If, as you say, this was going on as late as the 90's by the Canadian government - an independent state within the Commonwealth-what the hell has it to do with the present day queen. And, as I understand, most of the schools were run by the Catholic church, their ire should be turned towards the Pope if thats the way they express their feelings. Just another excuse for the woke anarchists to use a terrible tragedy for their own ends.

Their ire has been turned towards the Catholic church. So far there’s been about a dozen churches burnt to the ground in Canada, another element of this situation which makes complaining a statue being defaced a bit silly.

As for defacing stautes of the queens. She was/is head of the Church of England. The CoE ran several of the residential schools in Canada where indigenous children were forced away from their families and assimilated into Canadian society with a multitude of horrific measures. The other aspect of which the monarchy are a part of this situation is of course it’s involvement in colonialism and the British Empire.

Of course this is just stupid, mindless vandalism and doesn’t achieve anything, one of the churches burnt down was Ukrainian Orthodox which had nothing to do with the residential schools. People are acting out of anger not logic.

We are probably on the same side on much of this but what gets my back up is the protestors were mainly white and therefore the direct descendants of those people who populated the country in the nineteenth century and who inflicted grave injustices on the native population. I am not saying they share any guilt for that but by the same token nor does the queen or the current British state.
