MY VIEW / OPINION:


HMMMMMM FOR ME TODAY WAS NOT THE BEST START, AS CITY SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR 3PTS AT HOME & AGAINST CLUBS LIKE BARNSLEY.


On the plus side Giles, Collins and Bagan all stood out for me, all looked very good


For me a draw was a fair result.




First-Half: Encouraging first-half by Cardiff, had the better play over all.
Very few opportunities by either side.

City 45% Barnsley 55% possession

Cardiff 5 Barnsley 7 shots




Second-Half: Barnsley deserved their equaliser as were the better team.



Bacuna missed two sitters, could of won it for City.



Would love to see Joe Bennett be given a few games to prove himself

The game came alive in the 27th min with a brilliant cross by Giles and header by James Collins to score, but to be disallowed for offside.
With in minutes the City goalie Phillips made a great save.


City can be happy with their over all performance

The ball is slotted through from Morris into the path of Frieser, who rifles home and runs to the away fans, but the official raises his flag again!

Giles hit a lovely outswinger with his left foot and Pack rose highest and powers home a lovely header. First one of the season!

Barnsley equalise. And what a goal it is.

A 50-yard diagonal pass from Josh Benson was expertly trapped by Toby Sibbick, who takes a touch or two before smacking it into the bottom corner past Phillips.

About as route one as it gets.

We were average at best and missed a few opportunities to score, cobwebs need clearing out.

A mix of positives and negatives for me. The new signings all impressed with decent debuts. Giles is an excellent signing and his dead ball delivery is top class. The negatives have to be Bacuna being hopeless in front of goal and the general poor quality of passing (familiar story). Lost count of the number of times Nelson aimlessly hoofed the ball in to touch. He needs to be dropped when Morrison is fit again. Overall, whilst its disappointing to draw it was a fair result. Five of the opening day fixtures have ended in draws and the Jacks lost. Glass half full..just!

As said above. Bacuna could have scored two today god knows how he missed them. Nelson was playing rugby today hoofing it to touch baffled me every time. Few of the new starters seemed OK, I can't remember 5 passes continously by us to be fair. Bar that I thought Barnsley was the better side for most the game in truth. A points a point though and I'm not expecting nothing this season with us to be honest but I've said that ages ago with what's come in and gone out plus the cost cutting still going on you got to be realistic my boys enjoyed it anyway.

Bacuna should of sealed it, even result and fair, two points dropped as home side

What position was Bacuna actually playing today?? Definately missing Bennett’s experience on left don’t think Bagan made right decisions on a few occasions seemed a bit rushed.

Very poor overall in my opinion, and a few more performances like this and the alarm bells will be loudly ringing.

I have no idea why Mick (and even Harris before him) think that Bacuna can fill the Number 10 role.


Reality is that if we had a decent pacey number 10 we would have won today. Bacuna missed two sitters.

Overall, very underwhelming and utterly predictable.

We have Giles to put in crosses but literally NOTHING else in open play in the final third. I can't think of many passages of play in the final third which didn't include a long ball or a Giles cross.

Bacuna isn't the answer, Tomlin is unreliable and Colwill is unproven.

Mick HAS to go and get someone in.

Poor game, especially the second half but hopefully we’ll improve otherwise it’s going to be a long season!

Wasn’t impressed by Collins but I thought Giles looks decent. Early days.

Hopefully Tomlin can get fit enough to make it as an impact sub because there’s nothing coming in in the central midfield.

Disappointing crowd figures but the Canton done well.

I thought we struggled in midfield as we were out numbered and out played.But we did have some chances to clinch it.

Completely agree.
We have Morrison who will obviously slot back in hopefully next game though.

Mistake by the manager to play Bacuna in that position. He missed a sitter v Newport whereas Harris showed how to put away a low cross. Today Harris surely should be playing instead of Bacuna and probably converts both crosses.
It’s maddening- we at last have quality balls into the box but no striker capable of scoring.
Phillips saves well then let’s a daisy cutter through his palms. Disappointing.
Overall nothing to suggest we’ll create enough in midfield and as expected we don’t play enough of the game in the opposition half.
Collins is a bench warmer. McGuinness looks good but he’ll probably be axed when Morrison returns.
Not sure what to make of Bagan today.

Best thing to say is that there is plenty of room for improvement.

Don't know where Began was for their goal and surely Mick must have seen enough of Pack, Bacuna and Ralls now to know that midfield is our weakness as it has been for so long now.

Not greatly impressed by Barnsley but a draw was a fair result - looked like two mid table teams cancelling each other out for 90 mins.

Think we'll see an awful lot of draws this season.

Solid start today, much better in the second half.

I never attach too much significance to early season results.. I remember Norwich losing 7-1 on the opening day one season and went on to get promoted.

But it's still good not to have lost the first game, 45 more to go!

went down today with the hope that cardiff may have moved from harris and warnocks kick and rush football..gotta say though, it was as bad as ever. other than giles dead ball delivery,cant see anything to say about them..piss poor. the crowd of 17000 was a shock too. i expected much more with such a long absence..maybe people have got used to not going, or perhaps the pre season was dour..who knows

Surprised you thoughtbagan stood out. He did for me but for the wrong reasons. Looked slow miss placed alot of passes. Slow to get into box for the tap. Out of position for their goal...

Joe Bennett needed

Need that spark in midfield we just havnt got enough creativity. Top 10 but not the playoffs sadly unless we get a winger ,no 9 and a central playmaker midfielder .

Thought both teams sort of cancelled each other out and overall a draw was a fair result but when you consider Bacuna missed 2 sitters and a fantastic tackle on Bagan when he seemed certain to score late in the first half it's 2 points dropped for City.

Positives for me were Giles and Collins who both looked good and both again picked out players when crossing rather than aimlessly crossing the ball to no one.

A couple negatives are when Keiffer Moore arrived we just went straight to total hoof ball and Bacuna who is confirming with every game that goes by that he doesn't have the composure in front of goal to play as a winger or attacking midfielder, surely centre midfield breaking up play is his position.

It's a cliche but when you can't win don't lose and we didn't and we ALL know we have some very good players to come into the team.

For me, take a point and result on 90 mins was fair, but 2 sitters missed by bacuna cost us 3 points.
He is not a striker so question needs to be asked why play him as a striker when he is clearly not, plus harris on the bench being a striker is the option any manager wouls and should go for.
1st game of the season is always tough and plenty of points to play for.

Looked very to me today annis no midfield you could see Barnsley goal coming 10 mins before they scored it well organised ,and I wish they would sort out the bar areas still a waste of time trying to get food or drinks and gone up a lot in price in 18 months
