EFL clubs circle as Sunderland have £1m bid rejected by Wolves

League one club Sunderland have seen a £1million bid for Wolves defender Dion Sanderson rejected with a number of Championship clubs said to be monitoring the defender.

Sanderson shot into the public's consciousness during an impressive first loan stint away from Wolves with Cardiff City during the Bluebirds' remarkable run to the play-offs in the 2019/20 season.

Cardiff in fact explored the option of bringing the player back on loan last term, however they instead opted for Jordi Osei-Tutu, the Arsenal youngster.

The Welsh club were interested again in Sanderson for next season, but £1million is way out of their price league as manager McCarthy has been told he can only sign free agents and loan players.

Wolves product Sanderson eventually went off to Sunderland in League One and was one of their standout players in League One.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Sunderland want him permanently and have tabled a bid of around £1m for the player. It is claimed Wolves want double that.

It is said that the Bluebirds, Birmingham City, Stoke City, Luton Town and Millwall all hold an interest in Sanderson's situation and are monitoring developments.

Given Cardiff have just brought in Mark McGuinness from Arsenal and are now well stocked at right back following the addition of Perry Ng in January and the emergence of Tom Sang, who finished the season strongly in that position, it appears unlikely the Welsh capital city club will press ahead with any interest now.

Great player and did well for us... and thought highly at Sunderland.

But not what we need as we signed Ng
