Could be worse considering the current climate. A lot won't go yet.
Sat Aug 07, 2021 4:24 pm
I expected a couple of thousand more I do know a number who still will not attend due to covid and a number who stated that they had not overly missed going and think they will pick their games now
Sat Aug 07, 2021 4:26 pm
Way lower than i expected, thought at least 22,000
Sat Aug 07, 2021 4:58 pm
I was hoping for 21k but a little lower.
Sat Aug 07, 2021 5:29 pm
I didn't think it would be over 25,000 but would have expected it to be at close to 20,000.
A little disappointed with that figure, especially when you consider that this number includes those with season tickets that didn't go.

Didn't look that many to me.
Large swathes of the Grandstand and Family end were empty.
Looked about 13.500 to 14,000 to me.
Sat Aug 07, 2021 5:40 pm
What were crowds like at other games in our division?.
Sat Aug 07, 2021 5:59 pm
13,000 season ticket sales is poor really …
The attendance was a lot lower than what I expected , that said, the atmosphere was great and it was good to back following the team, in some ways ,it’s better at the ground with 17,000 as the floaters tend to be critical.

Good guess by me (at the game) as I estimated more than 15k but nowhere near 20k
Was quite pleased given the weather and the ticketing situation; although I didn't encounter any issues after the queuing issues for the pre-seadon games

Many season ticket holders were not their David.

It certainly looked that way Annis.
No doubt they'll be back for the Bristol City and Swansea games in due course.

Not really if the attendances were as bad around the country it probably shows people are giving it a miss and may never return.

Great atmosphere in the canton today

I asked the ticket office Wednesday to change my season ticket seat to the safer top tier for this game but as usual they failed. I can't remember the last time I missed the opening home game

I was surprised at how many in our area had not renewed, Annis; some after many many years...!

The ticketing issues certainly didn’t help, due mainly to the late advice update from the WAG, let’s face it, this time last week, nobody was sure how many, would be allowed to attend.
I fear that there are many who have thrown in the towel, so to speak, and for many reasons, who won’t return.

An awful lot of people still very nervous about big crowds, I know of 4 season ticket holders around me still wary of coming back due to their own health concerns.
I think it’s going to take a long time for people to get back to normal.

Crowds in all the championship weren't great tbh ,tickets only on sale this week, not kowing even if we could get over 8k didn't help

Anyone compare the gate with other clubs.
I looked online and it was 18k for Bristol City, 12k Preston , 11k Blackburn, 9k Stoke ( surely not right)
Can’t see a figure for QPR or Derby

the 9k Stoke crowd was in another thread and corrected..it was 19k.... all crowds were slightly down on pre lockdown averages....possibly ticketing issues { unable to ring ticket office } along with uncertainty { the late WAG announcement } effected ours .....

Over 80 seasons in the top division and that's how clubs get big support .the biggest supported clubs are the ones who have spent the most seasons in the top division

BBC
Stoke home crowd 19,068
Stoke City substitute Sam Surridge slammed in an 85th-minute winner as the Potters finally saw off Reading in their first home game watched by a crowd in 17 months.
In front of 19,068 fans, which created a cracking atmosphere, the Royals twice came from behind in a memorable game in which most of the scoring was done inside three sensational first-half minutes.

i dont disagree...but that doesnt change the fact they are massive and hardly ever get a mention... 32k average for the last full season with attendances , a record for 3rd tier football....
