MICK McCARTHY: “ I HAD NO PLACE FOR HIM “

Thu Aug 05, 2021 4:59 pm

Mick on Sol Bamba: ‘Bearing in mind I’ve got Flint, Nelson, Morrison, Brown and I also had Mark McGuinness in mind, it’s really hard to keep everybody.”

“ Sol is 36, that would hardly be planning for the future, “
“I am bringing the youngsters through.” “I am planning for the future, if I kept Sol that would not be planning for the future .”

“ There are no positions for a coach so we did not need one.”

“All good things come to an end, Sol has gone now.”

Sad , however difficult to argue with ,I'm guessing his salary would also be very high .

Sol, is not short and was not asking a lot, Boro easily afforded him and they are skint.
I believe Sol will be a great coach :thumbright:

Makes sense from Mick.

No space in the playing squad for someone who is a long way down the pecking order and getting too old to be competitive at this level.

No space in the coaching team either.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there can be no room for sentiment in football.

Players who are with clubs since they were kids get told when they're 18 that they're not wanted and this is no different.

Good luck to him with Warnock at Middlesbrough though, I don't think anyone would wish Sol anything but good.

I think the club should have found a way of absorbing Sol into the coaching set-up at the club.

Perhaps with the U23's and also one of the over 23 players to keep him fit and as a back-up to the first team. Imagine the U23s playing with Sol at the back and helping them.

I do understand where the club is coming from, even though it does seem a little short sighted as Sol, in my opinion, would be a wonderful coach.

But he wanted a season playing football and being in contention to play so your theory wouldn’t have worked mate.

There’s no bigger fan of Sol than me but it’s right he was released due to the reason I gave.

I would have loved him to stay.

Maybe you're right. And if that's the case I think he is being unrealistic if he thinks he's going to play a full season at Boro. Or Boro are unrealistic thinking he will play a whole season.

Still think we should have made more of an effort to get him to stay.

Wish him more luck than any other ex city player. A genuinely lovely bloke and I do hope to see him back at Cardiff one day

They at the very least could've had him as community outreach person - on the road, dropping in on training camps etc Then behind the scenes give him a grounding, not just in coaching/management but maybe moulded him into the a future Dalman/Choo level guy.

That would've been an interesting thing to develop - I know some have given it a go, but has anyone ever moulded/given a grounding in such stuff??

And how’s that going to work when he wants a playing contract?

Right decision from the club ,past his best you can't keep players on coz they are nice guys in public ,everyone going on about giving him a coaching roll etc, if he was any good ,don't you think they would of? .

Agree ,so he wants to play ,he aint going to get games for us so he gone to get game time , the club can't give every player a coaching job just coz they are doing there badges ,we would have loads of coaches, I think it was the right decision all round .Nice guy I wish him well in the future .

Couldn’t agree more! If we give him a coaching job someone would have to leave! He wanted to play for another season (more money).

He said he loved the City? Didn’t take long to move away.

He’s gone so it’s about time this was put to bed.

If I compare him to Whitt’s who was shipped out to Blackburn but stayed in the area and travelled back and forth and after he retired stayed with us there’s no comparison whatsoever.

If anything Whitt’s deserved far more so bleating on about Bamba should finish. MM has said his peace I wish him the best in his new venture but stating he loved the place and the City hmm cupboard love.
