Does that make him our best ever player? that's down to personal opinion and all we can do is express opinions on the players we have seen play.
But ask any Cardiff fan for their favourite memory from the last 20 years and I would bet Whitts would be involved in the vast majority somewhere be it a goal, assist or even a red card for a badly timed but essential tackle. Whitts still has the highest number of assists by a player in Championship history, he is still the highest goal scorer in Championship history for a midfield player (13th overall), still joint top penalties scored in Championship football, in respect of our club Whitts is in the top 10 all time appearance and goal scoring. Best ever player? I don't know but most influential player in the last 15 years absolutely.
Saturday will be very emotional as we pay respect to not just a wonderful player but a husband and father tragically taken from us far to early.
God Bless you Whitts. R.I.P

In the 50 years I've been going down I don't think there has been a player who has had me off my seat as many times as Whitts.
You only have to look at the goals he has scored and most players (including Prem players) would be happy if they had scored just one of his top 20, never mind the numbers he cracked in !! In the Chopra/Bothroyd era he contributed to some of the best football I've ever seen.
Add that to the fact that he had any number offers to go elsewhere when he was at his peak and turned them down to stay with us (Forest wanted to sign him every year from memory). He was also a very genuine bloke who was happy to talk, and have a drink, with anyone.
The tragic way he lost his life just makes it even more poignant and I am more than happy to miss my last couple of pints in the pub on Saturday to make sure I'm there to pay my respects.
Naming a stand is the least we can do, and if cost is an issue that crowd funding would be a suitable way for us to recognise him contribution![]()

Can't disagree with that; and it could be argued that our 'greatest ever' player already has a statue outside the stadium...

It is a good point, but having been there for 50 of those years (that makes me feel really old !!) Whitts has to be right up there.
Keenor, quite rightly has a statue and his contribution is marked. That doesn't mean that Whitts isn't deserving of some long term recognition.
Actually, up until the 80s long serving players at all clubs were pretty common place (including my first hero Phil Dwyer) but in Whitts era it was more the exception and that just adds to the argument.
You can go to many clubs and there's bloody statues everywhere !! I'm sure some of them have give statues to the cleaners![]()

Our club has not formally recognised any player other than Keenor, if Whitts isn't deserving of it then it will be a long, long time before we have this conversation about anyone else
