Newcastle, Fulham and Cardiff all linked with Tottenham defender

Cardiff City have been named among a number of clubs interested in landing Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The Bluebirds have already signed James Collins from Luton Town on a free transfer, however they are expected to be busy in the coming weeks and months.

Now, American outlet SBI Soccer reporter Larry Henry Jr claims Cardiff, along with Fulham, Newcastle and New York Red Bulls are all interested in signing the USA international defender.

Carter-Vickers, a former Swansea City loanee, of course, impressed with his performances on loan at Bournemouth last season and is likely to seek a permanent home in this transfer window, having yet to play a Premier League match for Spurs despite joining the club at 11 years of age.

Now 23, with one more year left to run on his contract in north London, he is expected to find a new club in the hope of kicking his career on.

Henry Jr goes on to state that Newcastle appear in pole position for the defender, but Spurs are hoping to recoup as much as £10m for him.

If that is the case, it will certainly price Cardiff out of the running. The Bluebirds have Aden Flint, Sean Morrison, Curtis Nelson and Ciaron Brown all in situ, while Marlon Pack has also been deployed at the back, too, so forking such a huge sum on another defender does appear highly unlikely.

If the option of a loan move was available, that might be the only way Cardiff would even enter the frame.
