Another player, Cardiff City Striker to leave?

Sun Aug 01, 2021 9:30 am

My View:
McCarthy must never moan about injuries, as he has been doing a Neil Harris, saying how much strength in depth he has and how big the squad is.
Its becoming like a broken record, following on from Harris weekly comments.
I think Harris should stay.

Cardiff City’s Mark Harris wanted on loan by Rotherham United and Fleetwood Town

Inside Football

Football 24/7

Sunday 1st August 2021

League One sides Fleetwood Town and Rotherham United are both interested in signing Cardiff City striker Mark Harris on loan this summer.

Harris, 22, is a product of the Cardiff City academy. He featured 16 times in the Championship last season and scored three goals for the Bluebirds, having previously spent time out on loan with the likes of Newport County, Port Vale and Wrexham.

Now though, Alan Nixon writes that both Rotherham United and Fleetwood Town are in a ‘loan tug-of-war’ to sign the striker this summer.

The Millers dropped back down into the third-tier after finishing 23rd in the Championship last season, whilst Fleetwood underwent a managerial change and go into the new season under Simon Grayson.

Both sides will be looking to compete in League One next time round and Harris would no doubt be an exciting signing for either side.

The sticking problem for both clubs is that Welsh club Cardiff City wants them to pay all Harris wages for this coming season.

Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy has stated on numerous occasions he has a large squad and plenty of competition for different positions.

McCarthy has said their is no money available and that he has been told before he can bring in any new players, more players need to be moved on.

Another Cardiff player Gavin Whyte has just signed a season long loan to Oxford.

Thoughts?

Harris proved a useful member of the Cardiff City side last season but after Mick McCarthy brought in James Collins on a free transfer this summer, Harris has fallen down the pecking order.

A loan move then makes sense and League One looks the ideal level for Harris to really develop his game.

He showed a lot of quality in the Championship last season and for either Rotherham or Fleetwood, bringing in Harris on a season-long loan would be a really shrewd acquisition.

Cardiff City man emerges on transfer radar of League One duo

By Toby Wilding 1 August 2021,

Rotherham United and Fleetwood Town are both interested in signing Cardiff City striker Mark Harris on loan, a report from a print edition (01/08, p59) has claimed.

A graduate of Cardiff’s academy, Harris featured 17 times for the Bluebirds in all competitions last season, scoring three goals.

The 22-year-old has also previously spent time out on loan with the likes of Newport, Port Vale and Wrexham earlier in his senior career.

Now it seems as though the striker could be about to depart the Welsh capital on a temporary basis again this summer.

According to this latest update, both Rotherham and Fleetwood are battling to sign Harris on loan this summer, with both set to go head to head in League One next season, after the Millers’ relegation from the Championship at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Harris only signed a new contract with Cardiff earlier this summer, which secured his future with the Bluebirds until the summer of 2023.

The Verdict

I do think this could be a decent move all-round.

For Harris, it gives him an opportunity to develop even further, with his future at Cardiff for the season after secured following his new contract.

As for either Rotherham or Fleetwood, they would be getting a striker who has shown promise in the Championship, and so could certainly make an impact in League One for one of those clubs.

Cardiff meanwhile, could be getting a much improved player when Harris returns next summer if he does now go out on loan, and with Kieffer Moore, James Collins, Lee Tomlin and Isaac Vassell on the books, they should be able to cope with Harris’ absence upfront.

Not sure if it does make sense for Harris to leave on loan. We only have two strikers at the club Moore and Collins. What happens if one of them is injured does the other one have to play every single game without being subsistuted as happened to Moore last season which left him in a state of exhaustion. If we sign that bloke from Aston Villa Davies then maybe yes but we can't really leave ourselves with two strikers for the season.

Maybe if Isak Davies or Rubén Cowill emerged as decent forward it be different but at the moment we need Harris.

I agree with you, makes NO Sense.

Hope not
Mark is an amazing player for us and we need to keep our youngsters within our 1st team squad. He has bags of potential and could very well be the player who we rely on throughout this season if the worst is to happen and our strikers pick up injuries.

Hope he stays as I want him to play more regularly in the 1st team whenever that is possible.

Good for Harris if he will be playing every week. But we are already short of forwards. Unless we have someone coming in we probably need him in the squad.

Got to keep him for me,I don’t get why we can’t get any loans in?and to me is this squad stronger then last season I don’t think so

It would be nice for manager to come out and say, I have to offload players, I’m not being given sufficient funds, and I have to say I have to say “I have quality in depth etc etc”

Surely another striker coming in? still short up front tho, if he thinks vassell will play many games, we are stuffed

On the other side of the coin he is clearly 3rd choice so I imagine his game time will be limited.A call back loan could be beneficial to all.Lots of games under his belt can only improve him.Frees up a spot to bring in someone in another position maybe?

This is a big concern. I’m not convinced that Collins is the answer, and if we loose Kiefer Moore we are really going to be stuck up shit creek.

Issac Vassell??? Laughable!

I have no problem with this loan. Think he needs to improve a lot not good enough to rely on for a season.

If the rumours of a number 9 coming in are true then it makes sense. But send him on loan until January with instant recall.

Moore was run into the ground last season when Harris was available. Not sure that would change if Moore or Collins got injured this season. This loan would only make sense if we have have a forward coming in.

Harris has been impressive in pre season. One of only a few players who stood out.

Bonkers to let him go in my opinion

This makes no sense, he can't be on huge money and we're just about to start a long season, 46 games plus cup games. We are bound to have injuries and suspensions, or players that simply need a rest for a week. He's proved to be a good squad member so why farm him out? Let them have Vassell. :o

depends on what the money saved will be used for.. same with Whyte ..there is a chance both could spend the season kicking their heels here while we could be bringing someone in that would be 1st team or a regular option to come on..
id love to both keep and strengthen with 2/3 coming in but dont we just dont seem to have the dough...

His is a move for harris as long as he plays....I suspect a number 9 is likely so we can afford a loan till Jan for harris

These rumours appear to be well founded and there may well be other 'surprises', too...

Hopefully, pre-season has exposed a few holes in the squad that can still be closed before the big KO...

Can't disagree with that, Paul

The club have certainly learned to keep the lid on things in recent years...

Ironically, it actually creates more debate on this Forum by default, although the likes of DaveSt and BigHillBlue take that to a weird psychedelic level... :laughing6:

I think it's a good move if it frees up funds for MM to bring in a better replacement. Harris is not quite up to regular championship standard. If offloading 3 or 4 fringe players to bring in 1 or 2 genuine quality players on loan has got to be the way forward.

To be fair, I think the manager has said that; albeit in cryptic terms...
