What is the latest Bluebirds team news?
Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy will be hoping a number of players come through fitness tests to get some important minutes under their belts this weekend.
Captain Sean Morrison is yet to play a single minute in pre-season as he builds up his return from a dislocated elbow. McCarthy said he hoped the skipper would feature against the Exiles this weekend, and he needs to if he has any chance of being fit for the season opener against Barnsley next Saturday.
Josh Murphy has played only once, a cameo appearance off the bench during the 4-0 loss to Southampton in midweek. He will hope for more game time.
Isaac Vassell missed the Exeter City and Southampton games after he felt his knee in training. The scans came back all clear, though, and he will likely get some minutes against Newport.
Whether Kieffer Moore and Rubin Colwill, both of whom have been training after testing positive for coronavirus, are fit enough to play in this final pre-season friendly is touch and go. Like Morrison, both need some game time if they are to be in with a shout for next Saturday's season curtain-raiser.
Leandro Bacuna is unlikely to feature given he was quarantining this week after testing positive for Covid, too.
New signing Ryan Wintle is suffering with a hip flexor issue and has also missed the last two games, so he is also a doubt.
Tom Sang is still nursing his toe after he underwent an operation on it, but it is hoped he will be fit enough to feature this Saturday lunchtime.
Gavin Whyte was missing against Southampton in midweek, throwing into doubt his future at the club. Whether he features against Newport will be interesting to see. (going out on loan).
Meanwhile, Kieron Evans has also missed all of pre-season so far. It was thought he would get a little run ahead of the new campaign, but he did his ankle ligaments blocking a shot in training.
He has started running again, though, and should be back within a couple of weeks.
