Sources: Cardiff City agree to sign Wolves star Giles on a year long loan.

Giles has yet to play for the Wolves first team.

Cardiff have already signed four free agents released by their clubs, now they want a few loan players.

Cardiff City have agreed to sign Wolves midfielder Ryan Giles after a breakthrough in talks, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Welsh club have beaten off interest from multiple Championship clubs to win the race for the 21-year-old Englishman.

A Cardiff source has told Football Insider that the club have reached an agreement with Wolves over a season-long loan.

The deal could be announced in the coming days.

Football Insider revealed on 10th June that Cardiff were lining up a move for Giles who is contracted to Wolves until 2025.

Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy is a huge admirer of the young left-sided midfielder.

McCarthy’s Molineux links and proven track record of developing young players are understood to have given him an edge in the hunt for Giles’ signature.

Giles was named Academy Player of the Year at McCarthy’s old club Wolves in 2018.

He was in the youth system at Molineux during the 62-year-old’s six-year spell with the club between 20016 and 2012.

Giles spent the second half of the 2019-20 campaign on loan with Rotherham in the Championship.

He featured 27 times for the South Yorkshire side in total and missed just one match as they finished 23rd in the second-tier.

He made his senior debut on loan with AFC Telford in 2018 and has also spent time on loan with Shrewsbury Town in League One and Coventry City in the Championship.

Giles made his only senior Wolves appearance in a 2-2 FA Cup draw with Shrewsbury in January 2019.

“Star” ?

Is he a midfielder or another left-back? Some coverage says midfield, but the one below from "We love the football league" class him as another left-back :?: .

Coventry City and Rotherham United loanee from this past season Ryan Giles may well be ‘surplus to requirements’ at Wolves, as per a report by The Athletic.
Coventry City and Rotherham United both had him on loan last term in the Championship.

Giles, who is 21 years old, appears to be way down the pecking order at Wolves and may be allowed to depart this summer.

The left-back enjoyed plenty of game time in the second tier in this past campaign and is a decent options for clubs needing defensive reinforcements for next term.

That must mean someone from the midfield is about to leave.

Lets hope it is Bacuna or Pack - or both!

Bacuna is a right sided midfielder and Pack plays in the center, if any of our midfielders are leaving it will be Vaulks who has been linked with Norwich and needs to leave in order to get his place back in the Welsh squad.

Another smart signing by MM in my view. This guy has impressed where ever he has been. Played 19 games for Shrewsbury in league one, would have played more but they recalled him because of injuries at Wolves. Last season he played 40 odd games on loan at Coventry and Rotherham and fans of both clubs rated him highly. Can play as a winger or attacking wing back.

Impressed with the signings MM is making so far he seems to be assembling a good and young squad. Getting more excited about the forthcoming season.

Possibly to replace Bennett?

Looking forward too a full season under MM playing 3 at the back with wingbacks,

So far I’d go with

Phillips (think we will end up selling smithies this year and I’m confident we have a good keeper in Phillips)

Ng (rwb)

Morrison
Flint
Nelson

Giles (think he will go straight into the first team)

Sang (cm good engine and box to box)
Wintle (from what I’ve seen can pass and will be another box to box cm)

Tomlin (number 10, would be nice too think he’s sorted his attitude and his injuries are behind him)

Moore
Collins

Definitely a team that can challenge for top 6

Midfielder to replace a full back or are you talking about Ryan Giles who is a midfielder but can play as a wing back?

There isn't enough dynamism / flair in that team - I'm making the assumption Tomlin won't be fit and we have no one to replace him at this stage, apart from Colwill.

But you're right about the back 5.

Giles is a left back, left wing-back who can play winger, not a winger who can play left back.

He is a direct replacement for Bennett

Some say as he develops he will move forward due to his electric pace and crossing ability, but he has primarily been a wing-back.

I’ve got a feeling Pack will be playing as one of three centre backs. Flint and Morrison are great defenders at this level but neither are comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Pack has really good passing range and is good in the air.

We need to keep the ball a bit better and McCarthy was talking Pack up as a CB toward the end of the season.

Cardiff 'agree deal' for Wolves winger Giles

Monday 28th June 2021

Cardiff City have reportedly agreed a deal for 21-year-old Wolves ace Ryan Giles.

The Bluebirds are understood to be in the market for a winger and it appears the Wolves youngster is the man to fit the bill.

Football Insider claim the Bluebirds made a breakthrough in talks with Giles' parent club and have fought off a number of suitors to land the player's signature.

The season-long loan deal, which is reportedly due to be announced imminently, is said to have been secured owing to Mick McCarthy's relationship with Wolves and his track record of bringing through young players.

Giles would have been in Wolves' youth system when McCarthy was in charge at Molineux during his six-year stint there between 2006-2012.

He enjoyed loan spells in the Championship last term with Coventry City and Rotherham United.

Giles would become Cardiff's 5th signing, first loan signing, plus 4 free signings of this window.

Or he could be a back up for Gareth Bale ;)

Annis i posted earlier on the thread that he was a left midfield but it was pointed out to me that he is a left back who can play as a wingback left midfield or winger. I have looked at the Wolves official site and he down on their site as a defender, so I guess he is to replace Bennett as a fullback/wingback! :ayatollah:

In all fairness Igovernor he is widely reported as being a midfielder, although never played regularly in midfield at senior level - for Coventry or Rotherham or the one appearance for Wolves.

I did look at his youth appearances and it does seem he played further forward.

So yeah I also think he is a replacement for Bennett.

Not sure if he signed a new contract for Barnsley but anyway the Barnsley manager has gone to WBA and its reported he wants to sign Mowatt. Can't see anyway he will sign for us is WBA wants him. Know he is a good player but I thought he looked indifferent in the two playoff matches this season.
