“ No club yet , but City released player remains optimistic

Sun Jul 04, 2021 5:39 pm

My view:

I could not believe we brought Jonny Willians in, his injury record is atrocious.
On this one the CCFC Committee were bang on not to let Big Mick sign Williams up again.

Williams was paid £50,000 by City for two months .

Jonny Williams opens up on next club hunt

Jonny Williams has said he is "relaxed" over his future after being released by Cardiff City this summer.

The Bluebirds signed the Wales international back in January on a short-term contract until the end of the season, but with the option to extend by another year.

It all looked to be pointing towards an extension, although the playmaker found chances hard to come by behind Harry Wilson and Rubin Colwill.

Williams revealed his surprise at being let go by City, believing that he was set to stay with the club, while he was away with Wales during Euro 2020.

Williams was told he was going to get a contract. but was later told by the hierarchy that he was being released.

It remains to be seen which teams will be interested in picking up the 27-year-old, who has struggled with injuries and been unable to string full seasons together.

So far there has been no approach by any club.

However, he remains calm about his situation and will hope to get the ball rolling over the next week or so.

"I didn't want to speak to my agent too much when I was away with the national team as I didn't want it to get in the way," he told the BBC.

"It's something I'll probably sit down over the next week and discuss.

"I'm quite relaxed. The main thing for me is that I want to be happy for the last few years wherever that may take me.

"Whether that's in the UK or abroad I'll wait and see and I'll probably speak to the Wales manager as well to see what the plans are moving forward."

He cost 20k on low wages. Didn't see an issue personally. It was cover, we've spent a wedge on cover before.

He cost us £50,000.

Total waste of money abd we say we are skint.

20-50k is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Weve waste much more on other players. Glatzel in one month (wages) cost about the whole transaction of him

If he'd not have been brought in people would have had a go at the club for not ensuring we had cover...

I totally agree, and with his injury record the the chance of him providing any cover were slim, at best. And yes, we have wasted more on other players, but we didn't know that at the outset and having had such a long period with very little income we, like most other clubs, do not have the same amount of money available. It's comparing apples and pears.

These players need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Would you expect your employer to pay you full wages for 12 - 18 months if you could not fulfill the role you were employed to do?

Out with the old and in with the new....the young vibrant types who may pick up injuries....but recover in 4 weeks, not 4 years aka Tomlin. :bluebird:

I would expect my employer to honour the contract that they wrote up and agreed to pay.

If you are "injured at work" then yes, you should be paid as per contract, it's their duty to find you a position that suits your "new needs" at same pay rate, that's in the real world though, we are talking sport here, where being injured at work, is par for the course! But you cannot terminate someone because they happened to get injured doing as contract stars ie play football.
Unless of course both parties agree to a settlement and mutual agreement to terminate contract. :old: :bluebird:

I hear you and agree with most of what you say. I accept that injuries are part and parcel.........but when guys are not deemed fit for purpose for 9-12 months or more we have the tight to question. :bluebird:

But why continue to waste money no matter how small.
The player is to unreliable due to his injuries.

A mistake to bring him in really.

If he had been on low wages I think it would have been a shrewd move as back-up.

But the fact he cost of 50k was just barmy. 50k for a back-up player who couldn't get in front of Colwill in the queue.

In all fairness to Mick he wasn't aware when he brought him in that Colwill was a better option off the bench but still, 50k.

Very true an employer has to honour any contract of employment.

However, I think the real point with regard to JW is why would you sign a contract in the first place with a player who has such an awful track record on injuries?

In which case the question should be aimed at the club. Both Tomlin and Williams’ injury/fitness record is well known and they’ve both had issues at basically every club they’ve played for. Despite all this, Cardiff still decided to offer them contracts knowing the risks. You can hardly blame either player for accepting a contract offered to them, but you can’t then complain that we should just stop paying them.

Indeed, you are correct in so far as a contract is a contract. My gripe is that in every other walk of life, the best companies out there will pay full pay on sickness for a maximum of 6 months.

It's amazing how many employees report back to work after 6 months and 1 day on said contract, I'm at the coal face, I see it time after time.

Yes, we understand that players pick up injuries through no fault of there own........and thus should be paid as per contract. I would suggest that the contracts handed out should have some sort of clause that specifies a minimum period of pitch time, anfd if this not fulfilled the gravy train dries up.

But hey ho....I am not an employment lawyer....just a meagre payroll clerk. :bluebird:

We desperately need creativity in the middle. Jonny doesn't bring that to the side. Terrible injury record as well. He'll probably drop back to league 1.

Pathetic.
