In this case, as you are a bona fide member of that society, we bow to your experience and expertise the subject area![]()
Back in the real world, Drakeford is just being cautious at this point and not building up hopes like Boris is, as the intelligent information says that a third wave may occur late July or into early August, as I reported some weeks ago...
Figures are rising and whilst actual deaths may thankfully not be rising as before, there is a concern for the NHS and other emergency services, who are quite rightly preparing for the worst outcome...
Doesn't mean it will happen; but just the intelligent opinion that it 'might' is enough to be cautious at this point

Yet again it's the obsession with figures rising.
The only figures which are rising in any significant amount are the number of infections not the hospitalisations or deaths which surely are the only figures that matter now that "here in Wales" virtually everybody in the most vulnerable categories have received their two jabs of the "miracle" vaccine?
Drakeford has given no indication that he believes there will ever be an end to restrictions and a return to how things were previously. How long can you be "cautious" for? Until infections are zero? Until there is nobody in hospital in Wales with Covid?
I notice that on Wales Online the daily figures for those in hospital "due to covid" now include a number of people with "suspected" covid. Next thing they'll be saying that it's "suspected" that hundreds of thousands of people in Wales "may" have covid and therefore we must move cautiously for the next few decades until covid disappears completely.
Drakeford has made no indication at all of how Wales will ever be free from restrictions because he has no intention of relinquishing the power it is giving him over an entire population.

What is this "miracle" vaccine of which you speak? I'm going to presume you're being sarcastic about it being a "miracle" as nobody I've spoken to has called it that.
You & your ilk make it very difficult to have any sort of sensible discussion about things as one line of sarcasm tends to overshadow everything else that you say by being there to goad people into a response rather than discuss whatever the issue is.
A lot of what you're saying while sensible is lost on most people because of the perceived or meant dig.
Some of the people in Wales I've spoken to think he's doing okay but there have been some stupid rules & some think he's useless. Same happens here with our Governor who is facing a recall election because some people don't like what he's done during Covid. They don't care that it's going to cost the state $200 million and end up with the same result as long as they get to have a dig at him & have their 15 minutes of fame.

It sounds like an ideal situation for any politician - do what you like with no need to justify or being challenged for your actions and say that anybody with a different view to yours is simply chasing their 15 minutes of fame.

Not a fan of Drakeford and normally turn the tv to another channel when he's on, but would support the proposal above. Scientists appear to be linking the surge in infections in England to both the Delta variant and a number of the trials with crowds.
All the people waiting for operations/treatment for many other conditions, such as cancer, do not deserve to be sacrificed by allowing the NHS to be over-run by covid again. The BMA urged the Government this week to rethink its plan to relax all restrictions owing to the surge in COVID-19 infection rates, just one day ago.

The infections from trials were small in 1st lot of trials out of 53k spectators around 153 tested positive? Best will in world cancelling the lifting of restrictions is a recipe for disaster regarding compliance by people especially younger ones.... as for drakeford sorry he cannot make a decision to save his life he wants to wait until it's ok or boris gets something wrong then smugly tells us he was correct in his slowly slowly backwards stance? ( did u know ice rinks in England were opened in may but are still closed in wales along with other establishments) The best indicator is deaths from covid and they are ruining at 2 or 3 a week in wales and around 30 in England covid is here to stay in medium term need to live with it and get the majority of sensible people especially the young ones vaccinated to break cycle of infection..... otherwise we will be restricted until next spring as winter flu ect is expected to be bad this winter it doesn't bother me about lockdown until next year but sure vast majority of people wont tolerate it...
Ps was told there is enough space at ccs to hold all st holders if ground fully opened only if drakeford doesnt put in tighter restrictions than proposed by boris?. And that is a distinct possibility after reading WG statements today.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has blamed Euro 2020 for a rise in COVID-19 cases across Europe ahead of the start of the quarter-finals of the tournament.
WHO said the mixing of crowds at the football competition in host cities, as well as travelling and easing of social restrictions, had driven up the number of new cases by ten per cent.

You're right about the actual trials, and I should have said that the subsequent UK government decisions about fans either travelling to matches or going to local events watching the matches are believed to have caused the spike, not just in England, but across Europe, according to the WHO.

If us, Jacks, Newport and the rugby sides pledged to do that it would put huge reassure on WAG to allow big crowds. To the extent that we would likely never actually have to do it.

Totally agree with you skinflint.....the needs of the many outweigh the few....right. So why in the last 18 months have the National Covid Service totally ignored, with contempt I may add, the citizens of thier own country? They have looked after the few......not the MANY.
These are genuine people who have paid their hard earned into NI contributions, who have been kicked down the road. Why?
We will not see the price paid because the truth is too scary, but if you believe that people should be sidelined because of a media bias you are a sad person. Unfortunately we will all pay the price for this hysteria.

That's exactly what they're saying. They have said that restrictions must remain whilst covid is a threat to people's health.
Well that will always be the case and covid will never be gone forever.
Now looking for any excuse to drag out the restrictions - there "may" be lots of people needing hospitalisation, there "may" be new variants that the vaccine doesn't work against, there "may" be an increase in deaths etc etc
There "may" e a new virus that comes along in 2097 that's even worse than covid so best keep everything restricted "just in case".
Oh and no mention of any of the myriad negative effects on people's physical and mental well being as the result of lockdowns and restrictions because the WAG has not acknowledged that such things exist at any time during this whole pandemic.

They really saying don't want to lift it until covid is gone...
I can understand WAG's cautious approach to a large extent and anyone suffering from Covid-19 and Long Covid will attest; but if ever there was a time for a 'national' approach, it is now...
Not to do so will just confuse matters further and give some people the excuse they need to make up their own rules based on the actions of others around the UK
Personally, I believe it is time to move on and get this country, specifically the UK, in to economic recovery mode but this should be tempered with the maintaining of face masks in public spaces where unavoidable close contact is avoidable
Eradicating this disease is not going to happen, so intelligent management is the to go to Steps 2 and 3 of the management process and both control and isolate as best as we can
