Cardiff City target Wyke completes Wigan move

Wednesday 6th July 2021

Charlie Wyke has completed a move to Wigan Athletic on a free transfer.

The striker, who was reportedly a target for several clubs this summer, including Cardiff and Celtic, joins as a free agent after seeing out his contract at League One Sunderland earlier in the summer.

He has now signed a three-year deal with the Latics.

Speaking to Latics TV, he said: "I’m delighted. I’ve been speaking to the club for a few weeks and from the day I met the manager, I knew this was the club I wanted to play for.

"The way he (Leam Richardson) sold the club to me, and how he said he could get the best out of me, I thought this was the best place for my career going forward.

"The club ticks all the boxes in terms of how they want to play, the stadium and the fans. I can’t wait to get started now and hopefully it’s a long, successful spell for me."

31 goals last season , Sunderland wanted to keep him and quite a few other clubs interested including apparently Celtic. And he chooses Wigan! One point off being relegated to the lowest tier last season. Wierd.

He was born in Middlesbrough, so he cant get any closer to home than he was unless Warnock went in for him
