I think it's probably down to some people still being cautious about Covid, but I'd expect the crowd numbers to rise across the UK as the more weeks go by with the restrictions lifted.

29,043 at Sheffield United v Birmingham for tonight's game, which was live on Sky.

Stoke home crowd 19,068

Stoke City substitute Sam Surridge slammed in an 85th-minute winner as the Potters finally saw off Reading in their first home game watched by a crowd in 17 months.

In front of 19,068 fans, which created a cracking atmosphere, the Royals twice came from behind in a memorable game in which most of the scoring was done inside three sensational first-half minutes.

Just saw the highlights of the Stoke game. God knows where the 19k were.. all disguised as red seats maybe.?

1500 odd from Reading boosted those numbers too

Agree.

Not much that fans of Bournemouth can do because their stadium is so small.

But clubs like Blackburn will always have low crowds unless they're in Premier League because people would rather go and watch Man Utd or Man City. Even the ones who don't will go and watch Bolton, which have a bigger fanbase.

But good crowd numbers today from Stoke and Sheffield United because they'll always have good crowd figures.

Next week when West Brom, Birmingham, Middlesbrough and Hull play at home they'll have good numbers as well.

Even in League One it proves the point, with Sunderland getting over 30,000 today. Bolton and Ipswich had over 20,000. Charlton had over 17,000. That's all third tier football.

Next week you can guarantee that Sheffield Wednesday (League One) and Bradford (League Two) will have high numbers.

All these teams still get relatively good crowd figures and haven't played at the top for a long time:

Forest haven't played in the Premier League for 22 years

Sheffield Wednesday haven't been in the Premier League for 21 years

Bradford haven't been in the Premier League for 20 years

Ipswich haven't been in the Premier League for 19 years

Charlton haven't been in the Premier League for 14 years

Birmingham haven't been in the Premier League for 10 years

Bolton haven't been in the Premier League for 9 years

Bristol City even get good crowds. They played in the old First Division but not since the Premier League started in 1992.

Yet we were relegated only recently but can't even get to 20,000 for a 3pm kick off not on Sky.. And a lot of those were season tickets.

Small clubs have always had small crowds and the clubs with historic big crowds will always have them - whatever league they're in.

Ned for years we've only had 4k+
walking up crowds in championship Except for big games and promotion years..... so we rely on season ticket holders to make up bulk of crowd? so yesterday shows nothing as changed so expect 17k to be around average until get buisness end of season if going for top it will get higher.

There’s no buzz about the club, and everyone knows it. We play a brand of football that is extremely tedious. I couldn’t be bothered yesterday, and I’ve been ST since early 80s..

Think our attendance was on the low side as the consensus of opinion seems to be that we will be mid table this season and there will be no promotion push. By contrast Ipswich had a very big attendence as they have a new manager have spent big for the division £2.8 million and are expecting automatic promotion.Win a few games and our attendance will go up dramatically.

Expecting promotion? With relegated clubs keeping their players and spending on others ... if Ipswich fans are expecting promotion they are optimistic to the extreme? in fact as much as fans expecting city to be top 2! But if in top 2 after 6 games then as you've previously said they'll be in top at end season so their fans can be optimistic then... :old:

In terms of the Coventry attendance, it's important to state that it was their first competitive game back in Coventry.

Would be a surprise if they averaged close to 20k+ over the season.
