Olympics are getting silly

Wed Aug 04, 2021 7:54 am

Now we have an olympic event for skate boarding, absolutey crazy, and a runner beats her own record wearing special shoes designed to make the runner faster. Two other winners in another events also won wearing these yype of shoes, just how is that allowed. Perhaps city could supply all our players with them

Why is skate boarding any difference to gymnastics or equestrian?

I think it’s a good thing to expand the list of sports.

Wasn't it a test even last Olympics? Think I'll try as got top score of 285!
They are trying to make games popular ? Windsurfing is in games
only difference with skateboarding
is it's on land not water....

Nothing new, what about Craig Johnson developing the Predator football boot.

Agree.

They have to move with the times and skateboarding is now very popular across the world - people should get used to it because it's there to stay.

It's also entertaining to watch.

As for the shoes, it's because they're made from fibre. All of the other athletes can buy them if they want them.. Even a lot of amateur runners have them.

I've enjoyed the Olympics so far. Pleased to see it doing well after all the negative people were saying it was going to be a disaster - but they seem to say that before every Olympics!

Saw a couple of birds climbing up a wall yesterday. The egg and spoon race must be on the horizon

I would equate skateboarding to watching tricks being performed in a circus. After about 2 or 3 competitors I was bored rigid and fast forwarded to a 'proper sport'.

I can understand the need to keep the concept of the Olympics fresh but this is pure dross. As for break dancing in the Paris Olympics....words fail me.

Don't mind skateboarding being an event. But pick real Brits. Brown born in Japan, never lived in Britain, GB dad, and lives 6 months in Japan and 6 months in California. GB team mate born in England but lives in New York. Really encouraging the inner city youth that they can be olympians

I got no problem with skate boarding. It involves alot of skill and it's very physical, it's a propper sport as much as snowboarding for eg.

The reason I have boycotted it is that had a man competing against women in weight lifting.

For you to boycott the Olympics, I assume you were selected to represent your country. What event may I ask ? lol

I'm not a dressage fan but going all the way back to the Ancient Olympics, horses have always featured in the Games. Can't image Plato or Aristotle challenging each other on skateboards somehow !

Sports like skateboarding make Olympics more relevant and accessible to kids. Cheaper for their parents to but them a board, rather than buy them a horse or enrol them in their nearest rowing club.

So because I've lived in California for a few years I'm no longer Welsh or British ?

The Welsh football team would be a bit thin if they had to live in Wales.

Its extremely difficult to get 1ton of horse to do things it does takes skill...like u say been in games for ever it seems no reason to drop it as it's part of a discipline in equestrian competition .... like rock climbing that takes nerves even if held by rope just hope the person holding it as strong grip?
Or as someone put it it's like Usain bolt doing a marathon and then the hurdles afterwards.

I understand the argument. You are no less British and our national side has benefitted. Sky Brown though has never lived in Britain. Can't be right.
