Liverpool's Harry Wilson attracting interest from Portuguese giants Benfica as hopes of Cardiff City return continue to fade

The Welsh club at the end of last season were offered Wilson for £10million after his season long loan finished.
But with Cardiff only looking at free transfers and more loan deals, manager Mick McCarthys hands were tied.

The Liverpool and Wales winger is in demand once again this summer, with a permanent move away from Anfield now the most likely option

Liverpool's Harry Wilson is wanted by Portuguese giants Benfica and a number of English clubs.

The 24-year-old, who is currently away with Wales at Euro 2020, looks destined to leave Anfield this summer, and has already managed to catch the eye of several clubs in the UK and abroad.

However, Benfica are currently leading the chase for the winger, having already held talks with the Reds over a possible move.

It's understood the player's representatives have even been sounded out over potential personal terms, although it's not yet clear whether the Portuguese giants have backed up their interest with a formal offer to Liverpool.

Wilson, who is believed to be interested in the move to Lisbon, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Cardiff City last season, netting seven goals and earning 12 assists for the Bluebirds, although he was unable to fire them into the top six as City missed out on the play-offs.

The move to the capital was largely made possible to due a collapsed transfer to Burnley, who were batted away after lodging a bid of around £11m last summer.

Welsh club Cardiff City could of snapped Wilson up for £10million after his loan deal finished but could not come up with the money.

Manager Mick McCarthy has had to look to the lower leagues for free agents and loan players from the higher leagues with his budget being virtually non existent.

Liverpool's valuation of the player is now currently around £15m, and it's understood they are unlikely to knock that down.

The Reds are also believed to be reluctant to loan the player out once again.

A return to Cardiff has now virtually been ruled out, despite chairman Mehmet Dalman making little secret of his willingness to bring Wilson back to the club.

The Bluebirds are not the only ones to have taken an interest, with West Bromwich Albion and Premier League newcomers Brentford also understood to be in the mix, although neither have yet firmed up their interest with a concrete approach.

Informal discussions have also been held with clubs in Spain and Germany, but Benfica, at this stage, appear to be at the front of the queue, although a move anywhere is unlikely to materialise until after the European Championships.

Wilson is currently focused on Wales' Euro 2020 last-16 clash with Denmark, which kicks off in Amsterdam on Saturday.

I wouldn't break the bank for him tbh ,he was too inconsistent last season some games he was non existent in ,use the 10 million to buy a few players

For once I agree with you Wez.

But there's no way we'll be spending £10m this summer, as well you know.

Free transfers are never free ,so we probably will spend 10 million overall but it definitely won't be on one player ,I can see a couple of players coming in for fees but also a few leaving for fees too

Would love him to be back at city but for £10m not a chance for a few reason
- Too much money
- Will come at too high a salary
- He does not deliver on a regular basis ( when he does great )
We simply do not have the money With the salary on transfer fee this would be a £20m deal

Harry Wilsons wages, I thought were reasonable for such a high quality player £15,000 a week.

We pay Fatty Tomlin £25,000 plus a week and look at all the others weve wasted money on and paid over £20,000 a week for, sadly its been said from day one NO money, same was last season and the season before, we sold before we bought and thankfully we are still a Championship club and not relegated.

Was the 15k what we paid him a week ? And if so do you know if that was his full salary at Liverpool because agree with you if 15k can ever be reasonable the. it is compared to Tomlin

Short sighted bargain basement club, he’s worth every penny of 10million, what is it worth to get out of this division and it’s premiership rewards.
Those who have said he doesn’t turn up some weeks are deluded - look at the supply talent that was around him last season Baccuna Rolls & Pack and he still managed to shine. And whilst under Harris he was stuck out wide. Needs a manager to play to his strengths and build a team around him not a manager shopping for Home Bargain players.
