I'd be gobsmacked if a sale was sanctioned for that amount and would prove that the people in charge have absolutely no clue about football and transfer fees

For that amount of money it would be pointless selling him, it's not as though he has been a disaster of a signing ,he has had glimpses of a being good player

Birds coming home to roost ... but take 450k + wages off books must be at least 1m in pot for club? Should it be more yes and a bad deal yes but unfortunately the market is totally distorted by covid and clubs struggling to sell anyone for money now so take it move on as all clubs do... plus he as not enhanced his value that's for sure so if expecting 3m+ for him people are being unrealistic.

Shocking business and unbelievable loss.

But a big wage earner of the wages.

Not sure the club can really be blamed that much, is it even avoidable making losses on players unless they were hidden gems/teenagers when they were signed?
A few years back it would’ve been bad business but a comparative replacement in the current climate isn’t going to cost anywhere near 5mil. Clubs have to have much tighter purse strings these days. He was unlikely to play so a we’ve got a fee and chunk of wages freed up for new signings, signings whose value will have been slashed compared to a few years ago.

What ever way you say it or twist it, the truth is we can’t afford losses like that.

No one knows what the fee is as it is undisclosed, the figure bandied about is what papers are guessing at.

But what’s the alternative? If we wait for a club to offer 5mil then we’d get zero money and be paying his wages for another year. I know what I’d consider better business.
The truth is every club will be making losses on first team players they signed in the past few seasons. We’ll sell someone for less than we got them but then sign players for cheaper than the other club paid. Outside of the PL there’ll be a massive drop in spending.

Many fans will say it’s a waste of £5m but it’s not truly the case. I remember listening to Simon Jordan on Talk Sport and he was explaining how a players value at both purchase and sale works from the aspect of the club.

If a player signs for, let’s say, £5m on a 4 year deal, that value is placed as an asset on the balance sheet of the club. That asset depreciates by 1/48th each month (the 4 years).

Glatzel was with us for 2 years, so the ‘loss’ (using the example above) would have actually been £2.5m (24/48ths), and if we got £500k for him, then the net ‘loss’ is £2m. That’s assuming we paid £5m for him up front without stepped payments/bonus’ which I doubt we did.

Don’t get me wrong, a loss on any player is a bad thing, but it’s not as large as some would make out.

Plus, having checked, he only signed a 3 year deal (36months) which means his ‘true’ value would have only been around £1.6m, last year of his contract, so to recoup £500k in that example isn’t too bad.

It's all well and good saying it's a bad deal or a terrible loss but holding onto him is just making things worse.

We recouped what we could and you then weigh it up against the increased value of Keifer Moore.

Swings and roundabouts.

Everyone saying bad deal but can anyon honestly say hes worth 2 or 3m even? Signing footballers is like playing stock market you win you lose we've won on some players lost probably a lot more. But hey ho thats life....
Ps wonder how much we've saved getting in players without a fee?

Spot on.
Every team makes losses like this to a greater or lesser degree.

Off the top of my head I remember Pogba going from Man Utd to Juventus for free or at least a nominal compensation fee. They bought him back for 90+ million.

Its not great for us but its all relative.

But gives the clowns on Fakebook something to beat the club about.
