of those 2 chances and it's 3 points.

If the keeper saves the attempts is one thing but both were high and wide and you cannot get away from the clear lack of composure from Bacuna. In fairness to MM playing Bacuna there could be down to the number of injuries amongst our forward players in reality the only "FIT" player available was Mark Harris but I would put money on him scoring at least one of those chances.

As these players return to fitness there will be a bright spotlight shining down on MM should he continue to select Bacuna in this role ahead of our other forwards.

Absolutely agree Harris should have played in place of Bacuna the fact he didn't probably cost us two points. Harris is actually a good finisher his problem is he doesn't get himself in a position to finish enough often enough. If he had been on the end of the two chances Bacuna had yesterday he would definitely have scored the second and possibly the more difficult first chance too. If we persist with Bacuna as an attacking goal scoring midfielder we are going nowhere.

Not a convincing excuse. Harris was the obvious choice. Hadn’t our manager seen how differently those 2 had dealt with 2 crosses against County?
I’d rather City played all their youngsters instead of these journeymen.
Bowen, Bagan, Harris, McGuinness, Sang, Colwill, Wintle, Ng must get decent game time instead of the likes of Pack, Ralls, Bacuna, Vaulks, Murphy etc

Clearly MM sees something in Bacuna that I have not since his shocking debut against Reading away a few seasons back on a drab and wet Sunday 12oclock kick off. f**k all has changed since then apart from maybe one or two stand out performances.

I think he fits MM brand of football, dull and slow and painful to watch but just an opinion of course. :ayatollah: :bluebird:

not much changed apart from he was playing right back due to Pelts being out ,not that anyone stood out for good reasons that day... and im sure his debut was in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth
