‘WORKED SO HARD’ – ADEN FLINT REACTS TO 27-Y/O’S DISPLAY FOR CARDIFF CITY IN PRE-SEASON WIN
By Billy Mulley

Cardiff City kickstarted their pre-season friendly schedule with a fine 5-0 victory over Bath City of the National League South.

Summer signing James Collins netted twice, whilst Oliver Denham, Isaac Vassell, and Isaak Davies also got themselves on the scoresheet.

Perhaps the standout moment in Cardiff’s win was Vassell’s tap-in to make it four just before half-time. The 27-year-old’s time with the South Walian club has been deeply disrupted by injuries.

The forward, who has made just three appearances since joining The Bluebirds ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, last goal for the club came during the second game of the 2019/20 campaign – a 90th-minute winner against his old club Luton Town.

Upon scoring, he was swiftly met by several of his teammates who celebrated and congratulated him in a very nice footballing moment.

Aden Flint, who grabbed the assist for Vassell’s goal, took to social media after the game to hail the forward: “No1 deserves it more than Vas.. had a tough couple years and worked so hard to get back!”

Mick McCarthy’s side host Cambridge United in their next pre-season friendly and Vassell will be hoping to make just as much of an impact against higher-quality opposition as he did during yesterday’s 5-0 thrashing.

The Verdict

If McCarthy can keep Vassell fully fit during pre-season then it will be like having a new signing.

His explosiveness and desire to get in behind makes him a different option to both James Collins and Kieffer Moore. It is also not the first time that Vassell and Collins have linked up in the same colours. The pair spent a few weeks together at Luton before the former completed a move to Birmingham City.

Vassell has missed so much football in the past few years, that his ultimate goal will be minutes over goal-scoring contributions, although both would be targeted.

Cardiff will be challenging for promotion once again and a fully fit Vassell would certainly give them another dimension in the attacking third and boost their chances of returning to the Premier League.

I hope he gets there - he's had a terrible time, but seems to have a good attitude.

Good luck to him.

I reckon between vassell and Collins playing up top we could have over 20 goals between the pair of them and another good season off keiffer we could be up there

Great moment for the lad it's so easy to criticise his period with us , if anyone has plated football I can guarantee he probably has been desperate to play and not be sat in a treatment table for two seasons, do feel for the lad as do the players who ran to him after his goal .

Unless we bring a bit of creativity in, I think its going to be a slog next season. Especially if we see the likes of Bacuna or Ralls playing in an advanced role.

He's a good player.

Remember being there when he scored a header on his debut - think it was his debut anyway.

The big issue is obviously his fitness. Hope he can stay fit, he'd then be an asset to us.

Who said anything about a world beater?
What a shit attitude you have to a city player who’s desperate to play and resurrect his career which shows with his team mates.
May work for him, may not but I wish him some luck.

Getting a bit carried away here after a pre season friendly! I hope you are right though although as Escott says above we are desperate for a few midfielders with something about them going forward or it's just guna be long ball to Moore.

I’ve absolutely no issue with you personal or otherwise.

Yes, of course we all curse out players from time to time and I’m certainly no exception.
Murphy, for example, is a player who I regularly criticise due to his lack of effort etc, etc. He’s well documented on here.

Vassell on the other hand deserves a chance to actually play and show what he’s got before criticism in my opinion.
It’s certainly not his fault he’s had these horrendous injuries and has not been able to play.

For me, if he gets his chance and turns out poor or lacks effort then I’ll certainly criticise him. But I can’t do that because of his injury.

Let’s all hope he turns his career around and can produce what we all want.
